<p>At the age of 26, Rickman decided to divert all of his attention to acting and give away his position in the design company. In a&nbsp;few years, he started getting projects as he was a member of the Royal Shakespeare Company.</p>

<p>In 1985, he starred as anti-hero Le Vicomte de Valmont in the play <em>Les Liaisons Dangereuses</em> (Dangerous Liaisons). After earning a Tony nomination for his performance, he started getting offers for films.</p>

Google Doodle pays tribute to Harry Potter star Alan Rickman

<p>The death of legendary English actor Alan Rickman in 2016 was a huge loss to cinema. The award-winning actor was known for his considerable screen presence and a deep voice that served his characters well, particularly if they were not, um, morally perfect. While he gave numerous great performances in his career, for most of us, he will always be remembered for playing black-clad Severus Snape in the 'Harry Potter' film series. Initially presented as a forbidding, almost evil character, JK Rowling, who wrote the source material, pulled the rug under the readers' (and viewers') feet when Snape ended up as probably the most complex, compelling, and tragic character in the entire story.</p>

<p>And it was mainly thanks to Rickman, who embodied the character's many, many&nbsp;contradictions perfectly. It turns out the late thespian did really have a streak of Snape in him, which probably made his performance so credible. Tom Felton, who played Draco Malfoy in the films, is releasing his memoir 'Beyond the Wand: The Magic and Mayhem of Growing Up a Wizard' soon, and recalled an incident in which Rickman turned on his Snape-mode -- offscreen.&nbsp;</p>

Publisher Canongate has acquired the rights to the book, reportedly titled 'The Diaries of Alan Rickman'. It will be edited by Alan Taylor, editor of the Scottish Review of Books.</p>

The avid theatre-goer also reviewed plays he attended and shared behind-the-scenes stories from the set of 'Harry Potter', which he was a part of for a decade, between 2001 and 2011. Publisher Canongate has acquired the rights to the book, reportedly titled 'The Diaries of Alan Rickman'. It will be edited by Alan Taylor, editor of the Scottish Review of Books. Having worked in cinema and theater for nearly four decades, before dying of pancreatic cancer in 2016, Rickman fetaured in many iconic films like <em>Die Hard</em> (1988), <em>Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves</em> (1991) and<em> Sense and Sensibility </em>(1995), but it was his performance as the digruntled, caustic yet caring professor Snape in <em>Harry Potter</em> films that got Rickman global fame.&nbsp;</p>

<p>However, some old letters have revealed that how the actor was not happy with the way his role shaped up in the film franchise.&nbsp;<br />

One letter from David Heyman, the producer of the fantasy movies, refers to the actor's performance in <em>Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets</em> (2002). Heyman writes, “Thank you for making HP2 a success. I know, at times, you are frustrated but please know that you are an integral part of the films. And you are brilliant.”</p>

<p>While working on<em> The Half-Blood Prince</em> (2009), Rickman wrote a note titled 'Inside Snape’s Head', in which he complained about the film’s director and wrote, “It’s as if David Yates has decided that this is not important in the scheme of things i.e. teen audience appeal.”<br />

There is also a letter from JK Rowling, the author on whose bestsellers the Potter films were based, where she thanls Rickman for " “doing justice to my most complex character”, Independent reported.&nbsp;<br />

“Other items in the collection include letters from Prince Charles, Bill Clinton and Tony Blair, along with Rickman’s copy of the <em>Die Hard </em>script, the 1988 blockbuster movie in which he played the villain Hans Gruber,” the newspaper reported.
