<p>Taking to X on Monday (September 23), owner Elon Musk said, “High time this happened. The block function will block that account from engaging with, but not block seeing, public post.”</p>

<p>At present, “You’re blocked” message pops up on X when one tries to view the profile image of the account on which the user has been blocked.</p>

<p>The blocking option also prevents users from seeing the account's replies, media, followers, and following list.</p>

<p>Musk has always expressed his dislike of the block button and said that it “makes no sense” and that “it needs to be deprecated in favour of a stronger form of mute.”&nbsp;</p>

<p>He had earlier&nbsp;said that he would take away the option of blocking people on the platform completely and would only give the option to block direct messages.</p>

<p>With the introduction of a new feature, X users will still be able to block accounts but the blocked users will still be able to view new posts and other user data.</p>
