French authorities have detained a man suspected of trying to ram his car on soldiers in eastern France

Earlier, French authorities had launched a manhunt for the man who reportedly tried to drive a car into a group of solider in Varces-Allieres-et-Risset, near Grenoble in the eastern part of the country.

The soldiers were jogging at the time around 8am in the morning when the driver came from behind in an attempt to run over the men, the soldiers managed to get up to the pavement without being hit, reports said.

The driver sped off immediately. The police quickly sealed the area and launched a manhunt to nab the alleged assailant.

In April last year a policeman was shot while on duty on the Champs-Élysées in Paris.

Four months later, a man rammed his car into a group of soldiers on patrol in a Paris suburb of Levallois-Perret, injuring six people.
