As India continues to battle the pandemic, reports say a new variant of coronavirus has been identified in India at the National Institute of Virology(NIV) in Pune.

Researchers at the University of British Columbia(UBC) in Canada have published the first molecular images of the B.1.1.7 COVID-19 mutation which was first discovered in the UK in December last year.

The Indian government has said it will test travellers from Brazil, South Africa and the UK after detecting new virus strains. Watch: "All the travellers arriving from/transiting through flights originating in United Kingdom, Europe or the Middle East shall be mandatorily subjected to self-paid confirmatory molecular tests on arrival," the Indian government said in a statement.
