Former Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi and Rashtriya Janata Dal's Tej Pratap Yadav courted controversy on Sunday (May 5) for their remarks calling Jammu and Kashmir's Poonch attack "pre-planned".

Channi accused the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of plotting such stunts in order to win the elections.

"This is stuntbaazi. And not the (terror) attacks. When elections come, such stunts are done to make the BJP win. These are pre-planned attacks, there is no truth in them...," alleged the Congress leader while campaigning in Jalandhar, the seat from where he is contesting the polls.

"To kill people and to play with their bodies....BJP knows it...," he claimed.

He further went on to draw a parallel between the Poonch and the Pulwama attack&nbsp;that took place in 2019.

"These attacks are not really happening but just meant to benefit the Bharatiya Janata Party... Whenever elections take place, such stunts are played – like it happened last time," he added in an apparent reference to the Pulwama incident.

<h2>Anurag Thakur slams Congress over remarks</h2>

Union Minister Anurag Thakur slammed Channi over his "ridiculous" remarks and demanded an apology from the grand old party.

"I have a question for Congress: Were the 1962, 1965, and 1971 wars done for winning elections? On such a ridiculous statement, Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi should apologise...They question the ability of our forces...How low will Congress stoop? Will Congress insult our Bravehearts for the sake of winning elections?" Thakur said.

Punjab leader Sunil Jakhar, who recently quit Congress and joined BJP, also lashed out at the former Punjab CM, calling his remarks "ghastly."

"Ghastly statement by CWC member Channi belittling the valour of our brave soldiers is no less a crime and an insult to the nation. Channi's shameful statement on the attack on our Air Force personnel in Poonch calling their valour a stunt shows the bankruptcy and frustration of Channi. The nation will not forgive him. <h2>Lovely wrote letter to Kharge</h2>

Lovely, who stepped down from the post of the Delhi Congress chief on April 28, wrote a letter to Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge citing that he was against the alliance between Congress and the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in Delhi.&nbsp;

"The Delhi Congress unit was against an alliance with a party which was formed on the sole basis of levelling false, fabricated and malafide corruption charges against the Congress party. Despite that, the party made a decision to ally with the AAP in Delhi...," Arvinder Singh Lovely wrote in his resignation letter.

He further underlined that the remarks made by the North-East Delhi candidate Kanhaiya Kumar where he made "factually incorrect statements" and falsely praised Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, did not go well with the local party unit.

"Such ill-thought and factually incorrect statements have not gone down well with the local party unit since, the local party workers had an inherent understanding that the alliance was not done in appreciation of AAP's false propaganda of the development of Delhi and was in fact, a "compromise&nbsp;to improve the chances of victory for the party as part of the National Alliance," he said.

Voting for all the seven Lok Sabha constituencies in Delhi is scheduled to take place on May 25, which is the sixth phase of the ongoing general elections.

The results of the polls will be announced on June 4.

India Elections 2024: Delhi Congress former president Arvinder Singh Lovely joins BJP

The last day of campaigning before the third round of Elections was a busy one for Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Modi began his schedule in Uttar Pradesh with a public rally at Ayodhya. He hit out at the Gandhi family claiming they think Amethi and Raibareli are their inheritance. Indian elections 2024: Modi to campaign in Ayodhya ahead of Phase 3

Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray on Friday (May 3) lashed out at the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), stating that the party's Hindutva is ‘gaumutradhari’ (regressive), while his party's Hindutva is ‘reformist’.

Uddhav Thackeray's comment comes after union home minister Amit Shah attacked the Shiv Sena (UBT) over its Hindutva ideology.

“BJP's Hindutva is gaumutradhari. Our Hindutva is reformist…When the INDIA alliance comes to power, I will ensure the lost glory of Maharashtra is reclaimed,” Thackeray said during an election rally in Kankavali in Ratnagiri-Sindhudurg district.

Thackeray also accused the Centre of looting Maharashtra.&nbsp;

On Friday (May 3), Amit Shah slammed Thackeray, questioning if he can mention freedom fighter and Hindutva ideologue, V D Savarkar in his speeches.

“What are you as Shiv Sena chief if you are ashamed of taking Savarkar's name. You are running a fake Shiv Sena. The real Shiv Sena is with Eknath Shinde,” Shah said.

Shah also hit out at Uddhav Thackeray&nbsp;over Balashaheb Thackeray's legacy.

“You do not get Balasaheb's (Shiv Sena founder Bal Thackeray) legacy this way. You may be his son, but his legacy is with Narayan Rane, Eknath Shinde and Raj Thackeray. You have abandoned his legacy," he said.

It is worth mentioning, in 2019 Lok Sabha election, BJP won 23 seats, while its ally Shiv Sena won 18 seats.

Lok Sabha elections: Congress' Sucharita Mohanty returns ticket due to lack of funding

The Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP), which is eyeing its third consecutive victory in the Lok Sabha elections, announced Karan Bhushan Singh as its pick for the Kaiserganj seat on Thursday (May 2). Karan is the son of&nbsp;Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, the former Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) Chief and sitting MP from Kaiserganj.

Who is Karan Bhushan Singh, BJP's pick for Kaiserganj Lok Sabha constituency?

Two most renowned active Indian wrestlers, Sakshi Malik and Bajrang Punia, have slammed the ruling government party for not taking care of women’s safety in this country.

Two most renowned active Indian wrestlers, Sakshi Malik and Bajrang Punia, have slammed the ruling government party for not taking care of women’s safety in this country. Such remarks have come after Brij Bhushan Singh’s son, Karan Bhushan Singh, was named the BJP candidate for the Kaiserganj seat in Uttar Pradesh. Brij Bhushan Singh - a sitting MP from Kaiserganj, is accused of sexually assaulting several women wrestlers during his time as the chief of the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI). Although he remains suspended from his position at WFI since the Sports Ministry began an investigation into the matter, Bajrang – who led the protest against him, said the power would ultimately remain with the father, who is roaming around freely despite countless accusations levelled against him. Bajrang continued by saying that by appointing Karan Bhushan Singh, BJP showed that dynastic politics is also prevalent in the ruling party. ALSO READ: ICC bans West Indies’ batter Devon Smith for five years over corruption charges Talking to the Indian Express, Bajrang said, “I don’t know why the government is so scared of Brij Bhushan. His son getting the ticket also shows the ‘parivarvad’ in the BJP. The BJP criticises other parties saying ‘parivarvad’ exists, but they are no different.” Meanwhile, taking to the social media website X, Sakshi Malik wrote that the "daughters of this country have lost," adding the protesting wrestlers put their careers on the line just for the sake of justice, which they are yet to get. She continued saying that other than arresting the accused, Brij Bhushan Singh, the BJP gave his son the ticket, shattering millions of aspirations. “Daughters of the country have lost, Brij Bhushan won. We all put our careers on the line, we slept on streets in the rain and heat. Brij Bhushan hasn’t been arrested till today. “We are not asking for anything but justice. Leave aside arrest, by giving an election ticket to his son, they have shattered the aspirations of the country’s millions of daughters. Is the country’s government so powerless in front of one man that the ticket had to be given to only one family? “(They want votes in Prabhu Shri Ram’s name, what about the path he showed?),” Sakshi wrote on X, a post which is now either deleted or made private. Shameful that Govt is supporting such a person Bajrang spoke against this move by the BJP, saying that how could the ruling party support a person who has several criminal cases lodged against him and has been sexually harassing women wrestlers? “It is shameful that the government is supporting a person who is sexually harassing the sister and daughters (women wrestlers) of this country. When it comes to the ticket for Lok Sabha elections, the person who has been molesting women and a person against whom there are already so many criminal cases lodged…they are giving his son the ticket. “Giving a ticket to the son is equal to giving a ticket to the father; the power will be with the father. The son is just a dummy. There can’t be anything worse than this. Sexual harassment of women will continue at this rate,” he said.

Janata Dal (Secular) (JD(S)) supremo HD Kumaraswamy on Monday (Apr 29) announced that the party has decided to suspend his nephew Prajwal Revanna over allegations of sexual abuse.

Revanna is the BJP-JD(S) alliance candidate for the Lok Sabha polls from the Hassan constituency, which went to the polls on Friday (Apr 26).

"A decision was already made. Tomorrow it is to be recommended at the core committee meeting in Hubballi. Because he (Prajwal) is a Member of Parliament, it has to be done from Delhi. So I had requested Deve Gowda (JD(S) National President and former PM). Neither he (Gowda) nor I were aware of this issue," Kumaraswamy claimed.

"Some issues that have come out, on the basis of that it has been decided yesterday itself to suspend (him). But many were in a hurry," the JD(S) state head said while talking to reporters.

Thirty-three-year-old Prajwal is HD Revanna's son and former PM and JD(S) patriarch HD Deve Gowda's grandson.

Recently,&nbsp;video clips allegedly showing Prajwal Revanna sexually abusing several women started doing rounds in Hassan.

Recently, video clips allegedly showing Prajwal Revanna sexually abusing several women started doing rounds in Hassan. The government formed a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to investigate the alleged sex scandal involving the Hassan MP. "So far, there are no direct allegations against Prajwal Revanna. <h2>Delhi Police file FIR in Amit Shah's 'doctored video case</h2>

This came after the Delhi Police's Special Cell registered an FIR over a tampered video of Union Home Minister Amit Shah after the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) claimed that the footage showing Shah making vows to scrap all reservations for Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes was false.

"We received a complaint regarding the edited video of the Home Minister. Two complaints were received by police, one from the BJP and another from the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA). Following this, the Delhi Police Special Cell Cyber Wing's IFSO unit filed an FIR," a source said.

The BJP had earlier alleged that the original footage of Shah had him talk about the removal of a 4 per cent "unconstitutional" reservation for Muslims in Telangana.

However, the saffron party said that the footage, which was from a recent election rally, was edited in a manner where it indicated that the Union Home Minister was advocating the move to scrap reservations for backward groups.

A case has been registered under Sections 153, 153A, 465, 469, 171G of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and section 66C of the Information Technology (IT) Act and a probe has been initiated, said the sources as per Indian news agencies.

"The video seems to be doctored, spreading misleading information with the intention of creating disharmony among communities which is likely to affect public tranquillity and public order issues. It is requested to kindly take necessary legal action as per the provisions of law," the ministry said, as per the FIR, reported IANS.

The Congress filed a complaint against Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant, along with other BJP leaders on Friday (Apr 26) alleging that the saffron party spread "misinformation" about its South Goa candidate Viriato Fernandes.

Goa Congress President Amit Patkar filed a three-page complaint before Chief Electoral Officer Ramesh Verma.

"By the present complaint, we wish to bring to your kind notice a serious violation of the Model Code of Conduct by the members of the Bharatiya Janta Party and request immediate action in respect of the same. As you are aware Capt. Viriato Fernandes is our candidate for the General Election to the Lok Sabha 02 - South Goa parliamentary constituency," the Goa Pradesh Congress Committee stated.

Certain persons belonging to the Bharatiya Janta Party are deliberately spreading mis- misinformation in the context of the speech made by our candidate. The said persons are attempting to twist and misinterpret the speech of our candidate to suggest that our candidate has disrespected the Constitution and/or to suggest that our candidate does not have respect for our Constitution," the complaint added.

The letter further stated that Fernandes served in the armed forces during the Kargil war and has the highest respect for the Constitution.

"The speech of our candidate is sought to be twisted and read out of context, without even attempting to understand the context in which it was made i.e. in the context of demand for dual citizenship. The video of the speech which is sought to be misinterpreted and used for spreading of misinformation is in the public domain and if required we will furnish a copy of the same," it stated.

Patkar further accused PM Modi of tossing Fernandes' speech as discourteous towards the Constitution while he was addressing a rally in Chhattisgarh.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday (Apr 21) took a swipe at the Congress stating that the grand old party, which has in the past won 400 seats, is at present not even in a condition to contest from 300 seats in the Lok Sabha polls.

He further called the party a "symbol of instability."

While addressing a public rally in Rajasthan's Jalore, PM Modi said that the people of the country are punishing the Congress for its "sins".

"You have given your blessings to BJP every time, this time too, the people of Jalore-Sirohi are saying 'Phir ek baar Modi sarkar'. In the first phase of polling for the Lok Sabha elections, half of Rajasthan has taught a good lesson to the Congress party. The patriotic people of Rajasthan know that Congress couldn't provide a strong government in the Centre. Their government used to run on remote control. The country does not want the conditions that existed before 2014 to return again," the Indian prime minister said.

He then, further making an apparent reference to Sonia Gandhi, said that some opposition leaders left the Lok Sabha and moved to the Rajya Sabha as they had no courage to contest elections.

"The Congress party itself is responsible for the condition it has reached today. Earlier, Rajasthan sent former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to Rajya Sabha, and now you have another leader of Congress in Rajya Sabha (Sonia Gandhi). People who knew that they could not win ran away from the race and reached Rajya Sabha from Rajasthan. Congress hollowed the country by spreading the termites of 'parivaarwad' and corruption. The youth of the country is so angry with Congress that it doesn't want to see their face again," the PM said.

Calling the Congress party a symbol of instability, he said that its alliance will never be able to run the country properly.

"Congress was in power for 60 years; once they used to win 400 seats, but today they can't even find candidates for 300 seats. They are paying the price of their wrongdoing. Now they have made an opportunistic alliance in the name of the INDIA bloc which got its wings clipped before it could take flight. The so-called allies are contesting against each other in the states and at least in 25 per cent of seats," PM Modi said.&nbsp;

<h2>'Numbers needed to stop BJP are there,' says Mallikarjun Kharge</h2>

Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge, reacting to PM Modi's remarks where he alleged that the party was incapable of contesting on 300 seats in the Lok Sabha elections, asserted that the numbers required to dethrone BJP are with them.

"Let him (PM Modi) speak whatever he wants to. I am not here to answer his questions. The number needed to stop them (BJP) are there with us," Kharge told news agency ANI.

Following the recent killing of Neha&nbsp;Hiremath in the south Indian state of Karnataka, the accused's father on Saturday (Apr 20) demanded maximum punishment for his son Fayaz Khondunaik and apologised to the victim's family.&nbsp;

Neha, daughter of Congress Councillor from Hubballi-Dharwad Municipal Corporation, was killed on campus by Fayaz, who used to be her classmate, earlier this month in broad day light.&nbsp;

As the southwest Indian state of Karnataka is set to go to polls in the second and third phase of Lok Sabha elections on April 26 and May 7, the&nbsp;killing of the Congress corporator's daughter has become a major flashpoint between the ruling Congress party and the opposition BJP in the state.&nbsp;

Neha was a first-year Master of Computer Applications (MCA) student at KLE Technological University in Hubballi.

Fayaz's father, Baba Saheb Subani, a school teacher by profession said he was informed about the incident on Thursday evening and was left aghast by his 23-year-old son's act.

"He (Fayaz) should be punished in a way that no one dares to do such a thing in future. With folded hands, I apologise to Neha's family members. She was like my daughter," he told reporters.

Subani further said that he had separated from his wife almost six years ago and since then Fayaz has been living with his mother.&nbsp;

He said that he spoke to his son about three months ago and that Fayaz only called him when he needed money.

Subani then recalled that eight months ago, Neha's family spoke to him and alleged that his son was troubling their daughter.

Admitting that his son made a mistake, he said Fayaz and Neha were in a relationship and loved each other.

"Fayaz told me he wanted to marry her but I refused it with folded hands," he added.

He then condemned his son's act and demanded strict punishment for Fayaz, stating that no one should ever dare to commit such atrocities against women.&nbsp;

"I request the people of Karnataka to forgive me. My son has done wrong. He will be punished by the law of the land and I welcome it. My town has got a black mark because of my son. People of Munavalli (Fayaz's hometown) please forgive me. You raised us. Please forgive me," he pleaded with folded hands.

Earlier, Fayaz's mother Mamtaz, who is also a teacher by profession, demanded capital punishment for her son.

“I apologise to the people of Karnataka as well as Neha’s family for what my son has done. It is a great injustice to Neha and her family," she said.

“What my son has done is completely wrong and we hang our heads in shame. What he did is a big mistake and he should be given strict punishment as per the law of the land,” she added.
