Thousands of Iranians chanted "Death to America" near the old US&nbsp;embassy on Monday, the 40th anniversary on the seizure of the mission, with the country's army chief comparing the United States with a poisonous scorpion intent on harming Iran.

State television showed crowds packing the streets around the former mission, dubbed the "den of spies" after Iran's 1979 Islamic revolution. Marches and rallies were being held in some 1,000 communities across the country, state media said.

Hardline Islamist students stormed the embassy soon after the fall of the US-backed shah, and 52 Americans were held hostage there for 444 days. The two countries have been enemies ever since.

"Our fight with America is over our independence, over not submitting to bullying, over values, beliefs and our religion," army chief Major General Abdolrahim Mousavi said in a speech at the rally outside the former embassy.

"They (Americans) will continue their hostilities, like the proverbial poisonous scorpion whose nature it is to sting and cannot be stopped unless it is crushed," Mousavi said in remarks carried by state TV.

On Sunday, Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei renewed a ban on talks with the United States, describing the two countries as implacable foes.

"Those who believe that negotiations with the enemy will solve our problems are 100 percent&nbsp;wrong," he said.

Meanwhile, Iran's parliament gave initial approval to a measure requiring schoolbooks to inform students about "America's crimes". Lawmakers also chanted "Death to America".

Relations between the two countries have reached a crisis over the past year since US&nbsp;President Donald Trump abandoned a 2015 pact between Iran and world powers under which it accepted curbs to its nuclear programme in return for lifting sanctions.

The United States has reimposed sanctions aimed at halting all Iranian oil exports, saying it seeks to force it to negotiate to reach a wider deal.

Khamenei has banned Iranian officials from holding talks unless the United States returns to the nuclear deal and lifts all sanctions.

An Indian construction worker died while being taken hostage with several compatriots by insurgents in Myanmar's conflict-scarred Rakhine state, rebels and the government said Monday.

The Arakan Army (AA) have changed tactics in recent weeks in their increasingly vicious battle with Myanmar troops,&nbsp;taking mass hostages along rivers and roads in the large western state.

But it is the first time they have captured foreign workers in the resource-rich area, which hosts a series of infrastructure projects linking India and Myanmar.

Ten people,&nbsp;including five Indians and a lawmaker from leader Aung San Suu Kyi's National League for Democracy,&nbsp;were seized by AA fighters on Sunday in the northern part of the state.

The rebels confirmed the 60-year-old worker's death as the group were marched up a hill.

"Unfortunately he suddenly died from exhaustion... we did not do anything to him," AA spokesman Khaing Thukha told AFP.

"We did not target the Indians," he said, but rather the MP.

The rest of the group were released but the MP was held for questioning, said Soe Htet, a government official from the lawmaker's constituency in nearby Chin state, adding the body of the dead man was also sent back.

The AA, which is fighting for greater autonomy for ethnic Rakhine Buddhists, has previously carried out ambushes, assassinations, and bomb attacks.

But it has resorted to daring abductions of security forces in recent weeks.

A number of hostages seized by ethnic Rakhine rebels in a raid on a ferry packed with scores of police and soldiers were killed last month.

The rebels said they were killed by the military while in pursuit, but the army denied they were responsible and blamed the AA.

Rakhine is the same area where the military drove out more than 740,000 Rohingya Muslims in a 2017 campaign U.N. investigators have called genocide.

Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Maryam Nawaz was on Monday granted bail in Chaudhry Sugar Mills (CSM) case by the Lahore High Court (LHC). 
 
In the hearing held on October 31, a two-member bench of the High Court had reserved its verdict after all parties had concluded their arguments in the money laundering case, Dawn reported. 
 
Maryam and her cousin were apprehended by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB), Pakistan's accountability bureau.

A NAB special court had remanded them to judicial custody on September 25.

Tennis giant Rafael Nadal once again became the number one ranked tennis player after he dethroned his rival Novak Djokovic. The Serbian could not hold the top spot despite winning his fifth&nbsp;Paris Masters title on Sunday.&nbsp;

Both Nadal and Djokovic had a phenomenal run this season with both superstars winning two grand slams apiece. On one hand, Nadal claimed&nbsp;French and US Opens, while Djokovic triumphed in the Australian Open and Wimbledon.&nbsp;

The 33-year-old became the second-oldest player in the ATP Rankings history to reach atop since 1973. This is the eighth time Nadal became number 1 in ATP rankings and his previous stint ended exactly the same day one year ago.&nbsp;

Later Sunday, Everton confirmed the 26-year-old former Barcelona star Gomes had broken his right ankle and will undergo surgery on Monday.

"Everton Football Club can confirm Andre Gomes will undergo surgery after sustaining an ankle injury in today's game with Tottenham Hotspur," the Merseysiders said in a statement.

"After undergoing hospital tests, it was confirmed he had suffered a fracture-dislocation to his right ankle. The club will provide further updates in due course."

Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino said&nbsp;his club had the utmost sympathy for Gomes.

"We feel very sorry," he said. "Was a really bad situation, very bad luck how he landed in the action.

"We can only send our best wishes and (we are) devastated for the situation."

However,&nbsp;Pochettino believed the red card shown to Son was harsh, particularly as referee Martin Atkinson had first produced a yellow card prior to seeing Gomes's injury.

"I cannot agree with the red card of Sonny," added&nbsp;Pochettino.

"VAR must help the referee, I don't know what is going on and what happens with this tool. Rather than help the referee it is creating more confusion."

Both managers were left frustrated at the use of VAR as both sides saw a strong penalty claim turned down in the second half despite a lengthy delay to review the incidents.

"Burger King is going with a national franchise instead of regional ones, and that gives them more control and potentially better growth," Technopak Chairman Arvind Singhal said.

The company plans to use 2.9 billion rupees of the money raised to open new restaurants, according to the company's IPO papers.

The issue includes an offer for sale of up to 60 million equity shares by QSR Asia PTE, which owns 99 per cent&nbsp;of the Indian entity. The company did not disclose pricing details.

Private equity firm Everstone Capital, which operates Burger King India, is considering a private placement of shares worth 1.5 billion rupees ahead of the IPO, according to the draft red herring prospectus.
