The 61-year-old diplomat was in the town on Saturday when he heard a cry from a group of people after the woman fell into the river. &nbsp;

He then gave a lifebuoy to the woman that was thrown from the riverbank before the duo reached the shore.&nbsp;

Video footage shared by the consulate and various Chinese media organisations shows the diplomat jump immediately fully-clothed after seeing the woman struggling to stay afloat.&nbsp;

"For a man of such advanced age to save another person from the water in such cold weather, regardless of his own safety, he is a hero and gentleman!" read one comment, as quoted by news agency AFP.&nbsp;

The tweet comes after the spokesman of British Prime Minister said that the <a href="https://www.wionews.com/world/uk-offers-full-support-to-us-ambassador-trump-lashes-out-at-theresa-may-after-leak-of-damning-cables-234128">UK ambassador to Washington, Kim Darroch</a>, has May's full support.

London has been scrambling to stem the damage caused by the weekend release of confidential telegrams in which its envoy Darroch&nbsp;described the US leader as "inept" and his White House as "uniquely dysfunctional."&nbsp;

He had also said that Trump's presidency could "crash and burn" and "end in disgrace", according to a cache of secret cables and briefing notes sent back to Britain seen by the Mail on Sunday newspaper.

The cables' publication in the Mail on Sunday newspaper came just a month after Trump enjoyed a state visit to Britain that included a 41-gun salute welcome at Buckingham Palace and a banquet dinner with the queen.

The incident threatens to complicate London's efforts to strike a new trade agreement with key ally the United States, in hope of mitigating potential damage from Britain's withdrawal from the European Union.
