The Tata Boeing Aerospace Limited (TBAL) facility in the southern Indian city of Hyderabad reached a major milestone by successfully delivering the 250th made-in-India fuselage for the AH-64 Apache attack helicopter.&nbsp;

The company is the lone supplier of fuselages (central and main portion of an aircraft) for the widely-used attack helicopter.&nbsp;The fuselages made at the Indian facility undergo final assembly at Boeing's facility in Mesa, Arizona.&nbsp;

The US Army and Indian Air Force are among the users of the particular helicopter with the latter having placed orders for six of them already.&nbsp;

The defence-aerospace firm said that this latest milestone reflects TBAL's continuous dedication to bolstering India's defence capabilities and advancing the nation's indigenous manufacturing prowess.

At its 14,000 sqm facility, the joint venture firm between Boeing and Tata Advanced Systems Limited (TASL), employs over 900 engineers and technicians, leveraging cutting-edge robotics, automation, and advanced aerospace concepts in its manufacturing processes.

According to the firm, over 90 per cent of the parts used in the Apache aerostructure assemblies are manufactured in India through more than 100 Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSME) suppliers.

Globally, more than 1,280 Apache helicopters are in operation and they have accumulated a total of more than five million flight hours, of which 1.3 million hours have been during combat.&nbsp;

With the contemporary AH-64E Apache variant in production till at least 2028, Boeing foresees that the aircraft will remain in service as a primary attack helicopter for various nations, into the 2060s.

Boeing delivered the first US Army Apache AH-64A variant in 1984 and thereafter went on to deliver more than 2700 of these choppers for various global customers including Egypt, Greece, India, Indonesia, Japan, Israel, Korea, Kuwait, UAE, UK, Qatar and Saudi Arabia among others.&nbsp;

Boeing's carrier-based fighter aircraft the F/A-18 Super Hornet and the French Dassault Rafale-M are close contenders for the Indian Navy's fighter jet requirements. It is expected that Boeing will showcase the F/A-18 Super Hornet fighter aircraft at the event.&nbsp;

According to Boeing, the company will be focusing their presence at Aero India 2023 on investments in growing local services and capabilities, workforce development and partnerships in support of India’s 'Aatmanirbhar Bharat'(self-reliant) vision. A key strategic goal for Boeing in India is to strengthen and leverage local talent and its growing network of more than 300 supplier partners, said the firm.&nbsp;

In addition to this, the Government owns and operates three VVIP aircraft, and two Head of State aircraft. More than 150 Boeing airplanes, including the Next-Generation 737, 737 MAX, 757, 777, and 787 Dreamliner, are operated by India’s leading commercial airlines. Boeing's annual sourcing from India stands at over $1 billion and the firm employs over 5,000 people in India, and more than 13,000 people work with its supply chain partners.&nbsp;

Boeing to exhibit Apache attack helicopter simulator, at Aero India 2023

Tata-Boeing Aerospace Limited (TBAL), an Indo-American defence and aerospace joint venture firm, has delivered the first fuselage (the central part of an aircraft or helicopter, to which the wings and tail are connected), for the six AH-64 Apache attack helicopters ordered by the Indian Army.&nbsp;

The TBAL facility in the Indian city of Hyderabad is the global sole source supplier for Apache fuselages and has produced complex aero-structures for Boeing 737 and 777 aircraft. The miniature model of the Apache that was shown at the roll-out event indicates that the Army's choppers would sport a 'desert camouflage' look.

The fuselage rolled out of the Hyderabad plant in India, will be supplied to Boeing's Apache final assembly plant in Mesa, Arizona, for further integration. So far, the TBAL plant in India has supplied more than 190 fuselages.&nbsp;

According to the firm, more than 90 per cent of the parts used in these aerostructures' assemblies are manufactured within India via more than 100 Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) suppliers.&nbsp;

More than 1,275 units of the Apache helicopters are in operation, accumulating more than 4.9 million flight hours globally, of which 1.3 million have been in combat. The Indian Army's six Apaches are the second fleet of Apaches ordered by India, as the Indian Air Force had taken delivery of 22 AH-64-E variants of the Apache chopper in 2020.&nbsp;

India operates four classes of aircraft from Boeing, the C-17 Globemaster III strategic transporter, the P8I Poseidon multi-role maritime mission aircraft, the Chinook heavy-lift helicopter and the Apache attack helicopters.&nbsp;

TBAL's 14,000sqm facility in India employs over 900 engineers and technicians and utilises advanced robotics, automation, and aerospace concepts in its manufacturing processes.
