On Tuesday alone, the National Weather Service said it received 23 tornado reports, with most in Iowa and one each in Wisconsin and Minnesota.

At least 5 killed, 35 injured as tornado wreaks havoc in Iowa

Israel on Thursday (May 23) warned that its ties with countries recognising a Palestinian state will face "serious consequences". This comes as Ireland, Norway and Spain prepare to recognise it from next week.&nbsp;

"There will be additional serious consequences for relations with their countries following the decision they made," said Jacob Blitstein, a top official, in a statement released by Israel's foreign ministry.

"Thank you everyone for your help and concern, I wish you all the best... there is not much more that I can say," Zhang said.

It was unclear who filmed the video, with RSF saying it was released "via an intermediary".

He said the settlement involved the families of 17 of the children who were killed and two children who survived.

Under the settlement, families agreed not to sue the city, Koskoff said. But families would sue the state of Texas and the federal government over the response of their law enforcement officers to the massacre, he added.

State and federal officers made up the majority of the 376 law enforcement operatives who waited 77 minutes before confronting and killing the 18-year-old gunman, Koskoff said.

Families of the victims filed a lawsuit in December 2022 against local and state police, the city, and other school and law enforcement officials seeking at least $27 billion and class-action status for survivors over delays in confronting the attacker.

"By joining the two organisations together we are all working towards getting President Trump re-elected and increasing our majority in the House and the Senate," he said.

Lara Trump explained that both party and campaign staff are now working together on daily tasks. Critics worry this focus on the presidential race might neglect state and local elections, but Lara Trump dismissed these concerns, saying their goal is to support candidates at all levels.

“It would be very silly of me to assume that only having the presidency would achieve the goals of the Republican Party,” she said adding, “We need majorities in Congress, and that’s our goal.”

<h2>Taking centre stage</h2>

Unlike some previous co-chairs, Lara Trump is very public, doing TV interviews and speaking on right-wing media to support her father-in-law's re-election.

This public role hasn't been without mistakes; for example, she wrongly said on Newsmax that the RNC had filed lawsuits in “81 states.” Lara Trump admitted there is a lot to learn but stressed her political experience from working on Trump’s past campaigns.

“You’d be hard pressed&nbsp;to find someone with as much political experience as I have in any campaign right now," she said.

Lara Trump has greatly improved the RNC’s fundraising. In April, the committee raised $76 million, after $65.6 million in March, compared to just $10.6 million in February. This increase is partly due to new donation limits after Trump became the presumptive nominee.

By contrast, the Democratic National Committee raised $51 million in April, down from $72 million in March. The RNC’s fundraising is important because Trump is spending campaign funds on legal fees due to various criminal charges. His organisations have spent over $76.7 million on legal fees in the last two years.

When asked whether Joe Biden or Trump would do a better job on national security issues, she replied, “Donald Trump has not been perfect in foreign policies but Joe Biden has been a catastrophe. So I will be voting for Trump.”

Nikki Haley, a former UN ambassador and South Carolina governor, outlined her criteria for choosing a president, backing allies, punishing enemies, promoting capitalism and freedom, and reducing the national debt.

Haley further added, “Having said that, I stand by what I said in my suspension speech on March 6, it is now up to Trump to earn the votes of those in our party who did not support him, and I hope he does."

“Earlier today I spoke with His Majesty the King to request the dissolution of parliament. The king has granted this request and we will have a general election on July 4,” said Sunak standing outside Downing Street in pouring rain.&nbsp;

The country has seen the most challenging times since World War II with the COVID-19 pandemic and the Russian invasion of Ukraine, said the UK PM during his speech, adding that Britain has fought through those challenges.&nbsp;

“Now is the moment for Britain to choose its future,” said Sunak describing that choice as one between stability with him and the unknown with Labour leader Keir Starmer, who will attempt to take power for his party after 14 years of Conservative-led government.

“Over the next few weeks, I will fight for every vote, I will earn your trust and I will prove to you that only a Conservative government led by me will not put our hard earned economic stability at risk,” said Sunak who will compete against Starmer in the upcoming elections.&nbsp;

The UK PM said that his government has a clear plan and is prepared to take bold action. He also went on to criticise the opposition and said, “I don't know what they offer – and in truth, I don’t think you do either.”

Starmer always took the “easy way out” and had no plan, said Sunak, adding that “as a result, the future can only be uncertain with them.”

A Kenyan climber who went missing&nbsp;close to Mount Everest's peak has been found dead. On Wednesday (May 22), 40-year-old Joshua Cheruiyot Kirui and his 44-year-old Nepali guide Nawang Sherpa went missing when Kirui was attempting to become the first African to ascend Mount Everest without the use of oxygen.

Kirui's death on Everest is the fourth reported fatality this week. A Romanian climber, a British climber and his Nepalese guide were discovered dead on Tuesday.

A local tourist official told the AFP news agency that the search team that had been sent to find the two had not yet located the guide. Even for seasoned climbers, scaling the world's tallest mountain, Everest is regarded as exceedingly dangerous and challenging.

According to the Himalayan Times, Sherpa notified the base camp that Kirui had exhibited "abnormal behaviour" and had "refused to return and even consume bottled oxygen". Base camp authorities informed the newspaper that contact with the two was lost soon after the message. According to Kipkemoi Limo, a close climbing companion of Kirui's, he passed away after a fall.

Before his ascent, Kirui told the BBC last week that he had done considerable physical training.

Kirui had said that he was sure he could climb Everest without using more oxygen. But in case he had any problems, he told&nbsp;the BBC that&nbsp;Sherpa would offer emergency oxygen assistance and that he had emergency evacuation cover.

Kirui worked for one of Kenya's largest banks as a banker.

The community of Kenyan mountain climbers was shocked to learn of his passing. "Our brother now rests on the mountain. It's been a long night," fellow Kenyan mountaineer James Muhia, who had been sharing regular updates about Kirui's attempt, said on X.

On Wednesday (May 22), 40-year-old Joshua Cheruiyot Kirui and his 44-year-old Nepali guide Nawang Sherpa went missing when Kirui was attempting to become the first African to ascend Mount Everest without the use of oxygen. Kirui's death on Everest is the fourth reported fatality this week. A Romanian climber, a British climber and his Nepalese guide were discovered dead on Tuesday. A local tourist official told the AFP news agency that the search team that had been sent to find the two had not yet located the guide. Even for seasoned climbers, scaling the world's tallest mountain, Everest is regarded as exceedingly dangerous and challenging. According to the Himalayan Times, Sherpa notified the base camp that Kirui had exhibited "abnormal behaviour" and had "refused to return and even consume bottled oxygen". Base camp authorities informed the newspaper that contact with the two was lost soon after the message. According to Kipkemoi Limo, a close climbing companion of Kirui's, he passed away after a fall. But in case he had any problems, he told the BBC that Sherpa would offer emergency oxygen assistance and that he had emergency evacuation cover. Kirui worked for one of Kenya's largest banks as a banker. The community of Kenyan mountain climbers was shocked to learn of his passing. "Our brother now rests on the mountain. He also said two missiles had hit the printworks' premises, with one landing nearby.&nbsp;

Kharkiv city mayor claimed that 15 missiles had been used in the attack, based on preliminary information.&nbsp;

The missile attack also injured seven people in the Kharkiv district, the governor said.&nbsp;

Gupta, who at present is locked up in a Prague prison, is indicted by the US for plotting to kill Pannun.&nbsp;

"The Constitutional Court did not find any circumstance for which declaring extradition admissible would lead to a violation of any of the constitutionally guaranteed fundamental rights and freedoms," the court said on Wednesday (May 22).

It ruled that lower courts had adequately taken into account the factors that may prevent extradition.&nbsp;

It also repudiated arguments claiming the case was political.

"For the complainant, this brings the proceedings before the Czech courts to an end."

The top Czech court, upholding the Municipal Court and The High Court's order, stated that it has approved the decision of the general courts concerning the admissibility of extradition.

The court also kept the local court's ruling to reject Gupta’s appeal requesting release from pre-trial detention.

It declined to accept compensation for detention in the form of a monetary guarantee or ban on travel abroad.

Gupta had claimed that the courts did not review all the important events that could turn into an obstruction to extradition, as per the statement.

This comes after the US reiterated its stance on seeking accountability from the Indian government about the ongoing investigation into the murder plot of Pannun.&nbsp;

Addressing a briefing at the White House on April 30, State Department's Principal Deputy spokesperson Vedant Patel said that there is an ongoing dialogue and that the US expects accountability from the Indian authorities.

"So we continue to expect accountability from the Government of India based on the results of the Indian inquiry committee's work, and we are regularly working with them and inquiring for additional updates," Patel said on being asked about a report by The Washington Post which named an Indian Research and Analysis Wing (RAW) official as being involved in the alleged plot.

"We'll also continue to raise our concerns directly with the Indian government at senior levels...," Patel added.&nbsp;

The claims made in the Washington Post report were dismissed by New Delhi. Indian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said last week that the report was "speculative and irresponsible".

"The report in question makes unwarranted and unsubstantiated imputations on a serious matter. There is an ongoing investigation of the High-Level Committee set up by the Government of India to look into the security concerns shared by the US government on networks of organised criminals, terrorists and others," Jaiswal said.

"Speculative and irresponsible comments on it are not helpful," he added.&nbsp;
