Emotional Will Smith calls the birth of his first son Trey 'terrifying'

Actor Will Smith recently recalled the first time when he became a dad. The Oscar-winning actor, who is known for his acting worldwide, recently opened up about his emotional side when his first child was born. 

During his recent appearance on “An Evening with Will Smith” at the Grammy Museum, the 56-year-old actor recalled the birth of his son Willard Carroll “Trey” Smith III in 1992.

The actor opened up about the birth of his son, who is now 31, ahead of performing his 1997 song ''Just the Two of Us.'' He had written the song after the birth of his son. 

Interacting with the audience, Smith said that he had written the song during “probably one of the most terrifying times of my life.”

“It's when my son... Trey was born,” he explained as per People.

He went on to add that Trey was born during the second season of his show Fresh Prince of Bel-Air.

"It's crazy, but you're like, I cannot tell you what it was like bringing that child home on that first night and realizing that he was my responsibility," an emotional Smith shared with the audience. 

He added, "He's cool now, thank God – he's going to be 32 this year."

Trey is the son of Smith and his first wife Sheree Zampino. Smith also has two kids – Jaden, 26, and daughter Willow, 23 – with wife Jada Pinkett Smith, 53.

The Men in Black actor went on to talk about parenting and how it was one of the real things that shook him to his core. 

Talking about the same, Smith said, "parenting was one of the first things, the first real things in my life that really shook me to my core,"

"I remember that first night," Smith said with eyes full of tears. "I can't even talk about it. Because I had talked so crazy about my father and all the stuff my father didn't do. And then I was like, 'Oh no, it is my turn now.' And I just fell down on my knees and I made one of the most hardcore promises ever made to a human being. That I was going to do everything I could do to be a good daddy to you."

This was not the first time when Smith has talked about how his life changed after the birth of his first child. In a birthday post of his son Trey, Smith shared a heartwarming message for his son with an adorable montage video.
