Tammy Duckworth has become the first female US senator to give birth while in office, reports said on Wednesday.&nbsp;

Duckworth, 50, gave birth to daughter, Maile Pearl Bowlsbey on Monday. Duckworth said she and her husband, Bryan Bowlsbey, and their other daughter, Abigail, “couldn’t be happier to welcome little Maile Pearl as the newest addition to our family.”

In a series of tweets, she also thanked her family and medical team. The milestone by the Illinois Democrat makes her the 10th member of Congress to give birth while in office. The other nine women were members of the House of Representatives when they had their babies.

Duckworth was a House member when she had her first child, in 2014.&nbsp;

The Iraq War veteran had previously made history when she became the first disabled woman elected to the US Senate. The senator lost both of her legs in the Iraq War in 2004 when the helicopter that she was co-piloting was shot down by insurgents over Iraq.

She entered the House in 2012 and then the Senate in 2016, where she is one of the 100-strong chamber’s 23 women.

Duckworth has made advocating for working-class families a key focal point of her service in Congress.

In her statement, she described parenthood as an economic issue affecting women and men alike.

“As tough as juggling the demands of motherhood and being a senator can be, I’m hardly alone or unique as a working parent, and my children only make me more committed to doing my job and standing up for hardworking families everywhere,” she said.

Congratulations poured in from fellow lawmakers, including from top House Democrat Nancy Pelosi.

“I’m sure she will grow up to be just as strong as her mother!” Pelosi tweeted.

A legislation has been introduced in the Congress that would require call centre employees overseas to disclose their location and give customers a right to ask to transfer their call to a service agent in the US.

Introduced by Senator Sherrod Brown from Ohio, the legislation also proposes to create a public list of companies that would outsource call centre jobs and give preference in federal contracts to companies that haven&#39;t shipped these jobs overseas.

The bill also guarantees US customers the right to ask to transfer their call to a customer service agent who is physically located in the US.

For far too long, US trade and tax policy have encouraged a corporate business model that shuts down operations in Ohio, cashes in on a tax credit at the expense of working Americans, and ships production to Reynosa, Mexico or Wuhan and China, he said.

&quot;Jobs at call centres are some of the most vulnerable to offshoring. Too many companies have packed up their call centres in Ohio and across the country, and moved to India or Mexico,&quot; he said.

Brown said the constant threat of outsourcing hangs over workers like Renee Rouser of Youngstown, who he talked with last week. Renee has worked at a Youngstown call centre for 13 years and knows call centre jobs are where people build careers.

&quot;So many companies wouldn&#39;t be able to function without their customer service staff. Ohio workers like Renee contribute to their businesses and bring ideas to make it work better. We need to value their contributions ? not end their careers and ship their jobs overseas,&quot; Brown said.

According to a study by the Communications Workers of America, the largest communications and media labour union in the US, India and the Philippines are the top two destinations for US companies off-shoring call centre jobs.

New US outsourcing bill puts Indian call centre jobs in firing line

The landmark India-US civil nuclear deal was &quot;dead at the very beginning&quot; as it was signed without ground work, a former top Republican Senator has alleged, describing the agreement as more of an &quot;arms deal&quot; for American defence manufacturing companies.

Former Senator Larry Pressler, who has served as chairman of the US Senate&#39;s arms control subcommittee, told a Washington audience that the deal was much-praised &quot;but there is no chance of it being implemented as the liability issues have not been addressed and it has not been worked through.&quot;

Pressler said that there was &quot;no groundwork done&quot; in India or the US on the civil nuclear deal.

The India-US nuclear cooperation agreement was signed in October 2008, ending India&#39;s isolation by the West in the nuclear and space arena. The deal has given a significant boost to India&#39;s nuclear energy production.

Pressler was speaking at an event organised by The Hudson Institute, a top American think-tank, to discuss his latest book &#39;Neighbours in Arms: An American Senator&#39;s Quest for Disarmament in a Nuclear Subcontinent&#39;.

Obama, Clinton to make first joint campaign stop next week: official

Donald Trump offered a message of ethnic harmony yesterday at a Christian evangelical conference. He was trying to calm concern about his criticism of a Mexican-American judge. 
 
In a departure from his usual freewheeling style, Trump read a carefully scripted speech from a teleprompter as part of a new push by his campaign to tone down the outspoken New Yorker&#39;s harsh rhetoric. 
 
Trump&#39;s remarks included a wide-ranging attack on Democratic rival Hillary Clinton. The 69-year-old said that money aimed at resettling Syrian refugees in the United States should instead be spent on tackling poverty in US cities. 
 
Speaking to the annual conference of the conservative Faith &amp; Freedom Coalition, Trump did not mention the controversy over his charge that US District Judge Gonzalo Curiel cannot treat him fairly because of his Mexican heritage. However, he did make a point of saying that he would represent all Americans if elected president on November 8. 
 
&quot;Freedom of any kind means no one should be judged by their race or their colour and the tone of his hue,&quot; Trump said. &quot;Right now, we have a very divided nation. We&#39;re going to bring our nation together.&quot;
