The hit film "Joker" leads the nominations for Sunday's Bafta awards but "1917" is hotly tipped for best film at the last major prize ceremony before the Oscars. Hollywood stars will pack the Royal Albert Hall in London for the glitzy bash, where Joaquin Phoenix and Renee Zellweger are tipped to scoop the main acting awards. The psychological thriller "Joker", with Phoenix in the Batman villain title role, leads the way with 11 nominations, followed by crime flick "The Irishman" and comedy-drama "Once Upon a Time in Hollywood". However, Sam Mendes' World War I epic "1917", which has nine nominations, is the favourite to win the best film and best director categories. The British Academy of Film and Television Arts' 73rd annual movie awards could indicate which way the Oscars might go in Los Angeles on February 9. Last year, Bafta gave the best acting prizes to Rami Malek and Olivia Colman; Alfonso Cuaron won best director, and Mahershala Ali won best supporting actor -- honours all replicated at the Academy Awards.

The winners of BAFTA 2018 TV awards were announced on Sunday in London as Peaky Blinders took home the Best Drama series award while The Handmaid’s Tale was voted the Best International series. Streaming platform Netflix’s hit royal drama The Crown again lagged behind in prize even after being nominated for major awards like last year.&nbsp;

The Crown got three nominations (Best Drama, Leading actress for Claire Foy and Supporting Actress for Vanessa Kirby) out of which Kirby took home the coveted prize. Claire Foy again missed out in the lead actress category as Molly Windsor won for her performance in Three Girls. Last year, the drama series picked up five nominations but was snubbed on the big night.&nbsp;

Netflix’s anthology series Black Mirror also got three nominations, equalling to police drama Line of Duty and miniseries Three Girls, both from the BBC.

Comedian and presenter Sue Perkins hosted the event and poked fun at The Crown’s gender pay dispute. “I don’t want to ignore the elephant in the room but on such an occasion I think it would be crass to discuss my fee,” she said. “But let me say I’ll just be putting in half the effort.”

Anupam Kher has secured a nomination in the Best Supporting Actor category at the British Academy Television Awards 2018 for his role in the drama "The Boy with the Topknot". 
 
The show, which aired on BBC Two in 2017, is based on a critically acclaimed memoir of the same name by journalist Sathnam Sanghera. 
 
Also starring Sacha Dhawan and Deepti Naval, it follows a boy growing up in Wolverhampton to traditional Punjabi parents. Kher and Naval play the parents of the protagonist. 
 
Other fellow nominees in the Best Supporting Actor category are Adrian Dunbar for 'Line of Duty', Brian F O'Byrne for 'Little Boy Blue' and Jimmi Simpson for 'USS Callister' episode of Netflix's 'Black Mirror'.

 
Kher, who has appeared in a number of international projects such as 'The Big Sick', 'Silver Linings Playbook', 'Sense8' and others, took to Twitter to express his happiness.
