Sweden ends UNRWA funding, vows to redirect aid to Gaza through alternative channels

Sweden will no longer fund the U.N. refugee agency for Palestinians (UNRWA) but instead provide humanitarian assistance to Gaza via other channels, the Nordic country's aid minister, Benjamin Dousa, told Swedish broadcaster TV4 on Friday.

An independent panel released its much-awaited report about the UN relief agency for Palestine refugees (UNRWA), providing 50 recommendations and noting that Israeli authorities have yet to provide proof of their claims that UN staff are involved with terrorist organisations.

Philippe Lazzarini, the chief of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA), said that the agency was at risk of death and also at risk of dismantlement after the Israeli government alleged that some of the agency's staff took part in Hamas' October 7 attack last year.
