In a rare statement, Melania Trump has criticised husband Donald Trump's political rival Joe Biden's administration over escalating living costs and what she describes as deliberate attempts to silence her husband.

The former first lady, who typically stays away from the press, has shared her concerns in a black-and-white video posted on social media on Sunday (Sep 8).

This followed a Thursday teaser for her upcoming memoir.

What did Melania Trump say?

In the video, Melania starts by saying,"The 2020 election results changed our lives forever. It impacted our quality of life, cost of food, gasoline, safety and even the geopolitical landscape."

She expressed deep concern over what she perceives as a nation more divided than ever and condemned the legal challenges her husband faces, labelling them an attack on free speech.

"It has become increasingly apparent that there are significant challenges to free speech as demonstrated by the efforts to silence my husband."

The video then cuts to an image of a blank white book titled simply "MELANIA."

At 54, Melania Trump remains a figure of intrigue. During her time in the White House, she focused primarily on raising her son, Barron, who is now studying at NYU’s Stern School of Business.

Despite Donald Trump's renewed campaign for the White House, Melania has kept a low profile. According to Daily Mail, she appeared at the Republican National Convention but did not address the audience and has yet to make an appearance at a campaign rally or debate.

Melania's memoir

This upcoming memoir, her first, offers a rare glimpse into her life. It promises to explore her journey from a Slovenian childhood to the fashion capitals of Europe and New York, culminating in her marriage to Donald Trump. The book reportedly reveals behind-the-scenes stories from her White House years.

In a recent interview with the publication, Donald Trump, while discussing Melania's role in his campaign, acknowledged her careful approach.

Trump noted that while she deeply cares about the country, the harsh political climate has made her cautious about stepping into the public eye. "She'll do whatever necessary. But my kids haven't been treated properly...She hasn't been treated properly," he said.
