Fuelled by soaring food prices, retail inflation climbed to a 15-month high of 4.88% in November. It was at 3.58 % in October.

Industrial output growth meanwhile slowed to 2.2% in October from 3.8% in September, with demand continuing to suffer from the disruption caused by the rollout of the new Goods and Services Tax (GST).

The Centre has told the Supreme Court, in an affidavit filed by the law minister, that it will set up 12 special courts to decide criminal cases pending against MPs and MLA.

A Tirupur court in Tamil Nadu convicted 11 people on Tuesday for the murder of Dalit youth V Shankar, six of the convicts were given death sentences.

One was sentenced to life imprisonment.

The convicts who were given death sentences included Shankar's father-in-law.

The BJP has come down hard on the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha leaders involved in organising the event, demanding an apology and their immediate suspension from the state assembly.

India's economy is projected to grow at 7.2 per cent in 2018 and 7.4 per cent in 2019, despite a slowdown observed this year and the lingering effects from the demonetisation, the UN has said.
