From Everest's base to earth's lowest elevation at Dead Sea, International Yoga Day celebrated across the globe

The first International Day of Yoga was observed all over the world on June 21, 2015, when over 30,000 people including Prime Minister Modi performed yoga at the Rajpath in New Delhi.

Yoga is above religion and caste, says PM Modi

Prime Minister Narendra Modi Friday performed Yoga with around 30,000 enthusiasts at the Prabhat Tara ground in Ranchi.

''We should make efforts to take yoga from cities to villages and tribal areas. Yoga is above religion, caste, colour, gender and region, it is above everything," PM Modi said.

Yoga celebrated at Base Camp of Mount Everest

The 5th International Yoga Day is being celebrated across the world from the base camp of Mount Everest to Washington monument, from Effiel tower in Paris to Wuhan China with full force and enthusiasm.  

In the neighbourhood, yoga was celebrated in all countries. For the first time, yoga was celebrated at the Base Camp of Mount Everest also, 17600 feet above the sea level. India's Bharat Sharma and other mountaineers performed Yoga in backdrop of mighty Mount Everest.

The Indian mission in Nepal organized a Yoga day Event at Nepal’s Namche Bazaar-gateway of Mount Everest, the highest peak in the world.

Bangladesh celebrated too

In Bangladesh International Day of Yoga was celebrated at the landmark Bangabandhu National Stadium in Dhaka.

Indian envoy inaugurated the Yoga day in Bhutan

In Bhutan, yoga was celebrated in Thimpu and Phuentsholing.

In Myanmar's Yangon, country's Health & Sports Dr Myint Htwe along with Indian envoy Saurabh Kumar inaugurated the yoga day event at Thuwanna International Indoor Stadium.

'Yoga for climate change' - UN's theme

At the United Nations, Indian envoy Syed Akbaruddin and Deputy Nagaraj Naidu lead the charge.

At the UN, yoga was celebrated with the theme yoga for climate change and celebrated with gusto at the UNGA.

Syed Akbaruddin told WION, "The UN has a special place in the remarkable growth of Yoga in our lifetimes. It was here that an ancient practice was transformed into an annual global observance. Hence we always observe the occasion with zest & fervour at the UN."

Finland, Denmark saw huge turnout today

In Nordic countries like Finland and Denmark too, yoga is being adopted fast and Yoga day was the day which saw many turning up.

Indian envoy to Denmark, Ajit Gupte told wion, "International Yoga Day was celebrated with enthusiasm in three cities of Denmark - Copenhagen, Aarhus and Viejle. The events organised by Embassy of India in Copenhagen with 6 local Yoga institutes attracted growing participation."

While Vani Rao, Indian envoy to Finland said, "In Finland and Estonia, where yoga is very popular, local yoga practitioners and yoga schools participated with enthusiasm in IDY2019, in spite of an important local holiday week for 'mid-summer' celebration."

Earth's lowest elevation, Dead Sea celebrated Yoga day

It will be interesting to know, Yoga day was celebrated in Hisham's Palace, City of Jericho which has been continuously inhabited 10,000 year old city and also at Dead Sea, earth's lowest elevation.

Yoga day was celebrated in Jeddah, Russia and in more than eight places in Kazakhstan.
