It has been common for Chinese forces to cross the Taiwan Strait line – the unofficial border between the two countries – as a show of aggression. The aircrafts started their usual exercise even before Pelosi arrived on August 4, and they have continued the drills ever since.

Taiwan said that they were able to scramble a combat air patrol and implemented defense missile system against the planes, according to the official statement of the Ministry of National Defense. Earlier, Taiwan's President Tsai Ing-Wen said that&nbsp;they will not "escalate conflicts or provoke disputes" but will "firmly&nbsp;defend the country's sovereignty".

The first set of drills ended on Sunday, but the Chinese media has reported that the next round will continue to take place. The authorities also said they detected an unmanned aerial vehicle near the Chinese coastal city of Xiamen and the army fired to repel it from making any progress into the area.

China has also said it will hold live-fire drills in the Yellow Sea between China and the Korean peninsula from Saturday until August 15.

At the show, an English-language computer simulation video showed the light tactical warplane. This plane is capable of simultaneously carrying five air-to-air missiles and can destroy multiple targets at once. &nbsp;

A Turkish fighter jet downed a Syrian regime&nbsp;warplane over the northwestern Idlib province Tuesday, the&nbsp;Syrian Observatory for Human Rights war&nbsp;monitor said, in the third such downing in three days.

Turkey on Sunday confirmed it had launched a military operation against Russia-backed regime forces in the border region, where Ankara supports some rebel groups.

Syrian state news agency SANA said one of its planes was "targeted" after two others were shot down on Sunday.

Turkey confirmed the downing of an L-39&nbsp;jet.

"As part of the Spring Shield operation that is successfully continuing, an L-39 plane belonging to the regime has been downed," the Turkish defence ministry said.

The Observatory said the regime plane was brought down by a Turkish F-16 and crashed to the ground in a regime-held area south of the embattled rebel bastion.

The fate of the crew was not immediately clear, the Britain-based Observatory said.

Regime forces have since December been battling to retake the last major opposition bastion of Idlib from rebels and jihadists linked to Syria's former Al-Qaeda affiliate.

The Turkish operation came after an airstrike on Thursday blamed on Damascus killed 34 Turkish soldiers in the region.

Forces loyal to <a href="https://www.wionews.com/world/over-30000-displaced-in-libya-after-haftar-offensive-212187">eastern commander Khalifa Haftar</a> shot down a Tripoli government warplane south of the Libyan capital on Tuesday, witnesses and the Libyan National Army (LNA) said.

The LNA media unit released pictures of what it said was the pilot with blood on his face receiving medical treatment while seated on a chair. Another picture showed an LNA commander, Abdulsalam al-Hassi, standing behind him.

A spokesman for forces aligned with the internationally recognised government which is based in Tripoli had no immediate comment on the incident.

The eastern-based LNA, led by Haftar, began an offensive against Tripoli in early April but its advance has been blocked by forces loyal to Tripoli on the city's southern outskirts.

Residents of Gharyan, about 80 kilometres&nbsp;south of Tripoli, said that when the plane was heard overhead, anti-aircraft fire opened up. There was an explosion as it was hit.

"The jet was shot down in Al-Hira town (10 kilometres from Gharyan) and I saw LNA troops capturing the pilot," a Gharyan resident told Reuters.

The escalation is a setback for efforts by the United Nations and Western states to end the chaos and political division in Libya eight years after a NATO-backed uprising that toppled former leader Muammar Gaddafi.
