<p>Several countries have evinced interest in procuring the indigenously developed Akash missile, a top Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) official said here on Saturday.</p>

<p>There is a growing demand for the Akash, an all-weather medium-range surface-to-air missile, and many nations have shown interest in it, DRDO chairman S Christopher told reporters here.</p>

<p>Developed by the DRDO, the Akash missile system has the capability to neutralise aerial targets such as fighter jets, cruise missiles and air-to-surface missiles as well as ballistic missiles.</p>

<p>Talks were underway with the countries and "it (orders for the missile) will come", Christopher said without divulging further details.</p>

<p>To a query on the allocation for research and development, he said this year the organisation has a budgetary allocation of Rs 2,000 crore.</p>

<p>Christopher, who was here to participate in a function, also said there were export inquiries for the BrahMos missile.&nbsp</p>

<p>BrahMos is a joint venture between the DRDO of India and the NPO Mashinostroyenia (NPOM) of Russia.&nbsp</p>

<p>PSU Bharat Dynamics Ltd Chairman and Managing Director, V Udaya Bhaskar said the Akash missile is going to be in good demand for another three to four years as both the Indian Air Force and the Indian Army need them in good numbers.&nbsp</p>

<p>L&T Board whole-time Director (Defence) Jayant Patil said a new aerospace facility in the district will become operational in another 10 months and it will manufacture rocket motors for Isro.</p>

<p>The defence arm of the L&T, which has so far invested Rs 500 crore in the unit here, is also supplying airframe to BrahMos missile and will expand the product range in the near future.&nbsp</p>

Fresh thunderstorm hits Delhi-NCR

<p>Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday appealed to those Kashmiri youth who have joined violence to return to their homes and live a life of dignity and peace.</p>

<p>The Prime Minister, who is on his first visit to the state after announcing the suspension of anti-militancy operations during holy month of Ramzan, said there are foreign powers at play in the state which do not want development of Jammu and Kashmir.</p>

<p>"Every stone, every weapon, raised by misguided youths destabilises their own Jammu and Kashmir. The state will have to come out of this atmosphere of instability," he said.</p>

<p>Modi said the youths need to join the mainstream development of India and of Kashmir for their future and that of coming generation.</p>

<p>He said the central and the state government have policy, intent and capability to take decisions to solve development issues of the state.</p>

<p>"I would urge everyone to channelise their energies in the development of the state. The solution to every problem is only development, development, development," he said.</p>

<p>The prime minister dedicated to the nation the 330-MW Kishenganga Power Project constructed in the Gurez area of Kashmir.</p>

<p>Modi also laid the foundation stone for the Srinagar Ring Road at the Sher-e-Kashmir International Conference Centre (SKICC) Srinagar.</p>

<p>The 42.1-Km, four-lane Srinagar Ring Road will link Galandar in West Srinagar to Sumbal in Badnipora district.</p>

<p>The Ring Road in Srinagar is aimed at reducing traffic congestion in these cities and making road travel safer, faster, more convenient and more environment-friendly.</p>

<p>"Not a single year has passed since I took over as the prime minister when I did not visit the state," he said.</p>

<p>The Prime Minister said this month is to remember Prophet Mohammad's teaching and message.</p>

<p>"The lessons of equality and brotherhood from his life can take country and the world forward in true sense," he said.</p>

<p>The Prime Minister said it was a happy coincidence that the ceremony for handing over the project is taking place in the month of Ramzan.</p>

<p>"The project will not only provide free but also sufficient power to the state. A large portion of power requirements of the state are supplied from other parts of the country. This 330 MW project will solve the shortage of power issue to a considerable extent," he said.</p>

<p>The Prime Minister said the government is trying to provide power to every house in the state under the Saubhagya scheme.</p>

<p>He said an important part of Jammu and Kashmir's development is tourism but it cannot run on old methods.</p>

<p>"The tourists now want facilities. They do not want to be stuck in narrow lanes for hours. They want continuous power supply, they want hygiene. Better air connectivity," he said, adding that the government was working for a modern ecosystem that is required for the development of tourism.</p>

<p>"There will be an increase in tourists in J and K with stronger ecosystem. The youths of the state will get new employment opportunity with it," he said.</p>

<p>Additional Sessions Judge Sidharth Sharma gave her the maximum sentence for the offences of spying and wrongful communication of information protected under the law.</p>

<p>Gupta, who was the Second Secretary (Press & Information) at the high commission, was held guilty yesterday under various provisions of the Official Secrets (OS) Act.</p>

<p>She has been granted bail by the court to allow to appeal against the conviction and the sentence.</p>

<p>While convicting her, the court had said that the e-mails "passed on by the accused were categorically sensitive information which could have been useful to the enemy country... And its secrecy was of utmost importance".</p>

<p>Gupta was convicted under Sections 3 and 5 of the Official Secrets Act which attracts a maximum sentence of three years and fine or both.</p>

<p>She was arrested on April 22, 2010, by the special cell of the Delhi Police for allegedly passing on sensitive information to Pakistani officials and remaining in touch with two ISI officials, Mubshar Raza Rana and Jamshed.</p>

<p>The Congress tweeted, " Democracy has finally won the battle against the unholy politics of intimidation, corruption and lies, Congratulations Karnataka"</p>

<p>Two days after taking oath as the chief minister of Karnataka, the BJP leader BS Yeddyurappa resigned today in the Karnataka assembly.</p>

<p>Yeddyurappa resigned saying, " If we had 113 seats, we would have changed the fate of this state. That did not happen. I expected the MLAs to come to my side. We will win all 28 Lok Sabha seats, that I assure the people. In the next assembly elections, we will win 150 seats. I will tour the state after this session. I will bring the party to power on my own. MLAs are fearful and scared. The JD(S) and Congress are harassing them. Even without power, I fight and live for the people. The Congress has subverted democracy. I am off to the Governor's house. I now give my resignation to the people of Karnataka".</p>

<p>Some TV reports had claimed earlier&nbsp;that the two time MLA from Vijayanagara (Ballari), Anand Singh would resign from the Congress after taking oath as the member of the Karnataka assembly. &nbsp;</p>

<p>The other Congress MLA Pratapgowda Patil had also slipped out of the Congress party.&nbsp;</p>

<p>According to some reports, the MLA had fleed the Congress bus to Eagleton resort and boarded a flight out of the HAL airport.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Patil had won previously from the BJP ticket in 2008 and was asking for a ticket from the party in the recent elections too. However, the BJP had denied his demands.</p>

<p>He won the recent polls on Congress ticket from the Masik constituency in Raichur.</p>

<p>Some media reports have also indicated that the BJP was trying to contact the discontent MLAs from Congress and JDS in order to woo their support and attain the required majority.&nbsp;&nbsp;</p>

<p>After <a href="http://www.wionews.com/india-news/rjd-alliance-parties-meet-bihar-governor-submit-letter-proving-majority-137916">RJD leader&nbspTejashwi Yadav</a> met with the Bihar governor Satyapal Malik demanding an invitation from him to form the government in the state, the leader also urged all the opposition parties to come together and collectively oppose the BJP led central government.</p>

<p>Earlier JD(S) MLA Shivarame Gowda had said that some of the Congress and JD(S) MLAs were going to Kochi while others to Hyderabad.</p>

<p>The two parties decided to shift their MLAs from Bengaluru after the removal of the police force from outside their resort.</p>

<p>The Congress MLAs stayed at Eagleton Resort while the JD(S) MLAs at&nbsp;Shangri-La Hotel in Bengaluru.</p>

<p>The security deployed outside the Eagleton Resort was withdrawn on Thursday. Following this, the Congress leader accused the BJP members of entering the resort and offering money to their MLAs.</p>

<p>Congress leader claimed that after the police were withdrawn from outside the resort, the BJP entered the hotel and offered money to their MLAs.</p>

<p>Apparently, the Congress and JD(S) have put their MLAs in the resort&nbsp;to keep them out of the reach of BJP.</p>

<p>The BJP, which has formed the government in Karnataka, needs to prove its majority within 15 days. The party needs the support of 7 more MLAs in order to reach the majority mark and&nbsp;continue with its governance in Karnataka.&nbsp;</p>

<p>In the elections held on May 12, the BJP emerged as the single largest party with 104 members. The Congress secured 78 seats, the JD(S) 37 and others three.</p>

<p>The US today expressed "tremendous concern" that Pakistan terrorist Hafiz Saeed was out in the open.</p>

<p>"He (Hafiz Saeed) is out in the open, it is a tremendous concern to the US. We have a reward on him, for his arrest," Heather Nauert said when asked to comment on former Pakistan prime minister Nawaz Sharif's statement on the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks.</p>

<p>"We have a very strong relationship with Prime Minister Modi’s government. We have strong people-to-people ties with the Indian State dept," the US State Department spokesperson added.</p>

<p>Nawaz Sharif had recently said in an interview to Pakistani newspaper The Dawn that Pakistani terrorists or "non-state actors" were responsible for the Mumbai terror attacks.</p>

<p>"Militant organisations are active in Pakistan. Call them non-state actors, should we allow them to cross the border and kill over 150 people in Mumbai?," the former Pakistan prime minister had said without naming Mumbai attack mastermind Hafiz Saeed terrorist outfits the Let and the Jaish-e-Mohammad (JuD).</p>

<p>India has blamed the Pakistan-based terror group Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) for the 2008 attack on the city of Mumbai which claimed over 160 lives.</p>

<p>The US also blames LeT for the Mumbai attacks and has offered $10 million for information leading to the arrest and conviction of Hafiz Saeed.</p>

<p>Washington has asked Islamabad to prosecute Saeed multiple times and strongly condemned the decision to release the US-wanted terrorist from house arrest in November last year.</p>

<p>Last month, the US designated the Milli Muslim League (MML) as a foreign terrorist organisation, stating that banned LeT members make up the MML's leadership .</p>

2 JD(S) MLAs 'hijacked' by our BJP friends, says HD Kumaraswamy

<p>A pair of wheels of the engine of Samaleshwari Express derailed in Odisha's Rayagada district today, affecting train services on the route, a railway official said.</p>

<p>Nobody was injured when two wheels of the engine of 18005 Samaleshwari Express from Howrah to Jagdalpur derailed near Keutaguda station, Chief Public Relations Officer of the East Coast Railways, J P Mishra, said.</p>

<p>"Only one pair of wheels of the engine got derailed and no coach of the train was involved. There was no report of injury to anybody in the incident," Mishra said.</p>

<p>An extra engine has been rushed from Rayagada to the site to take the coaches to Singapur Road station and steps are being taken to send a relief train to get the engine back on rails and take it to Rayagada, he said.</p>

<p>Train services were affected for some time on the route, which has a single line, said an official.&nbsp;<br />

<p>"Why are they doing it now?" he said.</p>

<p>Tendulkar said the Congress was "dreaming: about forming the government in the coastal state, but their "dream" will not be fulfilled.</p>

<p>"The BJP had staked the claim to form government successfully (in 2017), as the party had the majority with more than 21 (MLAs) supporting it," he said, adding that the Congress move was just a "stunt".</p>

<p>Meanwhile, the Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party (MGP), one of the constituents of the BJP-led NDA government, dared the Congress to parade all the 16 MLAs of the party in public before meeting the governor.</p>

<p>MGP chief Dipak Dhavalikar said the Congress had already missed the bus and was trying in vain to gain power.</p>

<p>"Do they have 16 MLAs with them? They should parade them before people before going to meet the governor," he said.</p>

<p>Dhavlikar said it would be a different matter altogether if the Congress had to stake claim for power in case the incumbent government runs into minority.</p>

<p>The BJP-led government in Goa is headed by Manohar Parrikar, who is currently undergoing treatment in the US for a pancreatic ailment.</p>

<p>In the Assembly elections held in February last year, the Congress had bagged 17 seats, becoming the single largest party in the 40-member House but fell short of the majority mark by four seats.</p>

<p>The BJP, which had bagged 13 seats, firmed up an alliance with the Goa Forward Party (GFP) and the Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party (MGP), both of which had secured three seats each, and also took the support of three Independents.</p>

<p>Subsequently, the Goa governor had invited the BJP-led coalition to form the government.</p>

<p>The Congress currently has 16 members in the Goa Assembly as one of its legislators Vishwajeet Rane joined the BJP last year. Rane later won the bypoll from Valpoi Assembly constituency on a BJP ticket.</p>
