Our data protection law is work-in-progress, we will make a robust data protection law," he said at the curtain raiser event of the Indian Mobile Congress (IMC) 2019 on Saturday.</p>

<p>He also touched upon the subject of 5G ecosystem and said his vision of India includes the creation of Indian patents in fifth-generation (5G) technology.</p>

<p>Union Minister Nitin Gadkari said on Tuesday that toll system cannot be ended and that people have to pay if they want good services as the government does not have enough funds.</p>

<p>"Toll system can never end though rates may vary from time to time. The toll is my brainchild. If you want good services, you have to pay for it. The government does not have money," he said in the Lok Sabha while replying to a debate on 'Demands for Grants' under the Road, Transport and Highways Ministry.</p>

<p>The Union Minister stressed that those who can pay toll tax should pay it and that those areas which have the capacity to pay, the money is utilised for building roads in rural and hilly areas.</p>

<p>Gadkari said that over 1.5 lakh people lose their lives every year in road accidents and underlined that the number was higher than the people killed in terror attacks.</p>

<p>The minister said that he will help the MPs in establishing training centres for driving in their respective constituencies."We lack 25 lakh drivers. New driving centres should be started especially in economically backward regions," he added.</p>

<p>Gadkari informed the House that the Motor Vehicle (Amendment) Bill will ensure that licences are not duplicated and the culprits are tracked.</p>

<p>He said that India has become a manufacturing hub for the automobile sector and will become the first in the world in electric automobile manufacturing in the next five years.</p>

<p>A Delhi court on Monday fixed February 22 for hearing a pre-summoning argument in the defamation complaint filed against 'The Caravan'&nbsp;and Congress'&nbsp;Jairam Ramesh.</p>

<p>The complaint was filed by National Security Advisor (NSA) Ajit Doval`s son Vivek Doval against the magazine for allegedly publishing a defamatory article and Jairam Ramesh for using content from the article.</p>

<p>Earlier in the day, Vivek`s business partner Amit Sharma had recorded his statement before the court.</p>

<p>In his statement, Sharma said, "I know Vivek Doval (complainant) since 2004 when we both were semiconductor analyst at different banks. I was at Deutsche Bank and Vivek was at Bear Stearn Bank. Since then we became friends and had been in regular contact."</p>

<p>"Later, Vivek and I discussed stock ideas very regularly and got along very well over the course of the next several years," he noted."In 2012, when Boyer Allen shut down. Vivek was looking for what to do next.&nbsp;This is when we came up with the idea of the launching of a fund together," Sharma said.</p>

<p>This development came to light after Vivek on January 30 recorded his statement before the same court.</p>

<p>Vivek asserted that all charges made against him were “baseless and false” and references were made in “a demeaning manner” without trying to “ascertain the facts.”He had recorded his statement before Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Samar Vishal.</p>

<p>“I was livid after reading the article published about me in a magazine and the manner in which the events were narrated. My family was referred to as D-Companies whereas we all know that in our country the D-Company refers to Dawood Ibrahim, a known criminal, who figures in the most wanted list,” he told the court.</p>

<p>“Questions were also raised on the integrity of my family, especially my father who has dedicated his life to the service of the nation and fighting against Dawood,” Vivek further said.</p>

<p>Vivek, who obtained CFA from the US in 2006 and did CAIA from CAIA institute in 2010, said: “Allegations were levied about money laundering and converting the black money into white, without there being any basis.”It was written that Rs 8,300 crore of black money has been round tripped to India thereby tarnishing my career and my venture GNY Asia Fund,” he stated.</p>

<p>Calling himself a proud Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) and citizen of the UK, Doval also asserted that “the article branded him and his family as anti-national.”</p>

<p>Stating that Jairam Ramesh, a former Union Minister, had used the platform of the Indian National Congress (INC) to propagate these charges, he said: “There were many derogatory comments spoken which raised numerous questions on the integrity of my family.”</p>

<p>“Unpleasantness was bestowed upon me and my family based on falsehood and mala-fide. Without trying to ascertain facts, references were made in a demeaning manner,” he said.</p>

<p>He also claimed that the repercussions of the article and press conference questioned his professional integrity, which is of critical importance for his career.“It has questioned my social standing as a fund manager. If I have dubious integrity, my career is over as a Fund manager.”</p>

<p>On January 21, Vivek had filed a criminal defamation case against Congress leader Jairam Ramesh and two journalists, contending that they had caused “irreparable damage” to his reputation “through calculated insinuations and innuendos.”</p>

<p>Vivek has contended that Ramesh and the two journalists “have committed the offence of defamation punishable under Section 500 of IPC (which provides for simple imprisonment for a term which may extend to two years, or with fine, or with both) read with Section 120-B IPC (criminal conspiracy).&nbsp;</p>

<p>Amid controversy over Naseeruddin Shah's remarks on mob violence, Union minister Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi Saturday said the veteran actor's children need not feel scared as tolerance was in the DNA of the country.</p>

<p>Naqvi, while referring to Shah's remarks, also said a mountain was being made out of a molehill.</p>

<p>"I think his emotions may have been right, but his words were probably misconstrued and a mountain out of a molehill was made. India is a tolerant country. Tolerance and harmony are in the DNA of the country and despite any circumstances, nobody succeeded in destroying the strong legacy," Naqvi told PTI during his visit to the city.</p>

<p>"There is no need for his (Shah's) children to be scared. The country is moving ahead on the basis of the Constitution and in a democratic country, there is no need to fear anybody," the Minority Affairs Minister added.</p>

<p>Shah, one of the prominent film and stage actors in the country, has found himself at the centre of a major controversy over his remarks in reference to the killing of a policeman in Bulandshahr earlier this month.</p>

<p>He said the death of a cow was being given importance over the killing of a policeman in the violence.</p>

<p>In the interview, the actor had also expressed concern over the well-being of his children, who he said have not been brought up as followers of any particular religion.</p>

<p>Naqvi, while taking a dig at National Conference chief Farooq Abdullah for lauding Congress president Rahul Gandhi over the party's electoral wins in the recent state polls, said the former Jammu and Kashmir chief minister was right in saying that Gandhi is no more a 'Pappu'.</p>

<p>"He is not a 'Pappu' anymore but has become a 'Gappu' - one who spreads rumours and is a loudmouth.</p>

<p>From 'Pappu' to 'Gappu', his journey has been with a 'jhooth ka jhunjhuna (rattle of lies)," the minister said.</p>

<p>"However, the tree of lies has come under the mountain of truth. As far as the fabricated story of Rafale is concerned, it is a well-planned conspiracy against the national security," he added.</p>

<p>On the ongoing debate over the caste of Lord Hanuman, the minister said the Ramayana character should not be pushed into any kind of controversy, as he is worshipped and respected by the people, he said.</p>

<p>He has been upset with the BJP after it asserted that the RLSP would not be given more than two seats in the 2019 Lok Sabha election, even as it went out of the way to accommodate Kumar by agreeing that the saffron party and the JD(U) would fight an equal number of seats.</p>

<p>There are reports that the RLSP may join hands with the opposition including Lalu Prasad's RJD and the Congress. According to reports, the Rashtriya Lok Samta Party chief has been targeting the BJP and Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, a key ally of the ruling party, for weeks.</p>

RLSP chief Upendra Kushwaha quits as Union Minister, likely to quit NDA: Reports

<p>Kannada actor and politician Ambareesh passed away at a private hospital in Bengaluru due to cardiac arrest, sources have said. He was 66.</p>

<p>A former Union minister, Ambareesh was rushed to the hospital after he complained of breathing trouble and passed away on Saturday night, officials at the hospital said.</p>

<p>"Ambareesh was brought to the hospital around 9 pm and he passed away because of cardiac arrest," Vikram Hospital officials told PTI.</p>

<p>According to the hospital spokesman, Ambareesh was found unresponsive at his residence and the resuscitation efforts were initiated there and continued en route while he was shifted to the hospital.</p>

<p>"Despite all aggressive resuscitation efforts, he could not be revived and was declared deceased at 22:15 hrs," the spokesman added.</p>

<p>Ambareesh, a three-time Lok Sabha member and also a former State minister, is survived by actress Sumalatha and son Abishek.</p>

<p>Speaking to reporters after visiting the hospital, Kumaraswamy said, the state government has decided to observe a three-day state mourning as a mark of respect for Ambareesh whose funeral would be held with full state honour.</p>

<p>Calling Ambareesh "Ajatashatru", the Chief Minister appealed to his fans to maintain calm and extend cooperation so that no hindrance is caused to the public at large and the funeral related formalities happen peacefully.</p>

<p>"I can understand your pain, tomorrow morning around 7:30 or 8 his body will be kept at Kanteerava Stadium for paying last respects," he said.</p>

<p>Recalling Ambreesh's bonding with Mandya and Mysuru region, Kumaraswamy said special buses will be arranged from there for his fans and friends to pay their last respects here in Bengaluru.</p>

<p>"We have to build a memorial for him here. Keeping this in view the family has decided to perform his last rites in Bengaluru," Kumaraswamy said while noting his contribution to state, films and politics.</p>

<p>President Ram Nath Kovind, as advised by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has directed that Gowda should&nbsp;be assigned the charge of the ministry of chemicals and fertilisers, in addition to his existing portfolio, the statement said.</p>

<p>India already has a 515-kilometre functional network of metro tracks in various cities and 15 more will soon have over 660 kilometres of tracks for rapid urban transportation, Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri said on Monday.</p>

<p>Interacting with the members of the Consultative Committee attached to the Housing and Urban Affairs (HUA) Ministry, Puri spoke about new urban transport initiatives in India.</p>

<p>According to a statement released by the housing and urban affairs minister, the state governments and union territories have been advised to prepare and submit the Detailed Project Report (DPR) in line with the provisions in the Metro Rail Policy 2017.</p>

<p>"Hardeep S Puri, Minister of State (I/C) for Housing and Urban Affairs has stated that more than 664 kms of metro rail projects in 15 cities are presently under various stages of implementation, while more than 515 kms of metro line are already operational in India," the statement said.</p>

<p>He said several new cities are now aspiring to have metro rail systems.</p>

<p>To bring together the technology and service providers, policy makers, officials in urban transport from India and abroad, the 11th Urban Mobility India (UMI) Conference is planned from November 2-4 at Nagpur, with the theme "Green Mobility" to disseminate up-to-date and best urban transport practices information to the cities, he added.</p>

Kerala government trying to pass the buck on Sabarimala issue: Union Minister Pon Radhakrishnan

<p>All NRI marriages solemnised in India would have to be registered within 48 hours, Union Minister of Women and Child Development Maneka Gandhi said today.</p>

<p>As of now, there is no time frame to register marriages in India. However, a Law Commission report has recommended that the time limit to register marriages should be restricted to 30 days after which a penalty of Rs 5 per day could be imposed.</p>

<p>"NRI marriages have to be registered&nbsp;within 48 hours, else the passport and visas would not be issued," Gandhi said, adding that the WCD Ministry is in the process of issuing orders to the registrars that details of such marriages should be provided to it so that a central database can be maintained.</p>

<p>The ministry had earlier constituted an Integrated Nodal Agency (INA) with representatives from the ministries of External Affairs, Home Affairs and Law and Justice to look into matrimonial disputes involving Non-resident Indians (NRI).&nbsp;</p>

<p>According to the recommendation of the National Commission for Women (NCW) and the decisions taken in the INA, look-out circulars are issued as per criteria defined by the MHA, for keeping a watch on arrival or departure of NRI husbands and preventing them from leaving India, Gandhi said.</p>

<p>"The ministry has recently issued six look-out circulars in such cases and in five cases, passports were revoked by the Ministry of External Affairs," she said, listing various achievements of her ministry in the last four years.&nbsp;</p>

<p>She said that a change in the statute by the Law Ministry allowing authorities to hold the properties of NRI offenders in escrow in case they abscond abandoning their spouse is awaited before the databases can be finalised.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Escrow is a legal concept in which a financial instrument or an asset is held by a third party on behalf of two other parties that are in the process of completing a transaction.</p>

All NRI marriages solemnised in India would have to be registered within 48 hours, Union Minister of Women and Child Development Maneka Gandhi said today. As of now, there is no time frame to register marriages in India. However, a Law Commission report has recommended that the time limit to register marriages should be restricted to 30 days after which a penalty of Rs 5 per day could be imposed. "NRI marriages have to be registered within 48 hours, else the passport and visas would not be issued," Gandhi said, adding that the WCD Ministry is in the process of issuing orders to the registrars that details of such marriages should be provided to it so that a central database can be maintained. The ministry had earlier constituted an Integrated Nodal Agency (INA) with representatives from the ministries of External Affairs, Home Affairs and Law and Justice to look into matrimonial disputes involving Non-resident Indians (NRI). According to the recommendation of the National Commission for Women (NCW) and the decisions taken in the INA, look-out circulars are issued as per criteria defined by the MHA, for keeping a watch on arrival or departure of NRI husbands and preventing them from leaving India, Gandhi said. "The ministry has recently issued six look-out circulars in such cases and in five cases, passports were revoked by the Ministry of External Affairs," she said, listing various achievements of her ministry in the last four years. She said that a change in the statute by the Law Ministry allowing authorities to hold the properties of NRI offenders in escrow in case they abscond abandoning their spouse is awaited before the databases can be finalised. Escrow is a legal concept in which a financial instrument or an asset is held by a third party on behalf of two other parties that are in the process of completing a transaction. <p>Union Minister Jitendra Singh on Saturday claimed that terrorism was in its "last stage" in Kashmir and over 600 militants had been killed because of the government's decisive actions on the anti-terrorism front. His remarks come ahead of Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh's expected visit to Jammu and Kashmir next week.</p>

<p>"The decisive actions that the government has taken... 600 militants have been killed during the period, and this is much higher than the number of militants killed during the UPA-I and UPA-II (governments). Terrorism in the Valley is in its last stage," he told reporters here.</p>

<p>Union Minister of State for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship Anantkumar Hegde on Tuesday claimed that a “deliberate attempt” was made on his life when a truck hit his escort vehicle in Karnataka's Haveri district.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Hegde was traveling near Halageri in Ranebennur taluk of Haveri district around 11:30 p.m. when the incident took place. Police have arrested the truck driver.</p>

<p>Gadkari added that he was not against dams, but was for 100 per cent utilisation of water to increase agricultural productivity.</p>

<p>Command area development (CAD) involves on-farm improvement activities such as the construction of field drains and channels and scientific management of water, to ensure that the agricultural production goes up.</p>

<p>&quot;All are very interested in constructing dams. I don&#39;t know what the interest is, but everyone is quite interested in it. Big contractors (of dams) come, don&#39;t know...From ministers to bureaucrats are very happy when there are big projects,&quot; Gadkari said.</p>

<p>&quot;I am sorry to say, but the issue of CAD is of no interest (to them). What is the use of the scheme then?&quot; the water resources minister asked.</p>

<p>Gadkari made the remarks at a one-day conference on command area development here.</p>

<p>Seeking to drive home his point, Gadkari said his ministry had prioritised 99 projects at a cost of Rs 78,000 crore under the Accelerated Irrigation Benefit Programme (AIBP). Rs 29,000 crore of these have been marked for CAD to develop canal systems, he added.</p>

<p>&quot;But only Rs 2,000-crore worth (CAD) projects have come for Sardar Sarovar (in Gujarat). I was told that Telangana (also) has sent a Rs 12-crore proposal. So, there are no proposals (coming),&quot; he said.</p>

<p>The minister also asked what was the use of a dam if water did not reach farms after.</p>
