French President Emmanuel Macron on Thursday (Apr 25) warned that today's Europe "could die" calling for stronger, more integrated European defences.

Stating that the continent was facing an existential threat from Russian aggression, Macron outlined his long-term vision for Europe involving less dependency on the United States.

He then dubbed Moscow's invasion of Ukraine as "uninhibited" saying that it wasn't clear as to where Russia's "limits" lay.

"Our Europe, today, is mortal and it can die," he said.

"It can die and this depends only on our choices," Macron said, warning that Europe was "not armed against the risks we face" in a world where the "rules of the game have changed".

"Over the next decade... there is an immense risk of (Europe) being weakened or even relegated," he added, also pointing to the risk of Iran obtaining a nuclear weapon.&nbsp;

He said he stood by his comments, which he said were a policy of "strategic ambiguity".

"Do we have limits in ensuring the security of Europeans? No," he added.

The French president called on Europe to be more self-reliant saying that it should bring about a change as in the past, the continent was over-dependent on Moscow for energy and Washington for security.

He said the required "sine qua non" for European security was "that Russia does not win the war of aggression in Ukraine".

"We need to build this strategic concept of a credible European defence for ourselves," Macron said, adding Europe could not be "a vassal" of the United States.&nbsp;

Henry's former finance minister, Michel Patrick Boisvert, will now take over as the interim prime minister.

"Today is an important day in the life of our dear republic, this day in effect opens a view to a solution... to the multidimensional crises the country faces," Boisvert said after the formal swearing-in of the nine-person transitional council on Thursday morning.

Henry made an official announcement in March declaring that he would step down once the council was in place.

He left Haiti in the month of February in order to seek international help for police in their fight with armed gangs.

However, he was left stranded outside the country as the gangs threatened to take over the capital.

The transitional government's mandate runs until February 2026.

The White House on Thursday (Apr 25) welcomed the announcement stating that the transitional council taking over exhibited a significant step towards fair polls.

Diego Da Rin, an analyst with the International Crisis Group said that even with the recent development, the country would have to go a long way to ensure free elections as there was a rift within the council, with different factions competing for power.

"Despite the installation, there is still a long and rocky road ahead for the council to be able to forge a government," Da Rin said.

"Crucially, the council now needs to vote for one of the nine members to head the body. Then, in time, it must appoint a new non-interim prime minister, a new cabinet, a truth and reconciliation commission and a provisional electoral commission."&nbsp;

The commission gave the platform a deadline of Wednesday demanding TikTok to provide more information along with any defence against the threatened suspension.

Breton released a statement saying that "our cases against TikTok on the risk of addictiveness of the platform continue".

"We suspect that this (rewards) feature could generate addiction and that TikTok did not do a diligent risk assessment and take effective mitigation measures prior to its launch," he said.

The investigation is the European Union's second against the short-form video platform under a new law, the Digital Services Act (DSA), which makes it mandatory for digital firms operating in the 27 EU member countries to police online content effectively.

In February, the commission launched a formal investigation into TikTok over apparent violations of its commitments towards safeguarding minors online.

In the 15-member Security Council, 13 member countries voted in favour, China abstained from voting and Russia opposed the resolution. The resolution is likely to have appealed to all the countries not to develop and deploy nuclear arms or any weapons of mass destruction in space, which is banned under a 1967 international treaty which includes the US and Russia. The nations would also have been asked to agree to the requirement to verify compliance. Vida was the most visibly injured and the pictures of the horse running through London soaked in blood were horrifying. Vida was operated on overnight and is currently in stables at the Hyde Park Barracks under observation." “Quaker was also operated on overnight but it was decided to move the horse to an equine hospital in the early hours for more specialist treatment. The extent of the injuries is not completely clear but we don’t believe at this stage there are any broken bones. The blood seen on Vida was consistent with lacerations,” the army added. Reports suggest four personnel fell from their horses, and the horses slammed into vehicles. Some of the personnel were taken to the hospital for treatment for injuries. The Army stated, "All three soldiers involved are expected to recover fully and to return to duty."
