The Eiffel Tower was lit up to celebrate the 75th birthday of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).

“In a sign of the French capital's friendship towards the organisation it has hosted since 1946, the tower displayed the words ‘75 years’ alongside the UNESCO logo, a stylised Greek temple and ‘symbol of hope for the creation of a peaceful world’,” the United Nations’ special agency said.

The Friday’s light show was part of a wider ceremony which included the visits of over 20 heads of state and a projection of works by the Brazilian photographer Sebastiao Salgado at the body's headquarters.

Noting that “UNESCO’s role is more critical than ever”, UN Secretary-General,&nbsp;António Guterres said the UN’s special agency was born as a pillar of the United Nations system, in “the wake of one of the darkest chapters in human history”.&nbsp;

“For more than 75 years, UNESCO has promoted dialogue and mutual understanding.&nbsp;World Heritage sites, Biosphere Reserves…emerged at UNESCO”, he said.&nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;

The Paris-based agency was founded in 1945 as the successor to the League of Nations' International Committee on Intellectual Cooperation.

It is best known for designating and protecting archaeological and heritage sites, from the Galapagos Islands to the tombs of Timbuktu.

Audrey Azoulay, a former French culture minister, was elected to a second four-year term as its director-general earlier this week.

Corruption, dynasty politics, loot of people's money, terrorism and nepotism have been curbed like never before in new India, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Friday.&nbsp;

On day two of his French&nbsp;visit, Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed an animated Indian diaspora audience at UNESCO headquarters in Paris and said India was on the path to progress.&nbsp;

Modi said that he is not among those who forget the promise amid thunderous applause from the audience and added ''goals set for 2030 will be fulfilled by 2025''.

He said that within 75 days of forming the new government, they took many strong decisions.

India celebrated France's World Cup Football victory, Modi said amid chanting of ''Modi...Modi'' inside the UNESCO headquarters.

Modi thanked the French President Emmanuel&nbsp;Macron&nbsp;for inviting to France to attend the G7 Summit.

''Today in the 21st century we talk of INFRA. I would like to say that for me it is IN+FRA, which means the alliance between India and France,'' Modi said adding to&nbsp;list of acronyms he is know for.

Modi also paid rich tribute to those killed including great Indian nuclear physicist Homi J Bhaba in two Air India plane crashes in 1950 and 1966 in France's Saint Gervais.&nbsp;

''I salute all those including the great Indian nuclear physicist Homi Bhaba, who lost their lives in the two crashes,'' the Indian prime minister said.&nbsp;

Modi said that India was surging ahead and the mandate that his party got was not merely for ''running'' a government but for ''building'' a new India, Modi said.&nbsp;
