Panic, chaos as home security, solar energy systems explode in Lebanon after pagers, walkie-talkies

Reports citing Hezbollah sources have claimed that walkie-talkies have blown up at strongholds across the Lebanon capital city of Beirut, a day after similar explosions occurred in pagers being used by the fighters and medics linked to the militant organisation.

Media reports said "thousands of&nbsp;walkie-talkies" blew up, killing at least 14 people and injuring 450 others.

"The wave of enemy explosions that targeted walkie-talkies... killed 14 people and wounded more than 450," the Lebanese health ministry said in a statement.

Lebanon's Red Cross took to&nbsp;X and said that it was responding with 30 ambulance teams to multiple explosions in different areas, including the south of Lebanon and the Bekaa Valley.

The walkie-talkies that exploded Wednesday showed they were made in Japan and were labelled ICOM, Reuters confirmed.

According to its website, ICOM is a Japan-based radio communications and telephone company.

The company said it had discontinued producing the IC-V82 models of the walkie-talkies, which appeared closely resembling those that exploded in Lebanon.

These devices were purchased five months ago, the same time when pagers were allegedly acquired from a European firm.

The resolution demanded, "Israel brings to an end without delay its unlawful presence in the Occupied Palestinian Territory, which constitutes a wrongful act of a continuing character entailing its international responsibility, and do so no later than 12 months from the adoption of the present resolution.”

Moreover, the resolution welcomes a July advisory opinion by the International Court of Justice, which stated Israel's occupation of Palestinian authorities and settlements is illegal and should be withdrawn.

As per a report by The New York Times, the pagers of Hezbollah were probably compromised during the joint operation between the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) and Israel's intelligence agency Mossad.

However, some experts argue that modern consumer devices like pagers contain lithium-ion batteries which can explode or catch on fire if they turn too hot or are brought in contact with metals. But considering the scale of the explosion, it appeared highly unlikely that it was caused by just the battery.&nbsp;

Speaking to reporters, Gold Apollo founder and chairperson Hsu Ching-kuang said that a contract was signed by his firm with a European distributor - Budapest-based BAC Consulting KFT - for using the Gold Apollo brand.&nbsp;&nbsp;

He added that the contract was signed with the distributor nearly three years ago.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Initially, the Gold Apollo’s other pager and communication products were only imported by the European company.

However, later the company informed Gold Apollo that they wished to create their own pager and asked for the right to use the brand of the Taiwanese company. &nbsp;

He continued that Israel 'willfully' intended to kill thousands of people.&nbsp;

Israel started its attack by targeting paging devices, knowing that there were more than 4,000 of them in use, he claimed. Nasrallah alleged that these devices were donated and Israel tried to kill 4000 people simultaneously as well as those in their vicinity.&nbsp;

The Hezbollah chief said the group has been dealt a “very hard” blow, describing the attacks as “unprecedented” in Lebanon.&nbsp;

Nasrallah also blamed the United States and said that his group knows that Israel has a technological edge as it is backed by Washington&nbsp;and other tech superpowers.&nbsp;

“We cannot be broken by this blow, no matter how big or strong it is. And I can assure you faithfully and with confidence, this hard, unprecedented blow did not bring us to our knees – and it will not,” he said.&nbsp;

He promised&nbsp;that the group would become more robust, the Hezbollah leader said, “These are lessons to learn.”

Japan’s foreign minister, Yoko Kamikawa, described the incident as “despicable”. She said Japan’s government had demanded that Chinese authorities “make every possible effort” to ensure the safety of Japanese nationals in China and release a detailed explanation of the stabbing.
