A 'great swarm' of earthquakes was detected by the scientists off the coast of Washington, as they calculated that as many as 200 tremors may have hit in one hour on a single day.

The University of Washington's geologists said that the earthquakes can lead to the eruption of the Juan de Ruca Ridge volcano in a few weeks or years, however, the effects on Earth will most probably be mild and not have much impact.&nbsp;

The underwater volcano is located more than 16,000 feet below the Pacific Ocean and nearly 150 miles off the coast of Washington.

Since more than a thousand tiny quakes have been detected in a day, this is the highest number of activity detected at the site since 2005 and the scientists claimed that the volcano can soon erupt.

The team claimed that the data which will be collected when the eruption of the volcano takes place will reveal&nbsp;how the crust of the Earth is formed over time by cooled magma.&nbsp;

The real-time monitoring network of the group on March 6 detected the earthquakes and registered a 4.1 magnitude.&nbsp;

A marine seismology PhD candidate at the University of Washington Zoe Krauss said that this is a natural phenomenon which can form a new ocean floor.

In the case of an eruption of Juan de Fuca Ridge, the rupture will take place because of the pulling apart of two plates from one another and will open a&nbsp;giant crack from which magma will flow out at about 1,500 degrees Fahrenheit.

In a statement released by ONC, President and CEO Kate Moran said, "No one should be alarmed about this great swarm of earthquakes. They are far offshore and cause no danger. Rather, the data are exciting to the science community and certainly not menacing."&nbsp;

More than 200,000 minors have been sexually abused by the Roman Catholic clergy in Spain since 1940, as per the findings published by an independent commission on Friday (Oct 27).

No specific figure was mentioned by the report, but it said that in a poll of around 8,000 people it was discovered that 0.6 per cent of around 39 million people living in Spain said that they had been sexually abused by&nbsp;members of the clergy when they were young.&nbsp;

After abuse by lay members was included, the percentage increased to 1.13 per cent, making it nearly more than 400,000 people,&nbsp;said Spain's national ombudsman Angel Gabilondo at a press conference for presenting the report's findings.&nbsp;

The revelations made in Spain are the latest to rock the Roman Catholic Church after many sexual abuse scandals were exposed around the world, which generally involve children, in the past 20 years.

In Spain, a traditionally Catholic country that has become highly secular, clerical abuse allegations have started gaining traction now as the survivors continue making accusations.

"Unfortunately, for many years there has been a certain desire to deny abuses or a desire to conceal or protect the abusers," stated Gabilondo, a former education minister.

The report has criticised the Catholic Church's attitude and asked it to respond to the cases of child abuse which involved the "insufficient" clergy. &nbsp;

The report appealed for the creation of a state fund for paying reparations to the victims.

<h2>Findings to be discussed in extraordinary meeting</h2>

Before the presentation of the report in the parliament, the Spanish bishops conference stated that an extraordinary meeting would be held to discuss its findings on Monday (Oct 30).&nbsp;

In March 2022, Spain's parliament gave approval for the establishment of an independent commission led by the ombudsman of the country to "shed light" on allegations of sexual abuse of "defenceless boys and girls" which took place inside the Catholic Church.&nbsp;

The Catholic Church of Spain, which clearly refused to carry out its own investigation, did not agree to participate in the independent investigation, although they co-operated by sharing documents on cases of sexual abuse which had been collected by dioceses.

With the increasing political pressure, a private law firm in February 2022 was tasked with an "audit" into past and present sexual abuse cases by teachers, clergy, and others who were associated with the Church and it was said that the audit should be completed by the end of the year.

One in five of over 800 children it examined had severe acute malnutrition, while 16 severely malnourished children &quot;at immediate risk of death&quot; were referred to its in-patient treatment centre. 
 
At least 188 people have died in the internally displaced people (IDP) camp in Bama, some 70 kilometres (45 miles) from Maiduguri, since May 23 -- about six a day -- mainly from diarrhoea and malnutrition, MSF said in a statement. 
 
A total of 1,233 graves, many of them of for children, had been dug near the camp in the past year, the agency said. 
 
&quot;This is the first time MSF has been able to access Bama, but we already know the needs of the people there are beyond critical,&quot; said MSF head of mission in Nigeria, Ghada Hatim. 
 
&quot;We are treating malnourished children in medical facilities in Maiduguri and see the trauma on the faces of our patients who have witnessed and survived many horrors.&quot;
