The man who was killed during the assassination attempt on former United States (US) president Donald Trump has been identified. According to Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro, the victim was Corey Comperatore- a former fire chief from Butler. He was aged 50 at the time of his death.

In a short while from now, President Joe Biden will deliver remarks on the assassination attempt on his election rival Donald Trump. 

President Joe Biden was receiving a briefing from the heads of the FBI and Secret Service on Sunday after Trump survived an assassination attempt. 

Twenty-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks, who on Sunday (July 14) opened fire on former United States (US) president Donald Trump during his re-election campaign rally in Pennsylvania, had explosives in his car, American media reported.

The father of Thomas Matthew Crooks reportedly said he is trying to figure out “what the hell is going on” as his son was identified as Trump’s attempted assassin.

Speaking to CNN, Matthew Crooks wouldn’t provide details about his son and wanted to “wait until I talk to law enforcement.”

Two law enforcement officials told the news agency Associated Press that the weapon used in the assassination attempt on Trump was bought the father of Thomas Matthew Crooks, who’s been identified as the shooter, at least six months ago.

The Secret Service collaborates with other federal, state, and local agencies to provide comprehensive protection to the former US presidents and their spouses. This includes the Secret Service Uniformed Division, the Metropolitan Police Department, and the US Park Police.

The US Secret Service has denied claims that it refused additional protection for Donald Trump ahead of his Pennsylvania campaign rally, where he was shot in the ear in an assassination attempt.

Publishing his second statement on Truth Social following the assassination attempt, Trump urged Americans to stand united.

“In this moment, it is more important than ever that we stand united, and show our true character as Americans, remaining strong and determined,” he said. 

The White House said on Saturday that President Biden spoke to Trump several hours after the Republican presidential hopeful survived an assassination attempt. 

The Biden campaign, meanwhile, said that it was pausing all messaging to supporters and working to pull down all of its television ads as quickly as possible in light of the shooting.

Italian sports journalist Marco Violi said he would take legal action after being falsely identified on social media as the suspected shooter in an assassination attempt against Trump. 

Police in the US said on Sunday that there was no reason to believe that a threat was ongoing following the assassination attempt on Trump. "We have no reason to believe that there is any other existing threat out there," Pennsylvania State Police Lieutenant Colonel George Bivens told reporters.

Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) officials have admitted that they were 'surprised' at how the gunman, identified as Thomas Crooks, managed to take multiple shots at Donald Trump during a rally in Pennsylvania on Saturday (Jul 13).

NATO chief Stoltenberg 'shocked' by assassination attempt on Trump. He posted: "I am shocked by the attempted assassination on former President Trump. I wish him a speedy recovery and my thoughts are with those affected. I condemn this attack. Political violence has no place in our democracies.  #NATO Allies stand together to defend our freedom & values."

Poland's President Andrzej Duda said the attempted assassination of Donald Trump was a "moment of shock".

"I was saddened to hear that the bullets fired by the gunman hit some of the participants of Donald Trump’s campaign rally. My prayers are with the Loved Ones and Friends of the victims of the attack," posted Duda. 

Xi Jinping's spokesman said the Chinese president expressed his "compassion and sympathy" to Donald Trump on Sunday (Jul 14) after the failed assassination bid. \

"China is closely following the situation surrounding the shooting of former President Donald Trump," a Chinese foreign ministry spokesman added in a statement.

Multiple US media outlets have conducted their independent analysis into the geography of the rally venue. A BBC inquiry revealed that there was a distance of around 130 metres between where the shooter was on the roof and Trump giving the speech on the podium.

Donald Trump's daughter, Ivanka Trump, shared a heartfelt message after the attack on former US president. 

“Thank you for your love and prayers for my father and for the other victims of today's senseless violence in Butler, Pennsylvania,” Ivanka wrote on X.

“I am grateful to the Secret Service and all the other law enforcement officers for their quick and decisive actions today. I continue to pray for our country,” she said, adding, “I love you Dad, today and always."

French President Emmanuel Macron reacted on the assassination bid against former US president Donald Trump by calling it 'a tragedy for our democracies', 

European Union (EU) chief Ursula von der Leyen said she was 'deeply shocked' by the events in Pennsylvania where Donald Trump narrowly escaped an assassination attempt. 

"I am deeply shocked by the shooting that took place during former President Trump's campaign rally," wrote the EU president on X. 

FBI has identified 20-year-old Thomas Crooks as the shooter who attempted to kill former president Donald Trump in Pennsylvania on Saturday (Jul 13). 

Crooks was a resident of Bethel Park, a village about 55 miles south of the shooting scene in Butler.

He was registered to vote as a Republican. But records show that his one known political donation, for $15 in 2021, was to Act Blue, a group that supports Democratic candidates.

Hours after the failed assassination bid, Donald Trump landed in New Jersey at Newark Liberty International Airport. Video posted by an aide showed the former president deplaning, flanked by US Secret Service agents and heavily armed members of the agency’s counter assault team.

House Oversight Commitee Chairman James Comer has formally asked Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle to appear for a hearing on July 22, according to a letter the committee posted to X.

"The tremendous bravery of the individual United States Secret Service agents who protected President Trump, eliminated the gunman, and possibly averted more loss of life cannot be overstated," Comer, R-Ky., wrote in a letter to Cheatle.

According to a report in NY Post, the gunman who attempted to assassinate former President Donald Trump Saturday was identified as 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks. Crooks, of Bethel Park, fired the shots - one of which grazed Trump in the ear, at an outdoor rally in Butler, just outside Pittsburgh.

Republican leader Anna Paulina Luna took to X to inform that the Secret Service had responded to the House Oversight Committee. 

"Secret Service has responded to @GOPoversight and will be briefing us ASAP. We have also notified Secret Service that we will be holding an emergency hearing ASAP to uncover what transpired at President Trump’s rally. The Secret Service Director is being called to testify. Date will be announced soon," said Luna. 

"I don't know how he would have gotten to the location where he was, but he was outside the grounds. And I think that's something that we're going to have to figure out how he got there," Butler County district attorney Richard Goldinger was quoted as saying by the news agency AFP.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi posted a message on X (formerly Twitter), expressing concerns over the shooting attempt on his 'friend'.  

Former US president Donald Trump departed a hospital n Butler County, Pennsylvania, hours after he appeared to be the target of an assassination attempt during a rally, according to a report in The Associated Press. 

President Joe Biden said he had been briefed about the assassination attempt on his rival, Donald Trump. 

"I’m grateful to hear that he’s safe and doing well. I’m praying for him and his family and for all those who were at the rally, as we await further information. Jill and I are grateful to the Secret Service for getting him to safety. There’s no place for this kind of violence in America. We must unite as one nation to condemn it," wrote Biden. 

Trump took to his Truth Social account to post: "I want to thank The United States Secret Service, and all of Law Enforcement, for their rapid response on the shooting that just took place in Butler, Pennsylvania. Most importantly, I want to extend my condolences to the family of the person at the Rally who was killed, and also to the family of another person that was badly injured. It is incredible that such an act can take place in our Country."

"Nothing is known at this time about the shooter, who is now dead. I was shot with a bullet that pierced the upper part of my right ear. I knew immediately that something was wrong in that I heard a whizzing sound, shots, and immediately felt the bullet ripping through the skin. Much bleeding took place, so I realized then what was happening. GOD BLESS AMERICA!"
