Indian student found dead in Cincinnati, third such incident in a week in US

Another Indian student has been found dead inCincinnati, United States, and the cause of hisdeath remainsunknown. The student has been identified as Shreyas Reddy Benigeri. This marks the third instance of an Indian student's death in the US in a week's time.

The investigation into Benigeri's death is currently in progress, as stated by the Consulate General of India in New York. At this point, foul play is not suspected.

Previous deaths

Neel Acharya, an Indian student enrolled at Purdue University in the US, was found dead on Sunday (Jan 27), shortly after his mother reported him missing.

The Tippecanoe County Coroner's Office received a call about a potential deceased person at 500 Allison Road in West Lafayette around 11:30 am.

Upon arrival, they found the lifeless body of Neel Acharya, a student pursuing a double major in computer science and data science at Purdue University's John Martinson Honors College.

On Sunday, Neel's mother Gaury Acharya, had appealed in a post on X, "Our son Neel Acharya is missing since yesterday Jan 28 (12:30 AM EST) He is studying in Purdue University in the US. He was last seen by the Uber driver who dropped him off in Purdue University. We are looking for any info on him. Please help us if you know anything."

The Consulate General of India in Chicago replied to her post, saying, "Consulate is in touch with Purdue University authorities and also with Neel's family. Consulate will extend all possible support and help."

Last week in Lithonia, Georgia, a homeless man brutally killed another Indian student by repeatedly striking him with a hammer inside a store. While a video of the incident went viral on social media, the exact date remains unconfirmed. The assailant, known to frequent the store, was arrested based on visual evidence. The victim, Vivek Saini, had his body repatriated to his family in India on January 24.
