<p>The Delhi High Court on Friday ordered the immediate release of Sushil Kumar Sharma who was convicted in the 1995 Tandoor Murder case.</p>

<p>The former youth Congress leader killed his wife in 1995 after accusing her of indulging in an affair. He then allegedly cut her body into pieces and tried to burn it in a tandoor.</p>

<p>Sharma was sentenced to death by a lower court in 2003. His death sentence was upheld by the Delhi High Court in 2007.&nbsp;</p>

<p>In 2013 the sentence was relegated due to lack of evidence. The apex court had said that there was no evidence to prove that Sushil had chopped his wife's body into pieces and burnt it in a tandoor.</p>

<p>A Bench of Justices Siddharth Mridul and Sangita Dhingra Sehgal allowed the plea filed by Sharma seeking his release.</p>

<p>Sharma who sought release from the jail cited his conduct and added that his death sentence was commuted by the Supreme Court because of lack of evidence.</p>

<p>His lawyer Amit Sahni had asked the court for the release and said Sharma was in the prison since 1995 and has already served the maximum prescribed sentence.</p>

<p>Nalapad was yesterday expelled for six years from the Congress, the ruling party in the state, in connection with the incident.</p>

<p>Chief Minister Siddaramaiah also condemned the incident and assured to take necessary action against the offenders.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Meanwhile, opposition Bharatiya Janata Party staged demonstration against Nalapad and Congress outside the police station.</p>

<p>As per media reports, the victim was having dinner at a restaurant in UB City when Nalapad and his friends walked in. The group told the victim, who had a plaster on one of his legs, to sit properly.</p>

<p>After a heated exchange, Nalapad and his friends allegedly attacked the victim and beat him up.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Later, he was rushed to the nearby Hospital for treatment, but the group followed him there and threatened him.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The police are probing the case.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The accused Congress leader is the son of Shantinagar MLA NA Haris. He was appointed the general secretary after emerging victorious in an election held by the Congress for the post in May 2017.&nbsp;</p>

<p>He was also the executive director of the Nalapad Group of Companies.</p>

<p>Meanwhile, Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah condemned the incident and promised to punish the offenders.</p>
