<p>An India Mauritius space portal that will provide value added services is also under works. India's support to the country comes even as it has reached out to other countries for space capacity building, including countries&nbsp;like Bhutan.</p>

<p>During EAM's visit, 12 India assisted projects in the field of education, healthcare,&nbsp;public amenities and&nbsp;sports were virtually inaugurated. Eight&nbsp;more such facilities will be inaugurated in the next two months in Rodrigues and Agalega. The Indian minister also visited the site of the Civil Service College project in Réduit and complimented the Indian workers who are playing a key role in building it.</p>

<p>Meanwhile, India has extended support to Mauritius on the Chagos island issue. EAM Jaishankar said, " I would like to again assure you today that on the issue of Chagos, India will continue its consistent support to Mauritius in line with its principal stand on decolonization and support for sovereignty and territorial integrity of nations."</p>

<p>The Mauritius PM thanked EAM Jaishankar for Delhi's support on the issue.</p>

<p>One of the sources told NBC that someone&nbsp;should have been on the roof or securing the building so no one could get on the roof. Earlier, Secret Service spokesperson&nbsp;Anthony Guglielmi said that the agency worked&nbsp;with local law enforcement to maintain event security.</p>

<p>The United States averaged one mass shooting per day in 2024 and will break over 500 mass shootings for the fifth year in a row, as per the Gun Violence Archive (GVA).&nbsp;</p>

<p>As of July 2, the natural midpoint of the year, 277 people were killed and 1,132 people were injured owing to mass shootings in the country.&nbsp;</p>

<p>While these numbers are shocking enough, what is horrific is that mass shootings account for just a fraction of all gun violence-related deaths in the US.&nbsp;</p>

<p>As of July 2, more than 8,000 people had died due to homicides, murders, defensive gun use, and unintentional shootings involving firearms.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The Second Amendment to the Bill of Rights gave Americans the right to ‘keep and bear arms’ and form a ‘well-organised militia.’</p>

<p>This right, which has been enshrined in the Constitution since 1791, has become a constant point of debate amongst the gun lobby and those demanding a ban on gun ownership.&nbsp;</p>

<p>While the reasons and context for America giving its citizens the right to own guns were different back in the day, it has now become the source of much discontent amongst the American public.&nbsp;</p>

<p>‘Open carry’ or the unconcealed carrying of firearms is allowed in the country, even without licenses in some states.</p>

<p>Parades are regularly arranged in which hundreds of people openly bear arms in broad public view.</p>

<p>Is the line between open-carrying guns and teenagers gunning down a classroom of children this fine?&nbsp;</p>

<p>That’s something for American lawmakers and citizens to ponder on.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The National Rifle Association has supported Trump throughout his campaign, with the former President designating gun shops as ‘essential businesses’ during the COVID-19 pandemic and, in turn, allowing them to stay open.&nbsp;</p>

<p>“No one will lay a finger on your firearms,” Trump has promised time and time again.&nbsp;</p>

<p>While 'red states’ tend to have loser gun laws when compared to ‘blue’ ones, the track record of the Democrat Joe Biden administration is no better.&nbsp;</p>

<p>According to the Gun Violence Archive (GVA), there were 5,000 more fatal shootings in Biden’s first year in power when compared to Trump’s first year as president.</p>

<p>Barack Obama, one of America’s strongest critics of gun violence and a former president, did not fare too well either. In 2014, 33,599 people were killed by guns in the country. While Obama brought in laws and turned to technology like ‘smart guns,’ violence continued throughout his tenure.&nbsp;</p>

<h2><strong>Why is America so trigger-happy?&nbsp;</strong></h2>

<p>The US has become infamous throughout the world as being the most trigger-friendly nation. Recently, images of vending machines openly selling bullets by the bucket-load went viral, signalling that the crisis has become an integral part of American business.&nbsp;</p>

<p>There are now more guns than people in the country. While gun violence is prevalent in other nations like the UK and India, it is not so fatal, does not have this level of public approval, and does not enjoy tacit political backing.&nbsp;</p>

<p>In a country whose former (and now most likely the next) president openly supports gun ownership, the final shot has already been fired.</p>

<p>Only this time, American society is bleeding.</p>

<p>A video shared on social media showed the Russian president surrounded by a total of seven security guards reportedly on the M-11 highway, which connects Moscow and St Petersburg.&nbsp;</p>

Menendez earlier pleaded not guilty to 16 federal charges, including bribery, fraud, acting as a foreign agent and obstruction.</p>

<p>Majority Leader Sen. Chuck Schumer called for his resignation immediately after the verdict.</p>

<p>"In light of this guilty verdict, Senator Menendez must now do what is right for his constituents, the Senate, and our country, and resign," he said.</p>

<h2><strong>Allegations against Menendez</strong></h2>

<p>Federal prosecutors alleged that Menendez used his position as the former Senate Foreign Relations Committee chairman to help one businessman hammer out a contract with Egyptian officials.</p>

<p>They also alleged that being a senior senator in New Jersey, he helped one accomplice accused in an insurance fraud case escape investigation.</p>

<p>According to prosecutors, another New Jersey businessman Jose Uribe paid $15,000 in cash to Menendez's wife Nadine in the spring of 2019. She used the money as down payment for the luxury car that the duo bought.</p>

<p>She texted Menendez, "Congratulations. We are the proud owners of a 2019 Mercedes," according to prosecutors.</p>

<p>Menendez's has also pleaded not guilty to the charges&nbsp;that are due to be tried separately.</p>

<h2><strong>FBI raid</strong></h2>

<p>In June 2022, USA's federal investigative agency FBI raided Menendez's house and found 13 gold bars, nearly half a million dollars in cash and the convertible Mercedes-Benz.</p>

<p>As per the agency, Hajipur city, which is known for its agricultural production, is writing its own story by manufacturing safety shoes for the Russian army.&nbsp;</p>

<p>ANI reported that Hajipur-based Competence Exports, a private limited company, makes safety shoes for companies based in Russia and designer shoes catering to European markets.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"Total exports are for Russia, and we are also slowly working on Europe and will launch in the domestic market soon," Roy added.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"Their requirements are that shoes should be lightweight, slip-resistant, have special features in the sole, and withstand extreme weather conditions like -40 degrees Celsius. We manufacture the safety shoes, considering these conditions," Roy said as he talked about safety shoe requirements for the Russian army.&nbsp;</p>
