
The Delhi Medical Association (DMA) President VK Malhotra has calledthe cancellation of Max Hospital as a"harsh decision".
He said that the government cancelled the license of the hospital to save itself while the hospital suspended the license of the doctors to save themselves.
He added that any action should not betaken with adherence to legal protocols.
"The government shouldconsider thelegal protocols formulated by them before taking up anyaction."
He questioned why was the legal step taken in haste?
He said that the case should have been referred to Delhi Medical Council for hearing. He said such extreme punishments should not be given to medical personnel only after three days of committing medical negligence.
Thelicense ofMax hospital in Shalimar Bagh was cancelled on December 8 after the death of a newborn child.
The license was cancelled due to the negligence of the hospital.
A baby born prematurely on November 30th was delivered at Max Hospital but doctors wrongly declared the baby dead.The baby died during treatment.
A panel formed by the Delhi government to look into the case had found Max hospital guilty of not following prescribed medical norms in dealing with newborn infants.
