Appearing in front of a tribunal, the veterinarian said she had performed multiple euthanasias earlier that day and found it emotionally challenging to proceed with another. She said that upon entering the examination room at a surgery in Framlingham, Suffolk, she saw a "sweet young cat" that seemed healthy apart from a skin condition.&nbsp;

Parody claimed she could not bring herself to euthanise the cat and instead opted for treatment, which included sedation and castration — done without the owner's consent. She even replaced Shadow's microchip and took him home.

"The drug Pentoject had already been drawn up. Upon entering the room, I was greeted by a sweet young cat, which appeared healthy apart from his skin condition."

A report published by the news agency AFP mentioned that since its release last month, "Cat Pain Detector" has racked up 43,000 users. Go Sakioka, head of developer Carelogy, said that most of the users are in Japan, but some are also in Europe and South America.&nbsp;

The report has mentioned that the software is part of a growing array of technology for pet owners, who are worried about the well-being of their pets. Some similar apps are mood and pain trackers produced in Canada and Israel.&nbsp;

Carelogy and Nihon University's College of Bioresource Sciences jointly collected 6,000 cat pictures and closely examined the postures of the ears, noses, whiskers, and eyelids of cats.&nbsp;

He told AFP that the app "has an accuracy level of more than 90 per cent".&nbsp;

According to the Japan Pet Food Association, 60 per cent of owners take their cat to a veterinarian at most once a year.

"We want to help cat owners judge more easily at home whether to see a vet or not," Sakioka said.

"Cat Pain Detector" is already being used by some vets in Japan, the land of Hello Kitty, where tourists flock to cat cafes and some small islands are overrun by stray felines.

But "the AI system still needs to be more precise before it's used as a standardised tool", he said.&nbsp;

"Due to the current situation, there will be temporary disruptions to the supply of freshly slaughtered pork from April 23 onwards," the SFA said in a statement.&nbsp;

"SFA is working closely with the abattoir to sanitise the premises and surrounding environment after the slaughter of pigs that are currently at the abattoir has been completed, as well as to maintain the biosecurity measures at the abattoir."

The delay in patent, as per Abraham, happened because he needed permission from the National Biodiversity Authority as the important raw material was biological material which is locally sourced.

During his research days, he was being mentored by late Prof Ramesh Saravanakumar who passed away waiting for the patent to arrive.
