In a stunning discovery, British archaeologists recently discovered eerie medieval gravestones while carrying a search operation near an ancient shipwreck.

In a press release, Bournemouth University announced the deadly discovery. The gravestones were discovered in Studland Bay, which was off the coast of Dorset, and are said to be present at the bottom of the English Channel for 800 years.

"The slabs, carved from Purbeck marble, were amongst the cargo of England’s oldest historic shipwreck, which sank off the Dorset coast during the reign of Henry III in the thirteenth century," read the press release.

In 1216, the son of King John Henry III took the throne and ruled till he died in 1272. The grave slabs found seemed remarkably preserved across the centuries, even though one of the slabs was covered in barnacles.

Archaeologists spend two hours retrieving gravestones

It took more than two hours for the maritime archaeologists to bring the stones back to the surface on Tuesday (June 11).

"One immaculately preserved slab measures one and a half metres and weighs an estimated 70 kilogrammes," said the press release.

"The other, much larger slab is in two pieces, with a combined length of two metres and a weight of around 200 kilogrammes," it added. The weight of the slabs was nearly 154 pounds and 440 pounds, respectively.

According to the archaeologists, the gravestones appeared to have been made for the important members of the clergy, those who were venerated in medieval English society.

"Both have carvings of Christian crosses which were popular in the thirteenth century and the research team believe they were intended to be coffin lids or crypt monuments for high-status individuals in the clergy," read the statement.

Archaeologist Tom Cousins, who led the study, said that they have also found the type of stone, which was used in the slabs, in Westminster Abbey, Canterbury Cathedral and Salisbury Cathedral.

"The wreck went down in the height of the Purbeck stone industry, and the grave slabs we have here were a very popular monument for bishops and archbishops across all the cathedrals and monasteries in England at the time," he said.

"Although Purbeck marble was quarried near Corfe Castle [in Dorset], there has always been a debate about how much work was done here and how much was done in London," Cousins said.

"Now we know they were definitely carving them here, but they hadn’t been polished into the usual shiny finish at the time they sank so there is still more we can learn," he added.

Bournemouth University archaeologists have now started the work of desalinating the gravestones and conserving them before they are displayed in public next year.

Pope Francis again made the same mistake of using a vulgar and disparaging word against homosexuals, an act for which the Vatican had apologised last month, said ANSA news agency on Tuesday (June 11).

Pope Francis again made the same mistake of using a vulgar and disparaging word against homosexuals, an act for which the Vatican had apologised last month, said ANSA news agency on Tuesday (June 11). According to the Italian media, the pope had used a vulgar Italian term which translated as “f*****ry,” on May 20 when a closed-door meeting was being held with Italian bishops. As reported by ANSA, the term was repeated by Pope Francis on Tuesday (June 11) when he met Roman priests and said, “There is an air of f*****ry in the Vatican". He added that it would be better if young men with a homosexual tendency were not permitted to enter the seminary. The Vatican’s press office, when speaking about the latest report, referred to the statement it had issued at the meeting held with the priests on Tuesday (June 11) and reiterated the need to welcome homosexuals in the Church and emphasised the need for caution when making them seminarians. The Vatican Press Office shared a news bulletin which summarised the hour-and-a-half meeting held with nearly 160 priests. Also Read: Vatican issues rare apology after Pope uses vulgar slur for gay men According to the report of ANSA and the bulletin, the 87-year-old pontiff spoke on various topics, which included artificial intelligence and wars in Ukraine and Gaza. At the end of the discussion, he returned to the topic of allowing entry to men with “homosexual tendencies” into seminaries and said that everyone should be welcomed into the Church while reiterating the official opposition of the Church to gay men entering the priesthood. Use of homophobic slur by Francis a misunderstanding? The use of a homophobic slur by Francis, which as per local Italian media outlets was a misunderstanding on the basis that his native language is Spanish, portrays his “complicated” legacy on LGBTQ issues. According to some, this was an honest mistake made by Pope Francis, whose second language is Italian. They argued that the Pope was not aware of how offensive the word was. Watch: Pope Francis apologises after homophobic slur Pope Francis' alleged remarks, which have gone against recent moves for amending seminary admission rules, have come as a surprise for some since Francis is known to have a more liberal view on LGBT rights in comparison to his predecessors. The pontiff had last year called the laws which criminalised homosexuality a 'sin' and an 'injustice', and permitted Catholic priests to bless same-sex couples, which was a step ahead for LGBT rights in the church. However, a similar message on gay seminarians was delivered by the Pope, which did not include the reported swear word, during his meeting with Italian bishops in 2018 in which he asked them to carefully vet priesthood applicants and not include anyone who is suspected of being homosexual. Lebanon-backed militia group Hezbollah on Tuesday (June 11) announced that one of its commanders was killed in a strike carried out in southern Lebanon by the Israeli forces. After this, Hezbollah launched more than 100 rockets at northern Israel in retaliation.

The killing of the Hezbollah commander has raised concerns regarding escalation in the conflict on another Israeli front.

Billionaire entrepreneur Elon Musk filed a motion to dismiss his lawsuit against OpenAI and its CEO Sam Altman on Tuesday, which had accused them of forsaking the startup's initial objective of building artificial intelligence for the sake of humanity rather than profit.

Musk withdraws legal action without prejudice

According to a petition in the San Francisco Superior Court, Musk's attorneys requested that the California state court dismiss the action, which was filed in February, without citing a justification for the decision. On Wednesday, a Superior Court judge was slated to consider OpenAI's motion to dismiss the complaint.

Musk's complaint was rejected without prejudice, which means he can file it again later.

The lawsuit was the climax of Musk's long-standing resistance to OpenAI, a business he co-founded that has become a pioneer in generative AI thanks to significant funding from Microsoft. Musk, who started his artificial intelligence startup, xAI, in July, raised $6 billion in Series B fundraising in May, giving the company a post-money worth of $24 billion.

Musk's lawsuit claimed that Altman and OpenAI co-founder Greg Brockman first approached him about starting an open-source, non-profit corporation. The startup, founded in 2015, is currently focusing on profitable ventures.

OpenAI responded in a court filing that Musk's action was based on illogical assertions and was a ruse to pursue his own AI goals. Musk reacted in an April filing, claiming that OpenAI was attempting to "advance arguments that are based on disputed facts" beyond the scope of the complaint.

The World Health Organization confirmed a human case of bird flu infection in the eastern Indian state of West Bengal on Tuesday (June 11).

A four-year-old child was infected with bird flu. He was admitted to the pediatric intensive care unit (ICU) of a local hospital.

The child was facing persistent severe respiratory issues, abdominal cramps and high fever in February and was discharged by the doctors after diagnosis and treatment three months later, confirmed the WHO.

According to the agency, the child was exposed to infected poultry at home and in his surroundings. No one among his family members and those who came in contact with the boy reported symptoms of respiratory illness.

The WHO stated that they did not have any information regarding the antiviral treatment administered to the child as well as about his vaccination status.

The agency stated that this is the second human infection of H9N2 bird flu reported in India. The first case was detected in 2019.

According to the International Health Regulations (2005), "a human infection caused by a novel influenza A virus subtype is an event that has the potential for high public health impact and must be notified to the WHO."

Humans are generally infected by avian influenza A(H9N2) virus after they get exposed to contaminated environments or infected poultry. Generally, such infections result in mild clinical illness.

Although the H9N2 virus generally causes mild illness, the United Nations agency said there can be sporadic human cases because the virus is one of the most prevalent avian influenza viruses that has spread in poultry in different regions.

The Indian health ministry did not immediately respond during late hours.

In Australia, supermarket chain Coles limited two cartons of eggs per day per customer in every state, except Western Australia.

According to a Bloomberg report, the measure is aimed at stopping the spread of the avian influenza virus.

On June 10, Agriculture Minister Murray Watt said that Australian eggs are safe to consume, and assured contaminated eggs are not entering the supply chain.

The climate crisis and civil protection ministry has warned of a very high risk of fires in the Attica region that surrounds Athens.

Schools will remain closed in several regions of the country on Wednesday and Thursday, including in the capital, while the work ministry has advised public sector employees to work from home.

The Acropolis was also forced to close in July last year during a two-week heatwave unprecedented in its duration.

A record number of almost four million visitors flocked to the site last year, with its popularity boosted in part due to tourists arriving on cruise ships calling in at the port of Piraeus near Athens.

Harry Dent, a renowned economist, has offered a dire warning, forecasting a stock market fall that will be more severe than the Great Recession. Dent, known for his outspoken views on the US economy and the founder of HS Dent Investment Management, warned investors in his interview with Fox News that recent market gains are just the calm before the storm.

The Warning Signs

Dent indicated the present market's unusual nature, comparing it to previous market crashes such as the one in 1929. He pointed out that, unlike prior bubbles, the current market bubble has been artificially inflated by extended monetary stimulus measures. Dent warned that the 14-year longevity of this bubble sets the stage for a fall of unparalleled proportions.

Market Projections

Dent predicted huge drops in important market indices such as the S&P and Nasdaq. He predicted an 86 per cent loss in the S&P and a startling 92 per cent drop in the Nasdaq index. Dent warned that even high-performing equities like Nvidia might suffer a 98 per cent fall.

Expert Analysis

Dent's concerns come against recent market enthusiasm, notably in tech equities like NVIDIA. However, Dent highlighted that the situation is unsustainable and advised investors to brace themselves for a severe fall.

As investors negotiate the treacherous seas of the financial markets, Dent's warnings serve as a sobering reminder of the current market's fragility. With echoes of previous market catastrophes in the air, Dent's views highlight the significance of careful risk management and a cautious attitude to investing during these difficult times.

5 Rules You Must Follow While Drinking Lemon Water To Trigger Weight Loss

It is well known that lemon water is good for health and promotes weight loss while improving energy levels and digestion. Here are five rules for drinking lemon water:

Mixing sugar or salt in the lemon water increases its calories. Just by squeezing lemon in it, we add six calories. Hence, sugar and salt should be avoided for weight loss.

2. Add Honey And Lemon Slices To Improve Taste

To enhance the taste of lemon water, one can add honey, lemon slices or mint to the drink.

3. Don't Drink Lemon Water Throughout The Day

It is not necessary to drink lemon water throughout the day. Just drinking it habitually once or twice every day works well for weight loss. It is best to drink it first thing in the morning.

When making lemon water, one should always use filtered water. This is because the contaminants present in unfiltered water alter the properties of the mixture after interacting with it.

Lemon juice should never be consumed directly as it may erode tooth enamel. It is best to dilute it with water and then drink it.

7 Easy Tips To Melt Fat And Lose Weight This Summer

It is important to remain hydrated during the summer months. One should drink at least 8 glasses of water every day. Water keeps you hydrated, increases metabolism, curbs hunger cravings and flushes out toxins.

One should include cooling, hydrating foods such as watermelon, cucumber, tomatoes and leafy greens in the diet. Such nutrient-dense options are low in calories but filled with fibre and help you feel fuller.

It is best to include lean protein sources like grilled chicken, fish, turkey and legumes in the diet. More energy is needed to digest such foods which increases metabolism and helps you feel satisfied between meals.

The addition of spicy ingredients like chilli peppers, ginger or cayenne pepper in meals helps temporarily boost metabolism and suppresses appetite.

It is best to stay away from heavy, high-calorie processed snacks and meals that are filled with unhealthy fats, added sugars and excess calories which hinder weight loss efforts.

Try intermittent fasting which will help trigger fat-burning mechanisms and reduce overall calorie intake.

7. Remain Active And Exercise Regularly

It is important to maintain a regular exercise routine and carry out activities like swimming, cycling or early morning/evening walks which help burn calories.

NASA's Indian-origin astronaut Sunita Williams along with the eight other crew members has landed in a new trouble on board the International Space Station (ISS).

NASA's Indian-origin astronaut Sunita Williams along with the eight other crew members has landed in a new trouble on board the International Space Station (ISS). A superbug has been detected inside the city in the International Space Station which is likely to become a problem for those currently inhabiting the orbiting station. A multi-drug resistant bacteria called 'Enterobacter bugandensis' has been found by scientists which has evolved and turned more potent in the ISS' closed environment. Also Read: Indian-origin astronaut Sunita Williams dances sprightly on arriving at Int’l Space Station Because it is multi-drug resistant, the bacteria is often called a "superbug". How can a 'superbug' trouble astronauts? The 'superbug' bacteria can prove troublesome for the astronauts as it can affect their respiratory system. Spacebugs are not extra-terrestrial life. These bugs travel like hidden co-passengers when the astronauts go to the ISS. The superbug was discovered by scientists in samples isolated from the International Space Station. In the study, they found 13 strains of the bacterium Enterobacter bugandensis, which is said to be multidrug resistant. “In a new scientific paper funded by an Ames Space Biology grant, Principal Investigator Dr Kasthuri Venkateswaran of NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory strains of Enterobacter bugandensis isolated from the International Space Station (ISS) were studied. Thirteen strains of E bugandensis, a bacterium notorious for being multi-drug resistant, were isolated from the ISS,” stated NASA in a report. NASA cited Senior Research Scientist at JPL Dr Kasthuri Venkateswaran in its report as saying, "Our research uncovers how certain benign microorganisms help to adapt and survive opportunistic human pathogen, E. bugandensis, in the unfavourable conditions of the International Space Station." Watch: Indian-origin astronaut Sunita Williams set for third space mission "The knowledge gained from this study would shed light on microbial behaviour, adaptation, and evolution in extreme, isolated environments that allow in designing novel countermeasure strategies to eradicate opportunistic pathogens, thus protecting the health of astronauts," he added. Williams along with her colleague Astronaut Barry Eugene "Butch" Wilmore boarded the new Boeing Starliner spacecraft on June 6 and is set to spend nearly a week in the low Earth orbiting laboratory before coming back to Earth.
