New FLiRT Covid Variant in US: 5 Points to Know 

Data from the CDC revealed the emergence of a new set of COVID-19 variants - KP.2 and KP.1.1 - dubbed FLiRT, through wastewater surveillance.

Variant KP.2, from April 14 to April 27, constituted 25 per cent of cases in the US. Meanwhile, the KP.1.1 FLiRT variant constituted 22 per cent of Covid cases in the US in the two-week period.

Experts reportedly warned about the concerning features of FLiRT variants, particularly changes in the spike protein.

Symptoms include that of JN.1, which are fever, cough, sore throat, congestion or runny nose, brain fog, loss of taste, among others.

CDC is monitoring the situation and reports quoting the agency said that there are "no current indicators" that KP.2 is worse than other Covid strains.

<p>In a big win for the INDIA alliance ahead of the Delhi Lok Sabha election voting, India's Supreme Court on Friday (May 10) granted interim bail to Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal till June 1.</p>

<p>The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader was arrested and jailed in connection with the liquor excise policy case.</p>

<p>"We are passing an interim order...giving him interim bail till June 1," the apex court reportedly said giving relief to the Delhi CM who has been running the capital from behind bars since March 21.&nbsp;</p>

<p>In its order, SC further asked Kejriwal to surrender and go back to jail on June 2.</p>

<p>This key development comes as a huge respite for the AAP as Delhi High Court last month refused to give bail to the Delhi chief minister.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The court also approved Kejriwal's campaign for the elections after his release from jail.</p>

<p>The study, led by Rebecca Hoehn, a researcher from Duke University, found that these chemicals, present in car cabin air, significantly endanger the health of individuals spending prolonged periods in vehicles.</p>

<p>The study, which examined air samples from 101 cars manufactured in 2015 or later, revealed that nearly&nbsp;99 per cent of samples contained flame retardants deemed carcinogenic or potentially carcinogenic by government standards. Among these chemicals, 1-chloro-isopropyl phosphate, identified as a potential carcinogen by the US National Toxicology Program, was prevalent in virtually all samples.</p>

This has added fuel to the already fiery political debate between the ruling Trinamool and the BJP, particularly heightened amid the ongoing election fervour.</p>

<p>Sandeshkhali in North 24 Parganas gained notoriety early this year when residents accused TMC's Sheikh Shahjahan and his associates of harassment. Shahjahan, expelled from Trinamool, was subsequently apprehended by the CBI after being on the run following a mob attack on Enforcement Directorate officials.</p>

<p>This comes as the Trinamool Congress filed a complaint with the Election Commission against several BJP leaders, including Suvendu Adhikari, alleging the dissemination of fabricated claims in the Sandeshkhali controversy.</p>

<p>The woman reportedly disclosed that during the visit of the National Commission for Women to the island, a person named Piyali prompted them to voice their grievances by filing a complaint.</p>

<p>"I told them that we had not received money as part of the 100 days' job scheme. I only wanted that money and had no other complaint. No rape happened. She (Piyali) made us sign on a blank sheet," the woman said. According to her, she later came to know that she is on the list of women who alleged rape by local Trinamool leaders.</p>
