Virat, Rohit relive T20 WC-winning moments in chat with PM Modi in New Delhi

The Indian Cricket Team met Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday(Jul4)morning at his residence in New Delhi. Upon their arrival in the country, the Men in Blue first went to the ITC Maurya Hotel before departing for the PM residence to have breakfast with him. The T20 World Cup-winning Team met PM Modi and chatted briefly, recalling the magical moments during the final in Barbados.

India beat South Africa by seven runs in the summit clashon Saturday (Jun 29), with veteran batter Virat Kohli hitting top form on the D-Day. He scored a gritty 76, helping India win the match and winning the Player of the Match for his performance. Besides, India Captain Rohit Sharma was India’s top-scorer in the tournament, while Suryakumar Yadav’s ‘The Catch’ made headlines.

PM Modi sat with the Indian Team and spoke to everyone. Per the reports, he asked skipper Rohit how the mud tasted, as the visuals of Rohit eating grass off the pitch after the win (on paying tribute) went viral.

PM Modi also chatted with Kohli, asking him of his performance in the grand finale. While Kohli struggled big time in each of the seven matches before the final, the most successful batter of his generation stood tall on the day it mattered the most, scoring a fifty-plus and putting India in a commanding position.

PM Modi also spoke with all-rounder Axar Patel, whose contributions came in handy for the team during the tournament. While he was among the wickets for the Men in Blue, Axar impressed everyone with his hitting ability. Even against the Proteas in the final, Axar scored 47 off 31 balls, hitting four sixes. PM Modi asked about how he felt about promotion in the batting order.

'SKY’s Catch'- The talking point

Not just PM Modi, the world continues to talk about the 'Catch' that helped India win the match and the T20 World Cup. During a brief chat with SKY, PM Modi asked him to relive those magical moments.Suryakumar’s acrobatic effort near the boundary line was the moment the Indian cricket fans will cherish forever.

After visiting PM Modi at his residence, the Indian Team flew to Mumbai for the evening function, including a felicitation ceremony, followed by an open bus victory parade on the streets of Mumbai.
