West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee&nbsp;slammed the Indian government for objecting to her remarks about offering shelter to Bangladeshi refugees&nbsp;fleeing the country in the wake of violent protests.&nbsp;

Mamata enlisted her credentials of serving as a minister in various capacities and said the government should not be teaching her.&nbsp;

"I know the federal structure very well. I was an MP seven times, I was a Union minister twice. I know the MEA policy better than anyone else. They shouldn’t teach me a lesson; they should learn from the system instead," said Mamata.&nbsp;

Mamata's statement comes a day after the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) in a briefing confirmed that Bangladesh had conveyed its objection to the statements made by the Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader.&nbsp;

“I can confirm that we have received such a communication from the Bangladesh side. It is on the lines described in the reports,” said MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal on Thursday.

On Wednesday (Jul 24) Bangladesh Foreign Minister Hasan Mahmud stated that his ministry sent a diplomatic note to New Delhi.&nbsp;

"With due respect to the West Bengal Chief Minister, with whom we share a very close relationship, we want to make it clear that her comments have a lot of scope for confusion. Therefore, we have given a note to the Government of India," Mahmud said.

Violence hit a peak in Bangladesh last week before the Supreme Court intervened and slashed most of the quotas. The court ordered the quota for&nbsp;veterans and their families to be cut to five per cent, with 93 per cent of jobs to be allocated on merit.

The remaining two per cent will be set aside for members of ethnic minorities and&nbsp;transgender and disabled people.

Jobaida Begum, who lost her mother and grandmother in the ravaging 1991 cyclone that killed 138,000 people, was among the first people to receive keys for her apartment.&nbsp;

"Our home in the Kutubdia island was destroyed in the cyclone and we took shelter in a coastal slum outside Cox's Bazar airport. But during high tide, this slum home also goes under water," Jobaida said, reported news agency AFP.

The area, which has a population of around 40,000, is one of the biggest settlements in Bangladesh for the people referred as climate refugees.&nbsp;

The majority of people are from the Bay of Bengal island Kutubdia, which around 40 per cent submerged in water.&nbsp;

"The sea has swallowed everything my parents had in Kutubdia... We have been living in this damp slum for past 25 years," said Jillul Karim, 40, another of those who to were given a flat.
