Barely four months have passed since his ascension and UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak is already facing a potential rebellion from the Tory MPs over the post-Brexit arrangements.

According to Guardian, 100 MPs have expressed their disapproval of a deal with the European Union to help break the post-Brexit deadlock in Northern Ireland.

Hardline Brexit supporters within the Conservative party are reportedly suspicious of concessions made by the UK.

It comes following an intervention from his predecessor Boris Johnson who was against Sunak's plans of abandoning the Northern Ireland Protocol Bill that grants powers to ministers to ignore EU rules and rip up parts of the protocol.

"His general thinking is that it would be a great mistake to drop the Northern Ireland Protocol Bill," a source close to Johnson told Sky News.

The source said that if there is a deal then the bill introduced by Johnson when he was PM would become redundant.

&nbsp;"If we can find a way to satisfactorily resolve the issues with the protocol, then you wouldn't need the bill," the official was quoted as saying. "But we haven't resolved them yet."

According to reports, the UK leader is expected to meet European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen on the sidelines of the Munich Security Conference on Saturday.

Both are likely to discuss the final contours of an agreement to replace the current trading arrangements. He is also likely to meet the leaders of France and Germany.

Leader of the Democratic Unionist party Jeffrey Donaldson has said that Sunak’s proposal “currently falls short of what would be acceptable” to the party, adding that it failed to adhere to its longstanding red lines.

What is Northern Ireland Protocol Bill?

The Northern Ireland Protocol is a trading deal&nbsp;negotiated during Brexit talks. It allows goods to be transported across the Irish border without the need for checks.

Before Brexit, it was easy to transport goods across this border because both sides followed the same EU rules. After the UK left, special trading arrangements were needed because Northern Ireland has a land border with the Republic of Ireland, which is part of the EU.

There have been disagreements over the protocol, crippling the functioning of the Northern Ireland Assembly.

The Adani Group has categorically denied Hindenburg’s accusations, calling them a "malicious combination of selective misinformation and stale, baseless and discredited allegations."

Meanwhile, the company’s website notes that&nbsp;Elara Capital Plc was founded in 2002 primarily as a capital markets business, raising funds for Indian corporates through "GDR’s (global depository receipt), FCCB’s (foreign currency convertible bond)&nbsp;and the London AIM market (London stock exchange sub-market).

It adds: "Since its first GDR issue in 2003, Elara has raised funds for several Indian corporates. Since then, the group has diversified further into corporate advisory, asset management, broking, mergers and acquisitions and private equity.

"Elara has not only diversified the product range, it also has diversified into other emerging markets through its fully licensed offices in New York, Singapore, Mumbai, Ahmedabad and London."

Kremlin denied the accusations, terming Johnson a liar.&nbsp;

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters, "What Mr Johnson said is not true. More precisely it's a lie... There were no missile threats."&nbsp;

While speaking to BBC for a documentary, Johnson alleged that the Russian president had asked him about the prospects of Ukraine joining NATO. Boris claimed he said that it would not be "for the foreseeable future".&nbsp;

"It's a dead-end situation: it leads to significant escalation, it leads to NATO countries more and more becoming directly involved in the conflict - but it doesn't have the potential to change the course of events and will not do so," he said.&nbsp;

The threat from Putin came in a very long call with Johnson in February when Russia was amassing tens of thousands of its troops along Ukraine's borders and world leaders were trying to find a common ground to dissuade any attempt by Moscow to invade Ukraine.&nbsp;

In the latest documentary which is set to be broadcasted on BBC 2 on 30 January, Johnson said, "He threatened me at one point, and he said, 'Boris, I don't want to hurt you but, with a missile, it would only take a minute' or something like that..."&nbsp;

However, the then PM added, "I think from the very relaxed tone that he was taking, the sort of air of detachment that he seemed to have, he was just playing along with my attempts to get him to negotiate." One thing is for sure. No one will ever find out if Putin genuinely meant what he said during the "most extraordinary call."

The latest documentary shed a light on Putin's conversations with world leaders. It covers everything from the Crimea invasion in 2014 to the invasion of Ukraine.&nbsp;As for Johnson, he warned Putin of sanctions and in a bid to avoid any conflict clarified to the Russian President that Ukraine will not join the NATO trans-Atlantic alliance &nbsp;"for the foreseeable future".

Johnson&nbsp;could have apprehensions over Putin's bold missile attack remarks, courtesy to the earlier poisoning of Sergei Skripal, a former Russian military officer and double agent for the British intelligence agencies, and his daughter, Yulia Skripal. Boris Johnson's unannounced visit to Ukraine comes just days after he urged allies to double down on sending military equipment to Ukraine and speed up an end to the war with Russia.&nbsp;

"There is nothing to be lost by doubling down on the material, and equipment that we are sending to Ukraine and there is nothing to fear in escalation, and the best thing for the world is to get this thing done, and done fast," the former British Prime Minister said on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos on Thursday, Reuters reported.&nbsp;

"That is the cheapest solution. It's the solution that has the lowest cost in human life and suffering," he added. A day earlier, Boris Johnson was named an honorary citizen of Kyiv by mayor Vitali Klitschko in Davos.

When the UK was facing one of its tough crises during the COVID-19 outbreak, the then prime minister Boris Johnson, who was part of the infamous partygate saga, had reportedly joked about being at “the most unsocially distanced party in the UK right now”, an explosive new podcast by the ITV has revealed.

The claims came to the fore during the podcast aired titled ‘Partygate: The Inside Story’, which delves into Johnson’s long-held assertion that he was unaware rules had been broken within Number 10 during the lockdown.

It reports that a source said, “I was working late … I heard the prime minister speaking and that’s when I heard the quote: ‘This is the most unsocially distanced party in the UK right now’ and everyone was laughing about it.”

According to ITV, the whistleblowers told them that the staff shredded key documents and evidence about parties before senior bureaucrat Sue Gray was to probe the matter.

“There was a sense, and an implication, that we should start deleting evidence before there is an investigation. And a lot of people started shredding things. Any proof of the events started disappearing,” they said.

The podcast further claims, quoting a senior Cabinet official, that Gray’s team probed half of the parties that occurred in the Downing Street.

The revelations come at a time when Johnson is due to appear before MPs on the Commons privileges committee about whether he misled the lawmakers about his awareness of the partygate. Inquiry hearings are expected to begin in February.

The partygate scandal was one of the major blots of Johnson’s political carrier, who had to eventually go after much hue and cry from the public following its revelation.

The Metropolitan Police had even fined the former PM for attending the parties while social distancing restrictions were in place.

Barely a month after being elected, UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak is already facing rebellion spearheaded by his predecessors Boris Johnson and Liz Truss.&nbsp;The former prime ministers are calling out Sunak over his government's controversial tax raises and refusal to allow new onshore wind projects in England.

Both, Johnson and Truss, want the ban, which has been in place since 2014, to be lifted. Notably, when Johnson was in office, he did not even attempt to reverse the longstanding decision.

According to the Guardian, Johnson and Truss are among the 20 Tory members who have signed an amendment to Levelling Up and Regeneration Bill put tabled by Conservative MP Simon Clarke.

The amendment seeks to mandate the government to change planning rules within six months to allow new projects.

Taking to Twitter, Clarke welcomed the support from the former prime ministers,

"Delighted to have the backing of Boris Johnson and Liz Truss, together with MPs from right across the Conservative Party, for my amendment to allow onshore wind where (and only where) there is community consent.”

"A pro growth, pro green policy at a time when we need both," he added.

The ban on onshore windmills was implemented by David Cameron in 2015. When Truss came to power, she had pledged to change the rules, but she was ousted before she could take a decision.

The latest controversy comes against the backdrop of growing calls within Britain to be self-sufficient in energy since Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

During the Tory leadership campaign, which Truss won, Sunak said that he was devising an “energy sovereignty strategy”, which maintained the ban on new onshore wind. The Labour party had slammed his move, accusing him of “economic illiteracy”.

Businessman and former mayor of New York, Michael&nbsp;Bloomberg was forced to apologise at a major business event in Singapore for statements made by his friend and former UK prime minister Boris Johnson criticising China.&nbsp;

Johnson was invited as the guest speaker at the Bloomberg New Economy Forum in Singapore, held earlier this week. During his speech, Johnson described China as a&nbsp;“coercive autocracy”, much to the apathy of Asian businessmen and diplomats gathered.&nbsp;

Since Johnson was invited by Bloomberg to the forum, the latter had to bear the brunt of&nbsp;attendees feeling insulted and offended by the Tory leader's remarks.&nbsp;

Former UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson was paid £276,130 plus expenses by Australian-American businessman and investor, Rupert Murdoch, for a speech to insurance agents in the United States. An entry in Johnson’s register of interests, which all MPs are required to update theirs every 28 days, shows he travelled to Montana for a business meeting on 11-12 October.

The register revealed that Murdoch covered Johnson’s air travel expenses inside the US and provided him and two members of staff with “accommodation and hospitality." This hospitality was of an estimated value of £11,559. However, there was no further details about who Johnson met while in Montana. &nbsp;

Johnson addressed the Council of Insurance Agents and Brokers (CIAB) conference in Colorado Springs on 14 October for 30 minutes. Later, he also held engagements in “fireside chat” for 45 minutes. UK PM Sunak takes a 'screeching U-turn,' announces he will attend COP27 after all

UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak might attend the COP27 Summit in Egypt days after his refusal citing “domestic issues”.

According to reports, Sunak is open to the possibility of travelling to Cairo to attend the all-important climate change conference on November 6 if his domestic schedules allow him to.

&nbsp;“Going depends on progress,” one of Sunak’s aides told the Financial Times, adding that the government was focused on dealing with the economic crisis and the autumn statement due on November 17.

The major U-turn came a day after UK media reported that former PM Boris Johnson&nbsp;expressed his intention to attend the climate conference.

Johnson’s participation is being perceived as an attempt to undermine Sunak’s leadership and at the same time bolster his image just a week after he withdrew his nomination for the Tory leadership race.

Last week, Downing Street informed that Sunak won’t be able to attend the UN conference due to “pressing domestic concerns”.

The row over who is going to represent the UK at the conference laid bare open after King Charles was advised not to travel to the northern African country.

Speaking to Sunday Times, Sharma, who was recently demoted from the cabinet, said he was "pretty disappointed" with Sunak, saying his attendance would signal the UK's "renewed commitment on this issue" and "allow for engagement with other world leaders".

British newspaper Observer has reported, citing sources, that Johnson intends to travel to Cairo to express solidarity with the battle against the climate crisis.

Johnson’s participation is being viewed as an attempt to undermine Sunak’s leadership and at the same time bolster his image just a week after he withdrew his nomination for the Tory leadership race.

A cabinet office spokesperson gave an ambivalent response when asked about Johnson’s likely attendance at the COP 27.

“The government is absolutely committed to supporting COP27 and leading international action to tackle climate change and protect nature,” the spokesperson told the Guardian.

“The UK will be fully represented by senior ministers, including the foreign, business and environment secretaries, as well as COP president Alok Sharma. They will be working to ensure that countries continue to make progress on the ground-breaking commitments made at COP26 in Glasgow.”

According to the news outlet, COP26 President Alok Sharma also lost the right to attend the Cabinet meetings during the reshuffle this week.

“I’m pretty disappointed that the prime minister is not going. I understand that he’s got a huge in tray of domestic issues that he has to deal with,” Sharma The Times.

“But I would say that going to COP27 would allow for engagement with other world leaders. And I think it does send a signal, if the Prime Minister was to go, about our renewed commitment on this issue.”

On Monday, Penny Mordaunt dropped out of the race, paving the way for Sunak to become the first non-white and Indian-origin PM of the country.

The former chancellor had secured the backing of over half the 357 Tory MPs – way above the 100 minimum required to make the shortlist.&nbsp;

Sir Graham Brady, chair of the influential 1922 Committee of backbench MPs, announced in the Parliament complex that he had received only one nomination and therefore Sunak is the winner of the Conservative leadership contest.

Sunak is expected to take office on Tuesday after being formally appointed by King Charles III.

Outgoing PM Truss will be chairing her final cabinet meeting at 9 am (local time) and then will make a statement outside No 10 before travelling to Buckingham Palace for her final audience with the King.

After this, Sunak will visit the monarch, who will ask the former to form the government.

He will then travel to Downing Street to make a statement at about 11.35 am, before entering his official residence, 10 Downing Street.
