'Club has become a ­laughing stock': Chelsea supporters' scathing letter to owner Todd Boehly

Fans of the Chelsea Football Club have started showing more and more dissent towards Todd Bohely - the American owner of the London-based club. In a letter to Bohely, theChelsea Supporters Trust (CST) said the club had become a "laughing stock on and off the pitch" since being bought by him and Clearlake Capital in 2022.

The supporters have already warned that aslide towards “irreversible toxicity” in the stands is likely to end in protests against the ownership.

“The current feeling amongst Chelsea supporters in our opinion is at its lowest since the early 1980s,” the CST said.

The low confidence of the supporters was evident during the recent FA Cup match against Leicester City in which forward Raheem Sterling was booed after struggling massively in the game.

Meanwhile, manager Mauricio Pochettino and Boehly were booed and abused heavily during the 2-2 draw at Brentford earlier this month.

“The views of a quiet few became a vocal expression of a larger number of Chelsea supporters present at the [Brentford] game. Much of our recent dialogue with supporters reveals a lack of belief in the decision-makers at the top of our club," the letter added.

"The current mood amongst supporters is critically low and cannot be ignored. The feeling that the club has become a ‘­laughing stock’, both on and off the pitch, is growing."

Shaky reign for Pochettino

Having taken over a struggling Chelsea side, Pochettino has managed a mixed bag of results so far. His side went down against Liverpool in the League Cup final in the dying seconds of the game whilstqualifying for the FA Cup semis. However, the club remains 11th in the Premier League points table which has drawn the ire of supporters.

Apart from booing the upper hierarchy, the fans have started singing former manager Jose Mourinho's name, suggesting that the Portuguese be brought back to the club to steer the ship.

With only 11 games to go in the PL season, the Blues are nowhere near contention to play European football next year. Failing to do so means it will be the second consecutive season the club has missed out on continental football.

Under previous owner Roman Abramovich, Chelsea had the enviable record of coming out with at least one trophy in most of the seasons. However, since his departure, the club has been a mess, both on and off the pitch.
