The American then broke down and said that his team invested a lot of time in him. "My team invested a lot of time in me. I wanted to be able to pay them back with a beautiful performance," Spann said as tears rolled down his eyes.&nbsp;

Officials from the UFC announced the cancellation of the light-heavyweight bout at the start of the main card of UFC Vegas 70. According to a report by ESPN MMA on Sunday, UFC officials said that Krylov fell sick on Saturday but still went to the UFC Apex in the hope to compete. He tried to work with the medical team. However, physicians rendered the Ukrainian unable to compete and he was pulled out from the fight.&nbsp;

The report added that Ryan Spann was not alerted about the news until the last hours. This is the second time in three months that a main event in the UFC got cancelled. On November 19 last year, heavyweight fighter Derrick Lewis was forced to withdraw against Sergey Spivak on the day because of illness.

The middleweight bout between Brendan Allen (United States) and Andre Muniz (Brazil) became the main event of UFC Vegas 70 with the American winning the fight by submission. The heavyweight bout between Augusto Sakai (Brazil) and Don’Tale Mayes (United States) became the co-main event, and Sakai won the fight by unanimous decision- (30-27, 30-27, 30-27).&nbsp;

Dana White, President of UFC, told a sports channel that it would host four events on UAE's "Fight Island".&nbsp;

UFC had to cancel six events in March, April and May due to the coronavirus pandemic.&nbsp;

It has been taking place behind closed doors in Florida and Las Vegas with no fans in attendance at the UFC Apex amid social distancing measures to prevent the spread of COVID-19 in the US.

The new fights are due to take place on &nbsp;July 11, 15, 18 and 25 in "safety zones" for athletes and coaches, White announced.

White said "we're the only ones that are pulling off live sports right now. And if I continue to do fights in the United States, I'm gonna burn out all my American talent," while adding, "So now we've got Yas Island ready to go; it's set up."

White said fighters will train on the beach.

Former two-weight UFC champion Conor McGregor has announced on Twitter that he is retiring from the sport for the third time, citing a lack of exciting options as the reason behind his decision to quit.

“Hey guys I’ve decided to retire from fighting. Thank you all for the amazing memories! What a ride it’s been!” the 31-year-old Irishman said, adding a picture of him and his mother and promising to buy her a dream home.

“The game just does not excite me, and that’s that,” McGregor told ESPN on Sunday.

“All this waiting around. There’s nothing happening. I’m going through opponent options, and there’s nothing really there at the minute. There’s nothing that’s exciting me.”

McGregor, who knocked out Donald Cerrone in 40 seconds on his return to the octagon back in January, had hoped to fight twice more in 2020, but the COVID-19 pandemic and a lack of interesting opponents seems to have put paid to that.

McGregor had been linked by the media to a number of fights, including a match-up against Brazilian great Anderson Silva, but the Irishman hinted that the UFC was not prepared to meet his price for such a bout.

“When the Anderson one came along, I was like, yeah, that’s a mad fight. And then everyone said he’s old and over the hill,” McGregor explained.

“I was like, what? Fighting a former light heavyweight and the middleweight GOAT (greatest of all time), and the actual GOAT in my eyes - that’s not a rewardable fight?”

UFC president Dana White, who has faced demands from other fighters including light-heavyweight icon Jon Jones and welterweight crowd-pleaser Jorge Masvidal to be paid more money for their fights, appeared to take McGregor’s retirement seriously.

“Nobody is pressuring anybody to fight. And if Conor McGregor feels he wants to retire, you know my feelings about retirement - you should absolutely do it,” he told a media conference following Saturday’s UFC 250 event in Las Vegas.

The former UFC featherweight and lightweight champion first quit the sport in April 2016. In March 2019, he again announced he was hanging up his gloves, but on both occasions the retirements were short-lived.

Once again, McGregor is leaving the door open for a return in the future.

“We’ll see what the future holds. But for right now, for the immediate future, 2020, all the best to it.”

Mixed martial arts star Khabib Nurmagomedov said Wednesday he would not take part in a UFC card scheduled for April 18, saying he was not prepared to travel amid the coronavirus pandemic.

Lightweight champion Nurmagomedov was due to have headlined the UFC 249 event in a bout against Tony Ferguson but said in a post on Instagram he was not willing to leave Russia for the fight.

"I understand everything and I'm definitely upset more than you to cancel the fight, probably like all others, I had many plans after the fight, but I can't control it all," Nurmagomedov wrote.

The Ultimate Fighting Championship has already postponed three events after officials were unable to find venues to stage bouts amid restrictions put in place to combat the COVID-19 pandemic.

The UFC had still not disclosed a venue for the Khabib-Ferguson fight, but president Dana White has spoken of his determination to organise the card.

Reports have said the fights were expected to go ahead without fans.

White said in an interview last week he wanted the fight to go ahead to try and restore "some normalcy" to US sport, which has been locked down since the coronavirus pandemic erupted.

"I'm gonna try to pull off Tony vs. Khabib on April 18 and try to get some normalcy back into this country," White said.

"I have four or five locations right now. We're getting this deal done."
