Prime Minister Narendra Modi has invited American chip maker Micron Technology to boost semiconductor manufacturing in India as the country provides competitive advantages in various parts of the product's supply chain.

He also invited Applied Materials to India for development of process technology and advanced packaging capabilities

Jubilations erupted among the Indian diaspora  outside Willard InterContinental, Washington DC, on Wednesday after Prime Minister Narendra Modi reached there.

He interacted with the Indian diaspora amid chants of 'Vande Mataram' (praise the motherland) and 'Bharat Mata Ki Jai' ('Long live mother India).

During his hectic meetings in Washington, PM Modi will be staying at the Willard InterContinental, also known as the Residence of Presidents’. It is one of the most famous hotels in America. During his previous visit in September 2021, Modi had stayed there.

Indian PM gifted a special sandalwood box to President Biden. The box has been handcrafted by a master craftsman from Jaipur, Rajasthan and the sandalwood sourced from Mysore, Karnataka. It has carved flora and fauna patterns. 

US President Joe Biden, First Lady Jill Biden and PM Modi enjoyed a musical tribute to the regions of India, performed by youth dancers from Studio Dhoom, a DMV-based Indian dance studio that helps connect a new generation to the vibrant culture of Indian dance, the White House said.

The White House in a statement said that the US President Joe Biden looks forward to presenting PM Modi with an antique American book galley from the early 20th Century. President Biden will also gift PM Modi a vintage American camera, accompanied by an archival facsimile print of George Eastman’s Patent of the first Kodak camera, and a hardcover book of American wildlife photography. Jill Biden will gift PM Modi a signed, first edition copy of Collected Poems of Robert Frost.

Indian PM Narendra Modi reached the White House Wednesday evening (local time), where he was welcomed by US President Joe Biden and First Lady Jill Biden. India's NSA Ajit Doval, Foreign Secretary Kwatra, Deputy Chief of Protocol Aseem Vohra are the officials accompanying the Indian leader ahead of the state dinner.

PM Modi is on the way to the White House, where he will be honoured with state dinner hosted by US President Joe Biden and the First Lady Jill Biden.

PM Modi continues to engage with people from different walks of life during his second leg of visit to US in Washington DC. PM Modi has met with CEO of Micron Technology Sanjay Mehrotra and CEO of General Electric H Lawrence Culp Jr so far in Washington DC ahead of the state dinner with POTUS and FLOTUS.
