Leader of Maldives Jumhooree Party (JP), Qasim Ibrahim has appealed to Maldivian President Mohamed Muizzu to formally apologise to Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the citizens of the country.

This comes as the main opposition of Maldives, MDP, which has a majority in the Maldivian Parliament, said that it has been planning to submit a motion for the impeachment of the president.&nbsp;

This decision was followed by clashes which broke out between pro-government MPs and opposition lawmakers in the House following differences over the approval of four members of his cabinet.

"Regarding any country, especially a neighbouring one, we shouldn't speak in a way that affects the relationship. We have an obligation to our state that must be considered. President Solih did consider this obligation and issued a Presidential Decree banning the 'India Out'&nbsp;campaign. Now, Yameen (former president Abdulla Yameen) is questioning why Muizzu, who participated with him in the India Out Campaign, has not nullified the Presidential Decree," Ibrahim said, as reported by news agency ANI.&nbsp;

"The decree should not be nullified, as it would only result in a loss to the nation. That cannot be done. I would tell Muizzu that it shouldn't be done. Also, I call on President Muizzu to formally apologise to the Indian government and Prime Minister Modi regarding his remarks after the China trip," he said.&nbsp;

<h2>Maldives' decree over 'India Out' campaign</h2>

Meanwhile, last year, a decree was signed by the then-Maldives President Ibrahim Solih which stated that the opposition's 'India Out' campaign is a "threat to national security".&nbsp;

This permits security agencies to pull down campaign banners and provide constitutional cover for taking action against opposition parties.

In a staunchly worded letter that could sour the build-up to this weekend's coronation, Indigenous representatives from 12 Commonwealth nations also called for financial reparations and the return of stolen cultural treasures.

The letter was signed by leaders from Australia -- where Indigenous people were massacred by British colonisers and forced off their lands -- as well as several Caribbean nations once plundered for slaves.

Charles has in recent years stepped up efforts to engage with Indigenous leaders, as the monarchy faces a reckoning over its links to the slave trade and the British Empire's legacy of violence.&nbsp;

Although he has conceded the crown must "acknowledge the wrongs which have shaped our past", the letter implores him to go further by offering a formal, royal apology.&nbsp;

Former Olympian Nova Peris, the first Aboriginal woman elected to Australia's federal parliament, was one of the leaders to sign the letter.&nbsp;

A staunch critic of Australia's ties to the royal family, Peris said it was time to "acknowledge the horrific and enduring impacts" of colonisation and the "legacy of genocide" felt by many Indigenous populations.&nbsp;

"It's vital for us to discuss and educate people on the truth behind colonisation, during the week of the coronation," she said.&nbsp;

"Conversations start with listening."&nbsp;

The letter said Charles should start discussions about compensating Indigenous people, who watched as British colonisers pilfered their treasures and trashed their cultures.&nbsp;

Human rights expert Hannah McGlade, an Aboriginal woman from Western Australia, said reparations remained a key sticking point for many.&nbsp;

"We are increasingly seeing Indigenous people call for reparations from the royal family," she told AFP.

"They really do have that history that they haven't tackled. Genocide happened on their watch."

The letter was also signed by representatives from Canada, New Zealand and Papua New Guinea.&nbsp;

We cannot ignore such a statement which puts the burden of such crimes on the way women dress up. It is a dangerous statement for women like us who work in offices, fields and factories," said one protestor.&nbsp;

Last week, Khan has blamed 'fahashi' (vulgarity) for surge in rape and sexual violence instead of the deteriorating law and order situation in the country. &nbsp;

As he took calls from the people on Sunday, Khan, when asked by a caller what the government plans to do in the light of rising incidents of rape and sexual violence, especially against children, said that there are some fights that governments and legislation alone cannot win and that the society must join in the fight. He said it was important for societies to protect themselves against 'fahashi' (vulgarity), reported Geo News. &nbsp;

The prime minister said incidents of rape and sexual violence that make their way to the media are just one per cent of the actual horrific crimes of such nature that take place.&nbsp;

Actress Priyanka Chopra on Saturday took to Twitter to issue an apology for the recent controversy over an episode in the American TV Quantico, in which she plays the lead, which showed Indians as terrorists.&nbsp;

Taking to her Twitter handle, the actress said that her intention was not to hurt the sentiment of the people and that she was a proud Indian.

"I'm extremely saddened and sorry that some sentiments have been hurt by a recent episode of Quantico. That was not and would never be my intention. I sincerely apologise. I'm a proud Indian and that will never change. (sic)," Priyanka tweeted.
