<p>With the win, India became the first team to win a T20 World Cup title without losing a match. The win against the Proteas in the final was their eighth on the trot.</p>

<p>Before India, only Australia had won eight consecutive games in T20 World Cup albeit across two editions - in 2022 and 2024.&nbsp;India won three games in the Group Stage - against Ireland, Pakistan and the USA before the match against Canada was washed out.</p>

<p>In Super 8, India won all three games - against Afghanistan, Australia and Bangladesh. They then won the semifinal against England before winning the final against the Proteas.</p>

<p>South Africa had also won all their matches leading to the final before losing the final against India in 2024 T20 World Cup.</p>

<p>India are also now only the third team to have two or more T20 titles. Apart from the 2024 edition, India had won the inaugural T20 World Cup back in 2007 as well.</p>

<p>India had set South Africa 177-run target to win the 2024 T20 World Cup. India won the toss and elected to bat first in Barbados and scored 176/7 in 20 overs.</p>

<p>As for South Africa, they were ahead most of the time and needed 30 runs in last five overs with Heinrich Klaasen and Miller on the crease.</p>

<p>The chase derailed after&nbsp;Pandya dismissed Klaasen in 17th over and&nbsp;from thereon India came out as eventual winners, holding SA at 169/8.</p>

Asia Cup: Former Australia skipper Tom Moody says Virat Kohli and Babar Azam 'very much alike'

<p>Former India skipper Virat Kohli has joined a special club of Indian players after taking the field at the Narendra Modi Stadium on Thursday, March 9 in the fourth Border-Gavaskar Trophy contest. The record saw him go level with another former India skipper Sourav Ganguly for most Test matches on Indian soil. Virat will have a huge role to play in the fourth Test which kick-started on Thursday as India seek a place in the final of the World Test Championship (WTC).</p>

<h3><strong>Virat equals Sourav Ganguly’s record</strong></h3>

<p>Before the start of the contest, Virat had played in 49 Test matches on Indian soil and his participation in the crunch contest on Thursday took him to 50 Test matches. Former India captain Sourav Ganguly also interestingly played his 50th Test match on Indian soil against Australia in 2008 and bowed on a high as they won the series.</p>

<p>The record for most Test matches on Indian soil is held by the great Sachin Tendulkar, having played 94 matches during his illustrious career. Current India head coach Rahul Dravid comes second on this list with 70 Test matches followed by Sunil Gavaskar and Kapil Dev on 65 matches. Anil Kumble is also part of the roster with 63 Test matches.</p>

<p>Interestingly, Virat’s current teammates Ravichandran Ashwin (55) and Cheteshwar Pujara (51) are also part of the list for most Test matches on Indian soil. Virender Sehwag and Harbhajan Singh, former ODI World Cup winners are also part of the epic club.</p>

The record saw him go level with another former India skipper Sourav Ganguly for most Test matches on Indian soil. Virat will have a huge role to play in the fourth Test which kick-started on Thursday as India seek a place in the final of the World Test Championship (WTC). Virat equals Sourav Ganguly’s record Before the start of the contest, Virat had played in 49 Test matches on Indian soil and his participation in the crunch contest on Thursday took him to 50 Test matches. Former India captain Sourav Ganguly also interestingly played his 50th Test match on Indian soil against Australia in 2008 and bowed on a high as they won the series. The record for most Test matches on Indian soil is held by the great Sachin Tendulkar, having played 94 matches during his illustrious career. Current India head coach Rahul Dravid comes second on this list with 70 Test matches followed by Sunil Gavaskar and Kapil Dev on 65 matches. Anil Kumble is also part of the roster with 63 Test matches. Interestingly, Virat’s current teammates Ravichandran Ashwin (55) and Cheteshwar Pujara (51) are also part of the list for most Test matches on Indian soil. Virender Sehwag and Harbhajan Singh, former ODI World Cup winners are also part of the epic club.
