With its first significant update to the social media network, Twitter formally released an update of its app on the Apple App Store on Saturday. The newly released update charges $8 for the highly coveted blue check verification mark.
According to Reuters, users of Apple iOS devices can now acquire the blue checkmark next to their usernames by paying $7.99 a month, which will qualify them for the verification mark "just like the celebrities, companies and politicians you already follow."

Mass layoffs at Elon Musk-owned Twitter has stroked fears of misinformation just before US midterm polls.
"I would be real careful on this platform in the coming days... about what you retweet, who you follow, and even your own sense of what's going on," said Kate Starbird, a disinformation researcher and assistant professor at the University of Washington.

According to a report by The New York Times, Twitter CEO Elon Musk is preparing to roll out a feature that would cost users money if they want to send direct messages to well-known public personalities on the network. This move is intended to create income for Twitter. This comes after Musk confessed that Twitter's income had decreased significantly. He tweeted, "Despite the fact that nothing has changed with content filtering and we done everything we could to placate the activists, Twitter has seen a large reduction in income as a result of activist organisations lobbying advertisers.
