Iran on Friday announced its highest number of new coronavirus infections in nearly two months and warned the Middle East's deadliest outbreak was worsening in some regions.

The government has largely lifted the closures it imposed after Iran's first cases were confirmed in February but has been watching out for any resurgence in the number of infections.

Health ministry spokesman Kianoush Jahanpour said 2,819 new cases were confirmed across the country in the past 24 hours, bringing the overall total to 146,668.

This is the highest&nbsp;figure that Iran has announced for a single day since April 2.

New infections have been on a rising trajectory ever since hitting a near two-month low on May 2.

Jahanpour said that the virus had claimed another 50 lives over the same period, raising the overall toll to 7,677.

So far the government has reimposed a lockdown on just one province, Khuzestan on the border with Iraq in the southwest.

The province remains "red", the highest level on Iran's colour-coded risk scale.

The International Labour Organisation (ILO) said the effective testing and tracing of infections was essential if employers wanted staff to return to work and for them to stay healthy.

The Geneva-based, United Nations body estimates that working hour losses can be reduced from about 14 per cent&nbsp;in countries that put in place weak track-and-trace systems down to 7 per cent&nbsp;in countries with the ''highest intensity of tracking and tracing.''

England's National Health Service&nbsp;had&nbsp;introduced a test and trace service on Tuesday,&nbsp;with 25,000 contact tracing staff&nbsp;and the capacity to trace the 10,000 contacts per day.

According to ILO's COVID-19 monitor ''testing and tracing can itself create new jobs, even if temporary, which can be targeted towards youth and other priority groups.''

The move, which appears in outline to stop short of giving the&nbsp;BN(O)s&nbsp;a right of abode, is a response to growing Conservative backbench pressure on the Foreign Office to do more to help Hong Kong citizens fearful that China is about to extinguish their independence and political freedoms.

Raab said he would extend the BN(O) holders’ current right to visit for six months without a visa to an extendable 12 months, leading to a pathway for future citizenship. The proposal has been squared with the home secretary, Priti Patel, and the prime minister’s office, but details still need fleshing out.

Raab stressed the offer was dependent on the precise next steps&nbsp;China&nbsp;seeks to take to impose its security laws.

In this “overshoot”, the middle of the hole bounces back up to create a plateau at the centre of the crater.

In simulations of the Chicxulub impact, that central plateau was tilted toward the direction the asteroid came from, though how tilted it was depended on the angle of the impact.

According to the study,&nbsp;3D simulations showed that the asteroid hit at an angle of 40 to 60 degrees, what Gareth Collins, a professor of planetary science at Imperial College London's department of earth science and engineering, described as a worst-case scenario for the dinosaurs.

"The asteroid strike unleashed an incredible amount of climate-changing gases into the atmosphere, triggering a chain of events that led to the extinction of the dinosaurs. "We know that this was among the worst-case scenarios for the lethality on impact, because it put more hazardous debris into the upper atmosphere and scattered it everywhere — the very thing that led to a nuclear winter," he added.

Nepal’s diplomatic aggression appears to be backfiring.

The country's Prime Minister KP&nbsp;Sharma Oli&nbsp;had triggered quite a stir last week after his government issued maps that included&nbsp;three Indian territories, Kalapani, Lipulekh and Limpiyadhura as its part.

However, the constitutional amendment put forth in the country's parliament to make&nbsp;the new maps official, has been&nbsp;reportedly put on hold after its&nbsp;Prime Minister KP&nbsp;Sharma Oli failed to build consensus.

Even,&nbsp;the main opposition party did not endorsed Oli’s plans. In fact, several politicians in Nepal see this as political opportunism.&nbsp;

They believe that&nbsp;the new maps were&nbsp;an effort to invoke Gorkha nationalism for personal gains.&nbsp;
