Kohberger had been working as a teaching assistant at WSU, and less than two weeks before the murders, faculty members met with him to discuss growing concerns about his behaviour and conduct.&nbsp;</p>

<h2><strong>The case so far and what’s next</strong></h2>

<p>Kohberger has been in jail since he was arrested in December 2022 from his parent’s home in Pennsylvania. He is scheduled to go on trial in October. The authorities have not indicated what they believe Kohberger’s motive might have been.&nbsp;</p>

<p>For weeks after the killings, investigators were unable to identify a suspect, but they eventually began focusing on Kohberger after using genetic genealogy. It is a technique that was previously used in cold cases that compare crime scene DNA against profiles on consumer ancestry websites, allowing the police to try to build a family tree.&nbsp;</p>
