Chief Minister of the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh, Yogi Adityanath has directed all eateries along the Kanwar Yatra route to display the names of their owners throughout the state. The Kanwar Yatra is set to commence on July 22.

This order comes after the Uttar Pradesh police in Muzaffarnagar amended their directive, making it optional for eateries to display owners’ names, following criticism from opposition parties.

To ensure the Kanwar Yatra proceeds smoothly, Adityanath instructed that food and beverage shops along the Kanwar routes must show the name and identity of the operator/owner to uphold the pilgrims’ faith. Additionally, action will be taken against those selling halal-certified products, ANI reported.

As per the new rule, all food establishments, including restaurants, roadside dhabas, and food carts, must now display their owner's name.

Uttar Pradesh Minister Kapil Dev Agarwal recently claimed that some Muslims are disguising themselves under Hindu names to sell non-vegetarian food to pilgrims. He mentioned that names like "Vaishno Dhaba Bhandar," "Shakumbhari Devi Bhojanalaya," and "Shuddh Bhojanalaya" are being used to sell non-vegetarian items.

The Muzaffarnagar Police had earlier requested that eateries along the Kanwar route “voluntarily display” the names of their owners and staff. They emphasised that this measure is intended solely to assist devotees and is not meant to foster any “religious discrimination.”

Meanwhile, the Uttarakhand Police has instructed that eateries along the Kanwar Yatra routes display the owners' names on their boards.

Former Samajwadi Party MP Dr ST Hasan criticised this directive, stating, “…A message is being sent to boycott Muslim-owned businesses and support those owned by Hindus… How long will this communal mindset continue? Unfortunately, such incidents are increasing… This is creating a divide between the communities. These orders should be revoked…”

Earlier on Thursday, Samajwadi Party leader Akhilesh Yadav described the order as a “social crime” and urged the court to intervene, raising concerns about the motives behind the government's actions.

“What can be learned from names like Guddu, Munna, Chhotu, or Fateh? The esteemed court should initiate suo-motu proceedings to probe the government's intentions and impose suitable penalties. Such orders are social crimes aimed at disrupting the peaceful atmosphere of harmony,” he said&nbsp;in a post on X.

Meanwhile, responding to the reports, Deputy CM Brajesh Pathak said “stringent action” will be taken against those found guilty.&nbsp;

<h2>What did the probe find?</h2>

Around 13,000 unauthorised madrasas have been found across the Indian state, according to the comprehensive submitted to the state government. This comes months after the UP government set up the team to probe foreign funding to hundreds of madrasas.&nbsp;

A report by Zee News citing sources said most of the identified illicit madrasas are situated along the Indo-Nepal border, and their construction over the past two decades has been funded by contributions originating in Gulf countries.&nbsp;

A majority of these madrasas were located in seven districts of UP that border Nepal, including Maharajganj, Shravasti, and Bahraich, according to the report by SIT. The investigation also found each border district is home to more than 500 such madrasas.&nbsp;

According to the media report, most of these madrasas had failed to provide financial records sought by the SIT team, and have no clear accounts of their income and expenditure. Many of these madrasas claim to have been built with donations but reportedly were unable to disclose the names of contributors.

The SIT team investigated a total of 23,000 madrasas out of which 5,000 had provisional recognition, while others have fallen short of meeting accreditation standards over the past 25 years.&nbsp;

Madrasas in UP have been under scrutiny since 2022 when the government first ordered a survey of all such institutes in the state.&nbsp;

A report submitted to the government in this regard, on November 15, 2023, showed 8,596 of around 25,000 madrasas were running without recognition in the state.&nbsp;

The investigation also found that around 665,000 students were enrolled in these unrecognised institutions.

<h2>‘Stringent action’</h2>

Speaking about the findings of the recent SIT probe, Deputy CM Pathak said, “Our government will further strengthen law and order in the state. Under no circumstances, will we allow illegal activities in the state.”&nbsp;

He added, “Stringent action will be taken against the guilty. After the report comes, strict action will be taken as per the law.”

Similarly, UP Deputy CM Keshav Prasad Maurya said action will be taken against those who are engaging in “anti-national activities” under the pretext of education.&nbsp;

“There is no question on any education system in the country. But if anti-national activities are done on the pretext of education, it will be investigated and action will be taken against the guilty,” Maurya told news agency ANI.&nbsp;

Former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister, Kalyan Singh, passed away in Lucknow's&nbsp;Sanjay Gandhi Postgraduate Institute of Medical Sciences (SGPGI) on Saturday.

The 89-year-old Indian politician was undergoing treatment at the Dr Ram Manohar Lohia Institute of Medical Sciences. He passed away after&nbsp;suffering from&nbsp;sepsis and multi-organ failure.

"Kalyan Singh's health status is critical and is on life-saving support system," the hospital said in a statement.

Singh had been admitted in the hospital since July 04 due to an infection and was being observed by a team of medical experts in the hospital's Intensive Care Unit (ICU).&nbsp;

He had been shifted to life support system on Friday after the doctors reported that his health was declining.

Uttar Pradesh's Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and Union Home Minister Amit Shah had inquired about the health of the former BJP minister in the morning.

It is noteworthy that out of the 115 districts selected from the country as aspirational districts, 8 districts (Chitrakoot, Fatehpur, Bahraich, Shravasti, Balrampur, Siddhartha Nagar, Chandauli, and Sonbhadra) are from Uttar Pradesh, an official release of the Uttar Pradesh government said.

They have been selected on 49 parameters, namely- human development index, medical and nutrition, agriculture, water resources, financial inclusion, skill development, and infrastructure.

"The state government will provide all possible help for the same. Once the plan is made it will be implemented effectively in a time-bound manner," Adityanath said.

Chief Executive Officer of Niti Aayog, Amitabh Kant, and his colleagues presented the details of the progress of eight aspirational districts before the Chief Minister.&nbsp;

Praising the progress of the state, the Aayog members said that they want the aspirational districts of Uttar Pradesh should come at the top among the 115 districts in all the major parameters.&nbsp;

Aayog members said in the next 3-4 months, all the aspirational districts of UP will be on the top of every key parameter.&nbsp;

The officials of the Aayog suggested that the good works done in the aspirational districts should be shared with them through the District Magistrates of the concerned districts.

"They will share it with the world through social media.&nbsp;

The entire transformation work of the districts should be done in team spirit and there should be proper coordination between the representatives of the Centre and State.&nbsp;

In order to represent the ranking of the work on the dashboard, the data entry should be done correctly and timely," read the government press release.
