One of Bob Dylan’s most important early albums, “Bringing It All Back Home” from 1965, has the kind of cover that can strain eyes and fuel speculation. It is a photograph of Dylan, in a black jacket, sitting in a room full of bric-a-brac that may or may not mean something, staring into the camera as a woman in a red outfit lounges in the background.

“Fans became so fixated on deciphering it,” the music journalist Neil McCormick wrote in The Daily Telegraph of London last year, “that a rumor took hold that the woman was Dylan in drag, representing the feminine side of his psyche.”

She wasn’t. She was Sally Grossman, the wife of Dylan’s manager at the time, Albert Grossman.

“The photo was shot in Albert Grossman’s house,” the man who took it, Daniel Kramer, told The Guardian in 2016. “The room was the original kitchen of this house that’s a couple hundred years old.”

“Bob contributed to the picture the magazines he was reading and albums he was listening to,” Kramer added, a reference to the bric-a-brac. “Bob wanted Sally to be in the photo because, well, look at her! She chose the red outfit.”

Grossman died Thursday at her home in the Bearsville section of Woodstock, New York, not far from the house where the photograph was taken. She had long been a fixture in Woodstock, operating a recording studio, a theater and other businesses there after her husband died of a heart attack at 59 in 1986. She was 81.

Her niece, Anna Buehler, confirmed her death and said the cause had not been determined.

Sally Ann Buehler was born on Aug. 22, 1939, in Manhattan to Coleman and Ann (Kauth) Buehler. Her mother was executive director of the Boys Club (now the Variety Boys and Girls Club) of Queens; her father was an actuary.

Grossman studied at Adelphi University on Long Island and Hunter College in Manhattan, but she was more drawn to the arts scene percolating in Greenwich Village.

“I figured that what was happening on the street was a lot more interesting than studying 17th-century English literature,” she told Musician magazine in 1987, “so I dropped out of Hunter and began working as a waitress. I worked at the Cafe Wha?, and then the Bitter End, all over.”

Along the way she met Grossman, who was making his name managing folk music acts that played at those types of venues, including Peter, Paul and Mary, whom he helped bring together.

“The office was constantly packed with people,” Sally Grossman recalled in the 1987 interview. “Peter, Paul and Mary, of course, but also Ian and Sylvia, Richie Havens, Gordon Lightfoot, other musicians, artists, poets.”

The couple, who married in 1964, settled in Woodstock, where Albert Grossman had acquired properties and which Dylan had also discovered about the same time, settling there with his family as well.

In due course came the photo shoot for the album cover.

“I made 10 exposures,” Kramer told The Minneapolis Star Tribune in 2014. One image, with Dylan holding a cat, was a keeper. “That was the only time all three subjects were looking at the lens,” Kramer said.

The photo, staged by Kramer with Dylan’s input, was an early example of what became a mini-trend of loading covers up with imagery that seemed to invite scrutiny for insights into the music. The Beatles’ “Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band” (1967) might be the best-known example.

The album itself was a breakthrough for Dylan, marking his transition from acoustic to electric. Its tracks included “Mr. Tambourine Man,” “Subterranean Homesick Blues” and “Maggie’s Farm.”

Sally Grossman and her husband established recording studios and restaurants in Bearsville, and after his death Grossman renovated a barn to create the Bearsville Theater, bringing to life a vision of her husband’s. It hosted numerous concerts over the years. She sold the businesses in the mid-2000s.

Sally Grossman is survived by a brother, Barry Buehler.

Though she knew many American musicians, Grossman had a special place in her heart for an order of religious singers from Bengal known as the Bauls, whom she encountered in the 1960s. She created a digital archive of Baul music. Deborah Baker, author of “A Blue Hand: The Beats in India” (2008), wrote about Grossman and her connection to the Bauls in a 2011 essay in the magazine the Caravan.

“Despite all the famous musicians and bands who once passed through her life,” Baker wrote, “she found it was the Bauls she missed the most from those years.”

The rise of T20 cricket might have put the remaining two formats under some stress, but former England Captain Eoin Morgan argues this is for the greater good. Speaking with Digvijay Singh Deo – Sports Editor of WION, in an exclusive chat, Morgan said never before this moment has this game been this popular around the world. Having plied his trade in almost every league, Morgan knows about the pros and cons of this latest format but remains firm in his opinion that the rise of franchise-based T20 leagues will only benefit this game.

While questions surrounding the slow death of Test cricket in the wake of the expansion of T20 leagues keep even the top bosses searching for answers, Morgan sees a positive side of it, saying what this format has done in helping cricket reach the masses outside of regular playing nations neither of the ODIs and Tests was able to do so.

"Cricket has never been more popular around the world. Cricket is spreading far and wide. T20 cricket has allowed cricket to grow at a pace that no other format has been able to achieve it. So, we need to sit back and thank T20 cricket and recognise it for taking it everywhere," Morgan said.

Expressing his thoughts on what happens to ODI cricket in the near future, Morgan dropped a bombshell revealing in ten years, ODI cricket will be confined only to 50-over World Cups, as players and boards will be inclined towards playing and hosting franchise-based T20 tournaments, respectively.

"The 50-over format is under pressure the most. The Future Tours Programme (FTP) is looking like there will be more T20 cricket played than bilateral; the game needs to change with that, and that's how it's going to go. You can't fight the exceptional growth and pace at which the game is becoming so popular. I think ODI Cricket is going to become, at some stage, most likely confined to just World Cups," Morgan added.

<h2>Heart goes out to Zimbabwe, West Indies</h2>

Following the end of the ICC World Cup Qualifiers in Zimbabwe, two teams that sealed the remaining spots for the mega event were Sri Lanka and Scotland, thrashing former two-time champions West Indies and Zimbabwe out of the race. With disappointment luring in for both teams, Morgan - currently playing and captaining Harare Hurricane in Zimbabwe’s inaugural T10 league, shared his thoughts.

While he said having Zimbabwe in for the 2023 World Cup would have been great for them and cricket, for what they bring to the game, he was disappointed for the West Indies on not making the cut.

"Zimbabwe was devastated not to qualify for the World Cup, they were disappointed. On the flip side, watching West Indies cricket not qualify, given their reputation they had over the course of generations of producing legends of the game, is sad in many ways because the level of expectations has been there for a long time and the level of performance hasn't met that," Morgan added.

Woodstock 50 said in a statement that US&nbsp;financial services firm Oppenheimer &amp; Co, a unit of Oppenheimer Holdings Inc, had signed on as an adviser to complete financing for the Aug. 16-18 festival at the Watkins Glen motor racing venue in New York state.

The festival, with an 80-act lineup that includes rapper Jay-Z and pop singer Miley Cyrus, was thrown into chaos last month after the lead Japanese investors announced they had decided to 'cancel the event.'

Friday's statement did not say how much money Oppenheimer had obtained.

"We are thrilled to be onboard for this incredible weekend of music and social engagement," John Tonelli, head of Debt Capital Markets and Syndication at Oppenheimer &amp; Co, said in the statement.

"We believe in Woodstock as an important American cultural icon and look forward to its regeneration," he added.

Woodstock 50 is backed by the co-producer of the original 1969 Woodstock festival, which was billed as 'three days of peace and music'&nbsp;and is regarded as one of the pivotal moments in music history.

But the anniversary event has been plagued with problems and delays in announcing selling dates for tickets, obtaining permits and arranging security and sanitation.

A New York State Supreme Court judge ruled earlier this week that original investors Amplifi Live, a unit of Dentsu Inc, had no right to unilaterally cancel the festival last month.

But the judge declined to order the return to the organizers of $17.8 million of Amplifi Live's funds.

Woodstock 50 producer Michael Lang said on Friday that a ticket on-sale date would be announced shortly.

"Words cannot express how appreciative Woodstock 50, the artists, the fans and the community are to&nbsp;Oppenheimer for&nbsp;joining with us to&nbsp;make&nbsp;W50 a reality,” Lang said.

"As a result and after careful consideration, Dentsu Aegis Network’s Amplifi Live, a partner of Woodstock 50, has decided to cancel the festival," the statement added.

A former Canadian nurse has been arrested and charged with murdering eight elderly patients at two retirement homes in Canada&#39;s Ontario province, police said on Tuesday.&nbsp;

The nurse administered drugs to the victims, five women and three men in the towns of Woodstock and London, between 2007 and 2014. It is a highly unusual case as such cases are almost unheard of in the country.&nbsp;

Woodstock Police Chief William Renton told a televised news conference that the accused, Elizabeth Wettlaufer faces eight counts of first-degree murder and continues to remain in custody.&nbsp;

&quot;We&#39;re not in a position at this time to comment further on the specifics of the drug as it forms part of the evidence that is now before the courts. All I can offer there is there are obviously a number of drugs that are stored and available in long-term care facilities,&quot; the police said.&nbsp;

Records from the College of Nurses show Wettlaufer registered as a nurse in 1995 but resigned on September 30, one day after police launched their investigation after receiving a tip.

Police said the male and female victims were all aged between 75 to 96. Renton declined to give further details and said he could not speculate on the motive.&nbsp;

A former Canadian nurse has been arrested and charged with murdering eight elderly patients at two retirement homes in Canada's Ontario province, police said on Tuesday. The nurse administered drugs to the victims, five women and three men in the towns of Woodstock and London, between 2007 and 2014. It is a highly unusual case as such cases are almost unheard of in the country. Woodstock Police Chief William Renton told a televised news conference that the accused, Elizabeth Wettlaufer faces eight counts of first-degree murder and continues to remain in custody. "We're not in a position at this time to comment further on the specifics of the drug as it forms part of the evidence that is now before the courts. All I can offer there is there are obviously a number of drugs that are stored and available in long-term care facilities," the police said. Records from the College of Nurses show Wettlaufer registered as a nurse in 1995 but resigned on September 30, one day after police launched their investigation after receiving a tip. Police said the male and female victims were all aged between 75 to 96. Renton declined to give further details and said he could not speculate on the motive. (WION with inputs from agencies)
