In another targeted killing of a minority community member, a Christian man was shot dead by unknown assailants in the northwestern region of Pakistan on Saturday, police said.

The unfortunate incident took place when the victim Kashif Masih was present at his home in the Sufaid Dheri Pishtakhara area of Peshawar.

As per the police, armed motorcyclists gunned down Kashif Maseeh on his doorstep.

"Kashif Masih was gunned down at home by a few unknown men," said police said, adding that efforts to catch the gunmen are being made.

This is the second such incident reported of minority members' target killing in the last 24 hours in Peshawar as on Friday, a Sikh trader, Diyal Singh, was killed in Peshawar, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KPK) province.

As per reports, Singh was in his shop which is located in Peshawar's Dir Colony market when the assailants forcefully barged into his shop and started firing indiscriminately.

Singh was twice shot in the head which led to his death instantly. Around 30 bore bullet shells were recovered by the police from the site of the incident.

In May 2020, two members of the Sikh community were gunned down in Peshawar by extremists.

Victims, Guljeet Singh (42) and Ranjeet Singh (38) were operating their spice shops located in Battathal Bazaar when the attackers came and opened fire.

Last month, its neighbouring nation India criticised Islamabad at the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) stating 'no religious minority can freely live or practice' their religion in the country.

As per estimates of the Human Rights Commission of Pakistan, in the population of 207 million, Muslims account for 96 per cent, Hindus 2.1 per cent and Christians about 1.6 per cent.&nbsp;

In another minority killing, Christian man gunned down by assailants in Pakistan

Five Palestinians were killed by the Israeli forces during a gunfight that broke out when a raid was being conducted in Jericho, a Palestinian city in the occupied West Bank, as the forces tried to arrest suspects involved in a shooting attack, said an Israeli security official said, as Hamas Islamists confirming their fighters were among those killed.

The official added that the bodies of the Palestinians killed are being held by the army. In a statement, Hamas said it was mourning the death of their armed wing members who were killed "in an armed clash with the Zionist occupation".

"During the activity, a number of armed assailants were killed after firing toward IDF (Israel Defence Forces) soldiers who were operating in the area," claimed the army in a statement on the operation carried out in Aqabat Jabr camp at the city's entrance.

The Palestinian health ministry stated that "three citizens were shot by the Israeli occupation during the attack on Jericho," and one of them is in critical condition.

The army did not claim how many armed men were killed in the camp. Also, no casualties were reported among its forces.

The raid that took place on Monday was aimed at arresting "the Hamas terrorist squad that carried out the shooting attack" on January 28, after two armed men reached an Israeli restaurant near Jericho, stated the army.

At the restaurant, one of the gunmen opened fire, however, his weapon was jammed after only one bullet which did not hurt anybody.

Both the gunmen then fled to Jericho, and since then, searches are being conducted by the army in the area.

The raid took place at a time of heightened tensions which increased fears of further escalation in violence and both sides were appealed to maintain calm by the United States and international bodies, which includes the United Nations.

Five Palestinians killed in Jericho raid by forces, claims Israeli official

&quot;We are investigating the incident from all possible angles to find out the motive behind the killing of the 38-year-old leader,&quot; the SP asserted.

A massive search operation led by Sub-Divisional Police Officer Ranveer Singh has been launched to apprehend the culprits.

&quot;Munda&#39;s cousin Birsa and mother Aguni Devi were initially admitted in a local hospital with bullet injuries. The doctors there referred them to Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences in Ranchi. Their condition is stable now,&quot; the SDPO said.

Initial investigations suggest Munda was killed by suspected members of an ultra group over levy demands, he added.

The district committee president of the BJP, Kashinath Mahato, said he has found out from the villagers that a group of assailants dragged Munda out of his house before pumping bullets into him.

Mahato today sought adequate compensation for Munda&#39;s kin, a government job for a family member and education expenses of his children.

He said that the BJP state committee has assured a sum of Rs 2 lakh from the party fund to the victim&#39;s family.
