Thousands of anti-Brexit protesters took to the streets of London in a 'No to Boris, Yes to Europe' march on Saturday (July 20). Colorful banners and European Union flags filled the streets, with crowds singing and chanting as they marched towards Parliament Square. The protesters are calling for a second referendum, while some saying they want a complete stop to the Brexit process. The European Union is preparing to offer Boris Johnson, the favorite to be Britain's next prime minister, a no-deal Brexit extension beyond October 31, the Guardian newspaper reported on Friday (July 19). Brexit without a divorce deal would abruptly wrench the world's fifth-largest economy away from the bloc. Critics say this would undermine global growth, buffet financial markets and weaken London's position as the pre-eminent international financial centre. Britain is yet to leave the EU, more than three years after the country voted by 52% to 48% in a referendum to leave the bloc.

Banging pots and pans and chanting "Ricky Resign!," Puerto Ricans rallied in San Juan's old city for an eight-day in a row on Saturday (July 20), calling for governor Ricardo Rossello (roh-seh-YO) to quit over misogynistic and homophobic messages. The chats, from a Telegram message group and referring mainly to politicians and officials, were published earlier this month (July 6).

Britain said Iran seized two oil tankers in the Gulf on Friday (July 19) and told Tehran to return the vessels or face consequences in the latest confrontation to ratchet up tension along a vital international oil shipping route. Iran's Revolutionary Guards said they had captured the British-flagged Stena Impero, announcing the move two weeks after the British navy seized an Iranian tanker in Gibraltar. Iran's semi-official Tasnim news agency said the second vessel, the British-operated Mesdar, had not been seized. It said the ship had been allowed to continue its course after being given a warning over safety and environmental issues.

Thousands of Puerto Ricans, led by protesters on horseback and with some banging drums and singing, marched on the governor's residence on Friday (July 19) demanding that he resign over hundreds of vulgar and offensive leaked chat messages. The march on Governor Ricardo Rossello's official San Juan residence was the latest in a week of sometimes violent protests over the messages attacking political adversaries, some of which were misogynistic and homophobic. The chats on a Telegram message group were published on Saturday (July 13) adding to Rossello's woes the same week that two of his former officials were arrested by the FBI as part of a federal corruption probe in the bankrupt U.S. territory. The protests are the latest troubles to rock Puerto Rico, which has been pummeled by bankruptcy and whipped by a devastating hurricane in 2017 that took a toll on the Caribbean island's already fragile economy. Hundreds of protesters on Friday gathered in streets near the governor's residence chanting, waving flags, banging pots and pans. Some carried placards reading "They Rob Us," according to videos posted on Twitter.

Iran's Revolutionary Guards said on Friday (July 19) they had captured a British-flagged oil tanker in the Gulf after Britain seized an Iranian vessel this month, ratcheting up tension along a vital international oil shipping route. Britain said it was urgently seeking information about the Stena Impero after the tanker, which had been heading to a port in Saudi Arabia, suddenly changed course after passing through the Strait of Hormuz at the mouth of the Gulf. A second tanker, the British-operated Mesdar, also made a sharp change of direction in the Gulf around the same time. But the Guards made no mention of a second vessel. Relations between Iran and the West have become increasingly tense since British naval forces seized an Iranian tanker in Gibraltar on July 4 on suspicion of smuggling oil to Syria in breach of European Union sanctions.
