Ignited Minds: 'Kamal is a second Kalam' posters hit Madurai streets

"I will start my rally from Rameswaram and will announce party flag and ideology in Madurai. All are invited," the actor was quoted as saying ahead of his trip to Madurai on Tuesday. He picked Madurai as it is the cultural and political capital of the state.

Hassan said that he will address the crowd in his hometown in Paramakudi in Ramanathapuram and in Sivaganga on the way.

Several posters were put up along the route inRameswaram. The one that caught everyone's attention was that of former president APJ Abdul Kalam. The posters tried to depict Haasan as the "second Dr Kalam", as he aims to fulfill the dream of his "hero". The posters around the city say"Kamal is a second Kalam."

"Kalam is an inspirational figure for me," Haasan was quoted saying earlier as he plans to start his political journey by evoking the legacy of Dr Kalam as they both belonged to the same district - Ramanathapuram. Kalam is still considered a political icon, known as the "rocket man" for many, Hassan clearly is trying to associate himself with Kalam as he begins his political journey. Haasan also seeks to attract the young generation who were tied to Kalam's ideas.

Posters of him were also seen with other iconic leaders including rationalist leader Periyar and BR Ambedkar plastered across the streets of Madurai and Rameswaram.

Also, another poster showed him following Mahatma Gandhi's footsteps. He has always been vocal about his admiration towards Mahatma Gandhi. "I am a big fan of Gandhiji," he said.

Hassan visited late president A P J Abdul Kalam's residence in Ramanathapuram and metthe former president's brother and sister-in-law. He also visitedDr Kalam's memorial after the meeting.

On visiting the late President A P J Abdul Kalam's residence, Haasan said, "Glad to start my journey from a great man's simple abode."

Several posters inspired by memorable roles the actor has played in films. "Nammavar" or "our man", released in 1994, weremost used.

Haasan said the colour of his politics is "black" and he is concerned about saffron colour. He said black in his politics reflects a Dravidian tone and the dark skin.
