CAMERA: A CONTENT CREATOR’S ASSET

Apple has always positioned its cameras as the showstopper feature in all its previous iterations. The iPhone 14 Pro also gets major upgrades in its camera system and evidently targets the new generation of content creators. The “Photonic Engine” offers improvement in low-light photography making the new camera system ideal for low-light shots.

The action mode is fantastic for high-adrenalin shots or even to record your kids’ many antics — making it a big hit among new-age parenting blogs too.

If you hold the iPhone 13 Pro and the new 14 Pro next to each other, you will struggle to tell them apart. The design, feel and experience of the two iPhones is near-identical and it’s difficult to find reasons to upgrade.

In a market saturated with budget phones trying to offer the best, the iPhones find themselves struggling to woo buyers. In the age of foldable phones and flip phones, a “Dynamic Island” doesn’t impress most.

But then again, Apple loyalists stick to what they know best and would want to upgrade. In that case, upgrade only and only if your iPhone is older than the 12 Pro.

Let me be frank with you. I've seen many earphones, tried them on, used them for months and been underwhelmed. But when I opened the Sony LinkBuds, I was pleasantly surprised. The USP is the unique design which isn't just for shock value. The charging case which houses the LinkBuds comes in a tiny form factor and can fit into the palm of your hand. Do note, that if you throw this into your handbag or backpack, you'll have to dig it out. The matte dark grey cover is classy and subtle and also fairly sturdy. Sony says the packaging is eco-friendly and sustainable.

And inside, are the LinkBuds which look nothing like any pair of earphones you have seen. While Apple's Airpods and their hockey stick design sparked several cheaper iterations, Sony's new open-ring design is a game-changer. It is perhaps the new truly wireless model for earphones.

HOW TO WEAR THEM?

I asked myself this question several times even as I marvelled at the design. So, if you opt for these, it will take some trial and error to get the best fit. But once they're in, the Sony LinkBuds are light and snug and one of the more comfortable fits when it comes to wireless earphones.

THE 'NEVER OFF' EXPERIENCE

In a sea of noise-cancelling wireless headsets and earphones, Sony proposes that you actually stay alert to your surroundings. The LinkBuds come with an 'audio transparency' feature which basically means that you are glued to what's happening around you even when you're on a run, writing your memoir or in a Teams Call with the LinkBuds. This feature works surprisingly well and is convenient. Let's be frank, you don't want to be caught nodding your head to your favourite tunes when your boss is yelling out for you!

There is no active noise-cancelling feature by choice and some may find this annoying at this price point. I, for one, use earphones as a support function to go wireless, and not to drown out the noise. So, if true ANC is your goal, opt for the Apple Airpods Pro or Sony's own ANC leader, the WF-1000XM4.

Sony is known for its noise-cancelling audio category which has set the bar high for the competition. The Sony LinkBuds, however, are a curious proposition. Once you pair the earphones to the Sony Headphones Connect app, you can customise controls, use the Speak-to-Chat features and more. But I find these to be very cosmetic in nature and not value adds.

Spectacular, overpowering, intense -- these are adjectives you probably wouldn't use to describe the sound quality of the LinkBuds. And that is because they are hoping to fulfil another goal. The LinkBuds let you enjoy music while being connected to the mundane yet important demands of the real world. The sound is a bit flat at times even while listening to high-adrenaline beats.

But if you're looking for great ambient sound in a comfortable fit of earphones, the LinkBuds are your best bet.

SHOULD YOU BUY THEM?

At nearly 20,000 rupees, the Sony LinkBuds are certainly an investment worth mulling over. They perform well when it comes to answering and receiving calls. Running with them was a surprising delight given the IPX4 rating and sweat-proof design and no, they didn't fall off! The LinkBuds let you enjoy your favourite beats while keeping you aware of the activity around you. Is that something you want? Then the LinkBuds are a great buy.

Just like that, March is upon us. All those fitness goals we had jotted down with great zeal, are immersing us in an endless cycle of guilt. Gym memberships are looking attractive because the world is opening up but the motivation to step out and exercise may be dying down. Social media marketing has capitalised on this guilt and indoor exercise bikes and active-wear brands have taken over our newsfeed.

When I chanced upon the <a href="https://www.wionews.com/technology/take-a-virtual-ride-to-paris-with-the-flexbike-422380">Flexnest FlexBike</a>,&nbsp;I was surprised by the ease of use and portability of the exercise bike but I didn’t find the bike sturdy enough to handle high-intensity spinning. I was eager to try out more indoor exercise options to see if at-home spinning can be turned from a social media fad to a healthy habit.

Which is why I was excited to try out the exercise bike from CultX.fit. This one is a pricey option and is available for nearly Rs 50,000!&nbsp;

Two weeks, 14 spinning sessions and more than 100 kilometres of rides later, here’s what I think.

STURDY BUT WILL TAKE UP SPACE

When the big brown box arrived at my doorstep, I was worried about where to set up such a massive piece of hardware because trust you me, the box will look daunting to all future customers. The company sends engineers to set it up at a place of choice so don’t worry about having to decode a complex manual. Keep in mind that you need to attach the bike to a power source at all times to make use of the massive LCD screen. If you’re planning to park the bike on a terrace or balcony, make sure you have a power source readily available.

Once set up, the bike takes up quite a lot of space so I suggest you park this in an open space. The all-black body is sturdy and solid so you won’t have to worry about creaking joints or wobbly knees once you hop on. There are knobs and levers to adjust the bike to your height and you can increase or decrease the resistance depending on your fitness goals.&nbsp;

There are volume controls on the side of the LCD screen. The speakers are impressive and the trainer’s voice will keep you going even if you don’t connect your Bluetooth device. There is an option to pair the bike with other devices using Bluetooth.&nbsp;

Hopping on and off the bike is easy as are the many rides the interface has to offer.

MASSIVE DISPLAY KEEPS YOU GOING

Here’s where the Cultbike gets ahead of the competition. The big USP is the massive 21.5-inch LCD touchscreen with a host of home workouts, spin classes, and virtual rides. Once you log in, I recommend you kickstart your first ride by taking a demo of how to use the bike, change resistance and height according to your comfort to avoid any injury.

The interface scores big points for being interactive and easy to use. You can access live spinning classes and some quirky “Groove” sessions with trainers who take you through every move, spin along with you and a whole community of cyclists. This works well to keep you motivated during the workout and you can see your workout statistics like distance covered, RPM, heart rate and calories burnt.&nbsp;

I tallied the calories burnt in a session on the Cultbike with my Apple Watch and found the bike’s assessment to be slightly higher than what my watch provided. Whichever statistic you choose to believe is irrelevant but it’s important to understand that there is always a margin of error.

My favourite session was “Power Pedals” where a certified trainer pushes you to increase your stamina by putting the peddle to metal! And if you’re just starting your fitness journey, I recommend you take a breezy, scenic ride through the streets of Paris, New York, or London. Well, it’s not the same thing as actually riding through those streets but anything to get you through a workout, right?

Another useful feature about the bike is the timely notification from Cultbike after every workout which gives you a summary of your statistics. This can be handy to keep a track of your progress overtime.

NEED FOR THIRD-PARTY CONTENT

Here’s what I keep wondering, why have a 21.5-inch screen only to play the brand’s own workouts? The bike misses out on a core audience by not providing third-party content on such an expensive product. Take a look at a gym or fitness centre;&nbsp; anyone using a bike, treadmill or elliptical trainer is usually watching the news, their favourite chat show or sitcom. So, adding this feature into its bucket will make the Cultbike more appealing to a wider audience.

WORTH THE PRICE TAG OF Rs 50,000?

At Rs 49,900, the Cultbike is asking for a lot of money to simply hop on a bike and cycle to nowhere. With lockdowns lifted, scores of cyclists are going for scenic rides outdoors and there is possibly nothing to replace the benefits of an outdoor workout. But what about those days when you can’t step out? Days when a hectic schedule, poor weather and bad air quality come in the way of your workout, what do you do then?&nbsp;

In another noteworthy aspect, the pricing of the iPhones in India remains the same as last year. Apple offers you improved camera features, longer-lasting battery and of course, a faster processor, the mighty A15 Bionic chipset. For most, the USP remains the jaw-dropping storage option of 1TB for the Pro models.

"India is the second-largest smartphone market in the world and continues to be an important market for Apple. Commenting on Apple's decision to maintain its India pricing from last year, Pathak calls it "a good move", attributing the decision to strong competition for iPhones in the ultra-premium segment. Pathak also expects iPhone sales to go up in the upcoming festive season in India.

I hate cluttered homescreens and with the Fire TV Cube, you get a great discovery center with your favourite content platforms neatly stacked making your viewing experience enjoyable. The layout is classic, tasteful yet functional.

Voice recognition remains the forte

Gone are the days when Alexa struggled to understand your accent. This one grasps all your commands and delivers the content in seconds giving you a hands-free viewing experience. I enjoyed this on the Echo Show 10 as well but to be able to enjoy it seamlessly on my TV is a whole other ballgame.

Speakers could have been better

I have always thought that every TV needs a soundbar for the ideal viewing experience especially if you love high adrenalin action blockbusters. So I wasn't surprised to be disappointed by the Cube's speakers. The Amazon Echo Show 10 audio quality is far superior. So I wouldn't use this to listen to songs, instead, treat this as the brain behind your television.

The Fire TV Cube supports 4K UHD, Dolby Atmos Sound and Dolby Vision video along with HDR content right out of the box. Watching content was an absolute delight especially due to the hands-free experience.

I want to start this review with a joke:&nbsp;an "affordable" Dyson product is now a reality.

What's the punchline? It still costs INR 34,900! However, if you look at Dyson's many uber-luxe offerings in the market at present, this one may be one of the cheapest.

Say hello to the Dyson Omni-glide, the latest deep cleaning tool from the company which is designed to make your life simpler and tidier.

Dyson's new vacuum cleaner fits into the latter. While it is cheaper than its more expensive, elder sibling — the mighty V11 Absolute Pro vacuum cleaner — the Omni-glide is still a costly investment.

What makes this new cleaning tool different? You can multitask while cleaning hard floors and it won't sprain your forearm.

Lockdowns made us all self-reliant when it came to household chores and perhaps that independent streak will always stay with us. The market for dishwashers, cooking equipment and vacuum cleaners saw a big boom during lockdowns. In the same streak, Dyson's V11 Absolute Pro became the undisputed king in the category because of its novel design, multiple attachments, and effective cleaning across diverse spaces.&nbsp;However, it is priced above INR 50,000 and becomes a hefty though useful investment for the house.

I have used the V11 for two years now, knocked it into hard surfaces, cleaned carpets and hard floors, scooped up my son's online class experiments — all in a jiffy. My only gripe with it was its weight. The heaviness of the machine made it difficult for younger and older family members to use it.

However, Dyson may have solved that problem with the Omni-Glide.

<h2>Smaller is better</h2>

The new Omni-glide weighs under two kilos, carries Dyson's trademark design and colour ethos and looks more like a cool Avengers' weapon than a vacuum cleaner. My hunch is this would be ideal for smaller houses with young professionals and kids, instead of sprawling villas and commercial spaces —&nbsp;that market may belong to the V11 for now. So, if you're setting up your own house for the first time,&nbsp;this would be the vacuum cleaner for you.

Omni-glide weighs only 1.9 kilos, which is a blessing. If you are familiar with Dyson's clickety-clackety sounds, then you would know how to set it up in seconds. Unlike the overwhelming number of attachments that come with the V11, here, you only get three attachments to clean other surfaces.

Remember, you cannot clean your carpets with the Omni-glide since it is meant for hard floors only. This may be a deal-breaker for some, especially at this cost.

The best thing about the smaller size was the ease of use. Both, my son and my mother could lift it up, wheel it and glide it around easily, much to their glee and excitement.

<h2>360 degrees of cleaning</h2>

The main selling point of the Omni-glide is how easy it is to maneuver and that is predominantly because of its Omni-directional fluffy cleaner head.
