Story highlights

India fuel price hike: Fuel prices across India have been hiked for the third time in 10 days, with petrol up by 87 paise and diesel by 91 paise per litre. This comes as global crude volatility and Strait of Hormuz tensions continue to impact rates.

Fuel prices across India were raised once again on Saturday (May 23), marking the third hike in just 10 days as global energy pressures continue to impact domestic retail rates. Citing sources, ANI reported that petrol prices were increased by 87 paise per litre while diesel saw a steeper hike of 91 paise per litre. With this, in Delhi, petrol prices climbed to Rs 99.51 per litre, inching dangerously close to the Rs 100 mark. Diesel prices in the national capital rose to Rs 92.49 per litre. CNG prices were also increased by one rupee per kilo, bringing the price to 81.09/kg.

The latest revision comes amid sustained volatility in global crude markets linked to the ongoing West Asia crisis and continued concerns around shipping disruptions near the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most critical oil transit routes.

Nearly 4 lakh taxi owners are expected to support the strike, making this one of the largest coordinated transport shutdowns in recent years. The strike is being coordinated under the All India Motor Transport Congress and the United Front of All Transport Associations.
