The event was a welcome dinner during which Jaishankar spoke about Indian foreign policy and had informal chats with many envoys.

Outlining the focus for the next five years, the EAM highlighted how New Delhi is ready to share global responsibilities and be part of shaping global outcomes from climate change to maritime security.&nbsp;

He explained how India will be working on its global footprint, starting with the immediate neighbourhood under the neighbourhood first policy, towards the east with Act East and other parts of the world from Pacific to Africa to Europe.&nbsp;

He said New Delhi is keen on initiating partnerships across the world as part of India's transformation. Past few years have seen PM Modi inviting countries such as Japan, Germany, France, Israel to be part of India's flagship programmes such as 'Make In India', smart cities, etc

"It was a gesture highly valued by the DC that minister Jaishankar offered us this dinner. The minister was very close and warm, approaching to greet each table and talking with us", Coromoto Godoy Calderon, Venezuelan envoy to India told WION. Adding, "I was very impressed by his kindness".

The dinner which took place at a Delhi hotel also saw Pakistan in attendance. Pakistan's Deputy High Commissioner Syed Haider Shah was representing his country.&nbsp;

Remember, Pakistan's new envoy Moin-ul-Haq still hasn't taken charge. Former Pak High Commissioner Sohail Mahmood went on to become new Pak foreign secretary leaving the position vacant.&nbsp;

Meanwhile, New Delhi is keeping its interest secure. Oil minister Dharmendra Pradhan has called Saudi oil minister Khalid Al Falih conveying India's concern on rising crude oil prices in backdrop of the developments in the Strait of Hormuz.&nbsp;

Pradhan, in a tweet, said that he "reiterated the sensitivity of Indian consumers to prevailing crude oil price volatility," adding, New Delhi has sought an active role from Riyadh which is part of oil cartel OPEC in keeping "oil prices at a reasonable level".

Impacts will also be seen on the aviation front with Indian airlines re-routing the flights in that area. Civil aviation regulator DGCA or Directorate General of Civil Aviation on Saturday announced that Indian carriers will avoid "the affected part of Iranian Airspace" to ensure safe travel for the passengers.&nbsp;

This comes after the American civil aviation regulator Federal Aviation Administration or FAA banned American flights from using the Persian Gulf, Strait of Hormuz and sea of Oman area.

Last week, the Indian Navy launched Operation Sankalp in the Persian Gulf/Sea of Oman as a measure to re-assure Indian flagged vessels transiting through the region.&nbsp;

The Navy deployed INS Chennai and INS Sunayna in the area to undertake Maritime Security operations. Aerial surveillance has also being undertaken by India and the Information Fusion Centre - Indian Ocean Region in Gurugram - is also keeping a close watch on the movement of ships in the Gulf.&nbsp;

The Navy in a release said it, "remains committed to ensuring the safety of Indian maritime trade and merchant vessels operating in the region and contributing towards maintaining a stable and peaceful Indian Ocean Region."

DG Shipping had issued two advisories, one on June 13 and another on June 16 to all Indian Flagged Vessels advising them to undertake appropriate protection measures.

Suresh Prabhu said, "We are keen that the economic offenders and those who are the perpetrators of economic crime, holders of black money should be brought to book. Those are running away from India should be brought back and no country should provide them shelter."

"We are very keen, economic growth should happen on a faster basis, and support should come from all global community. Climate change, energy, environment are very important issues. Global community should join to create a world-class infrastructure that should be quality in nature. So we are working on all these issues, " he added.

Answering a question on protectionism, Prabhu said global trade should be free from any restrictions and added that multilateral should be followed with respect to World Trade Organisation.

"India is of the strong view that global trade should be free from any restrictions. Multilateral should prevail, it should happen under WTO. Reforming WTO is necessary but it should happen in a way that all the countries in the world should have the right to decide. WTO should be forum for growth, equity and inclusiveness," he added.

US secretary of state Michael Pompeo will be on a three-day visit from June 25 to 27 during which he will meet external affairs minister S. Jaishankar.&nbsp;

India on June 6 had voted in favour of Israel for not giving consultative or observer status to a Palestinian NGO-Non governmental organisation at UN's economic and social council - ECOSOC. &nbsp;

The proposal was submitted by Israel for further scrutiny by the Committee on NGOs of the application from an NGO 'Palestinian Association for Human Rights (Witness)'&nbsp;or Shahed requesting observer status. Israel said the NGO had close contacts with terrorist organisations.

Explaining India's vote, ministry of external affairs spokesperson Raveesh Kumar said: "Our vote was in favour of the proposal in line with India’s position on greater scrutiny by the NGO Committee of the consultative status applications for possible terrorist linkages and to screen the NGO applications with the sanctions list of the UN Security Council before granting them ECOSOC status."

"It should not be linked to the Palestinian cause. It is something we have done in the past. This was done so that proper vetting of the NGO could be done before it could be admitted as ECOSOC Observer," the external affairs ministry spokesman added.

Twenty-eight countries including India have backed Isreal while fourteen countries&nbsp;voted against and five abstentions. Israel was quick to welcome India's decision. Giving an example of Hizb-e-Islami, he said, "peace settlement within the rubric of the current constitution is possible both politically and socially."

Taliban cannot negotiate from place of advantage: India to UN

India and Russia are planning to open new route connecting India's east coast with Russia's far east. It is expected to connect India to Russia's resource and energy-rich districts.&nbsp;

It was one of the focus areas when Russian Deputy Prime Minister Yury Trutnev came to India on a five-day visit from June 15 to 19.

During his visit, he met National Security Advisor(NSA) Ajit Doval, external affairs minister S. Jaishankar, minister of petroleum and natural gas Dharmendra Pradhan and vice chairman of NITI Aayog Rajiv Kumar.

Yury Trutnev is also Putin's Plenipotentiary Envoy to the Far Eastern Federal District which is the largest of eight federal districts of Russia and rich in mineral resources.

Both sides agreed to explore bilateral cooperation in the sectors of diamond-processing, petroleum and natural gas, coal and mining, agro-processing and tourism.

The visit comes ahead of the fifth Eastern Economic Forum which will be held in the eastern coastal city of Vladivostok in September in which PM Modi will be participating.

The summit will take place from July 7-8&nbsp;in its capital Niamey. The grant assistance was handed over to Niger deputy foreign minister Lamido Ousseini Bala Goga Salamatou by the Indian envoy to Niger Rajesh Agarwal.&nbsp;

This is the first time the country is hosting the AU summit and India's support was in response to a specific request made by the Niger government. The AU summit is expected to launch the historic African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).

The Indian assistance comes even as the government&nbsp;increases its engagement with the continent.&nbsp;

New Delhi in October 2015 had hosted the India-Africa summit that had seen&nbsp;maximum participation of African head of states and governments. Niger President Issoufou Mahamadou had participated in the 2015 summit and also visited India in March 2018 to attend the Founding Conference of International Solar Alliance.&nbsp;

India opened its mission in Niamey in 2009 and has provided Lines of Credit worth $ 96.54 million to Niger for projects in transport, electrification, solar energy and potable drinking water. &nbsp;
